CITY TREES
There are approximately 25,000 city trees in Trenton. We work hard to maintain them and are proud that we have been designated as a Tree City USA city for the past 34 years. When a city tree is removed from your residence you may have the option to purchase a new one. Call our office to be put on the list if interested. There is a nominal fee which partially covers the cost of the tree. New trees are planted in the late fall.
LEAF COLLECTION
Curbside leaf collection runs from mid-October until mid-December, depending on the weather. We will have collection schedules posted at trentonmi.org and at all city buildings when the time comes. Every effort is made to follow the schedule, but weather conditions and equipment failures may alter it. Rake leaves into street for pick-up, leaving catch basins uncovered.
ONLY LEAVES ARE TO BE PLACED IN THE STREETNO BRANCHES OR OTHER YARD WASTE.
Please keep vehicles off the roads during your collection times. Leaves may also be placed in your yard waste cart or taken to the Transfer Station at no charge.
SNOW REMOVAL
A snow emergency is in effect when a snowfall exceeds four inches. It is unlawful to have any trailer or vehicle on ANY public street prior to removal of snow by City plowing of public streets. The Trenton Police Department may ticket the owner of any vehicle left on the street. In addition, the vehicles may be removed from the street with the owner liable for towing and storage charges. Further, it is against State Statute 257.677a to plow, blow, or deposit snow from driveways and sidewalks into a public street. Cooperation by the residents will assure more effective and efficient snow removal and assure public safety.
STORM DRAINAGE
Please help minimize the possibility of street flooding by keeping any catch basin (drains) adjacent to your residence clear of debris. When it is raining during leaf season, help the City and yourself by creating a onefoot space between the curb line and your leaf pile, allowing water to flow to the nearest drain.
SEWER CLEANING
The City of Trenton routinely cleans and inspects our sewer mains to improve sewer performance and significantly reduce the chance of future back-ups and related problems. The sanitary sewer lines are cleaned using high performance sewer cleaning equipment. A cleaning nozzle is propelled from one manhole to the next using water under high pressure. The nozzle is then pulled back to the starting manhole. As the nozzle is pulled back, water scours the inside of the sewer pipe. Any debris in the pipe is pulled back with the water and vacuumed out. If roots are found, they are then cut with a root cutter. This cleaning process causes a vacuum in the sewer. This will not affect most homes but may cause the traps under your basement drains to be sucked dry. Should you notice a sewer odor from this, pour some water down your floor drains to fill the traps back up.
