Lost Heritage of Jethabhai ni Pol Landscape Studio 1 Design exercise A Pol can be termed as a self contained sociological unit. The activities and nature of the activities mark a change in the overall character of the space. Densification coupled with the out-migrations has led to vertical growth of houses and to a change in social structure of a pol; the latter has already been accelerated as a result of breaking of pol norms and adapting newer methods of construction leading to bigger house sizes. Changing lifestyle and family structure has given rise to in house modifications like renovation and re-use of spaces. Due to this a lot of variations can be observed in the way traditions and activities are carried out. The value of Pol is dependent on its experiential spaces, which are strongly dependent on energy cycle: thermal comfort – which governs all activities. It is these values that make the difference between the pols and the contemporary city. This project intends to preserve the lost heritage of the pol through some interventions: installations be in form of elements which were present in pol during the time of its formation but have been lost or changed. I have tried to enhance the experience of Jethabhai ni pol by bringing back the charm to the pol and improve the quality of life without changing the character of the place.
