Currently, organisations such as Oxfam and Unicef are making an effort to fix all the issues in one foul swoop: lack of education, pollution, birth control availability, spreading of disease and more. Recently Oxfam and Unicef have focused their energies on alleviating diseases such as the Zika virus and Malaria in developing countries and at the same time trying to provide adequate shelter and warmth for these same places. This is impossible to do. We need to focus on one issue at a time, solve that, then move on. Otherwise, we will get nowhere, just as we are doing now. Not enough funding, resources and time are available to fix everything at once. By focusing all our energy on one solution, we allow ourselves to move quicker and more efficiently. Just as the WHO is doing, providing birth control for those countries in need and UNESCO is doing, providing education to the developing world. Globally increasing numbers in lower secondary education by 27% and more than doubling numbers in sub–Saharan Africa. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, satire can be found in the actions of one character named Piggy. Piggy is the boy that is the nerd or intellectual of the group. Piggy represents the intellectuals that created that atomic bomb in WWII. Golding was strongly opposed to the atomic bomb hence the satire in his novel. The first example of satire is found in chapter two .The boys are trying to start a fire and they are all gathering wood except for Piggy. Instead of helping Piggy, ". . . just sat." (Golding 39) and watched everyone else do the work. This is an example of Horatian satire. Golding doesn't outright say that he is making fun of the intellects, it is subtle. The next piece of satire is in chapter eight. An assembly has been called and the decision of moving the fire onto the beach has been made. Piggy was the one who suggested this, and because he was so proud of himself, he helped fetch wood (118). Even though he helped, the wood was close at hand so he didn't have to exert himself too much. This is also an example of Horatian satire because Golding is implying that the intellects don't actually do that much work, they tend to just boss people around unless they want to do a good deed every once in awhile. Space exploration provides the ability for humans to gain more knowledge about space and the phenomena that occur in the solar system and the universe. When determining the ability to have frequent space exploration, it is necessary to consider the effects to the health of people and the ability to fund the planned endeavors for space travel.
Ethical concerns, especially those relating to health, are a big topic of the future effects from the desired increase of space exploration. The conditions of space itself is not the only concern, especially because the ability to have back contamination in people returning from space. Richard Greenberg is concerned with the possibility that extraterrestrial life exists and the chance that humans can receive germs from space, or even cause an infection in alien ecosystems. Even though the aliens are still not proven to exist, proper measures must be taken to be sure that humans do not get infected or infect any other species to ensure that there are no major negative effects from the increased space travel. I think I speak for many people when I say that I can’t wait for the day when it finally warms up around here. While being an Oregon resident has it’s advantages, it just seems to lack in the sunshine department, and what a better way to brighten up any day than with 200 degree weather. No more wasting snow days at school, no more long sleeved shirts, and finally an end to all that SPF mumbo jumbo. You know that without an O–zone layer there’s going to be nothing strong enough on the market to protect our delicate skin. They’ll probably have some kind of pill I can take instead. I'm tired of people saying there scared, really! Am I the only person that could see through all the lies, scams, media hype, and fake articles mixed in with real information? We used Facebook of all places for our informational sources for our candidates instead of doing real research double checking, triple checking our resources. Finding articles on Facebook and reading the first few sentences which looked OK and then we post it not really checking the validity of the source. My appreciation for the ones who did their homework. Many of the media got it right by pissing us off so we can vote by our feelings and not by the big picture! The spoils of this political war were about one thing who will inject/appoint Supreme Court judges to be like minded and support our constitution and not quickly reset things to today's radical beliefs to say the least. The aim of any true satirical work is to poke fun at a certain aspect of society, while also inspiring reform to that very same aspect in one way or another. In Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Chaucer satirizes the Medieval Church and those associated with the church. Medieval society was centered largely around the Church. Ideally, the people were expected to understand that earthly possessions were meaningless when compared to the prospect of closeness with God. Man was expected to work until he died, at which time he would receive eternal salvation. This eternal salvation was achieved by obeying God's commandments. One example is how the Church preaches a solemn vow of chastity. Nevertheless, Chaucer tells of how the Friar had "fixed up many a marriage, giving each/ Of his young women what he could afford her." Therefore, the Friar would find husbands for the women that he had previously seduced but then lost interest in. Another aspect of the Church that these "holy–men" prove inconsistent is the vow of simple living. The Monk lives a rather lavish lifestyle, as Chaucer tells, "The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore;/ He let go by the things of yesterday/ And took the modern world's more spacious way." The monk enjoyed the comforts of good living, with fur–lined clothing, a fine horse, and first class meals. Likewise, the Friar enjoyed fine clothing, as Chaucer says, "Not then appearing as your cloistered scholar/ With threadbare habit hardly worth a dollar,/ But much more like a Doctor or a Pope." These elegant lifestyles are clearly in opposition to the teachings of the Church on simplistic living. Finally, the Pardoner preaches on behalf of the Church against greed and avarice, however he is very greedy himself.
