welcome DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE It was a pleasure to not only serve you this summer but more importantly seeing your smiling faces! It has been a great summer for Recreation starting off with IslandFest in June, Kid’s Schools out Swim Party, Daddy Daughter Dance, Movies at the Pool, Christmas in July, Summer Concert Series, Junior Golf, Summer Camp and Youth Swim Lessons just to name a few. Our fitness programs also had great participation including our popular Water Exercise Program averaging 25 participants! Our Resident Seniors have begun to participate in our program offerings as well. The Senior Happy Hours were well attended filled with senior activities, along with our active transportation program that has kept our new driver Joy, very busy with getting our seniors to their doctors’ appointments, shopping and other errands that our seniors need. Welcome Joy! I also want to thank long time Grosse Ile Resident, Scott Rhind who volunteers his time to the Meals on Wheels Program, delivering meals to our seniors in need. To mention some of our other community programs that had fantastic attendance were: Pre School Sports Camp, Walkover Wednesdays, Art Camp, Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer Camps. Tennis classes were a bit hit too. Our Junior Golf and Little Chippers programs were led by Michael Moco, a Grosse Ile Resident and avid golfer I must say! I would like to welcome our 3 new Community Recreation Commissioners, Keith Fusinski, Stacy Damman, and Marisa Nicely who will round out the CRC lead by Chairman, Chad Novak, Wendy Kearney, Kyle Alexander de Beausset, Ethel Yops and Township Board Liaison, David Nadeau, I look forward to working with all of you. I also want to thank all my staff, community groups and volunteers that help make Grosse Ile Recreation the place to be. As summer winds down and we head into fall I’m pleased to announce we will be continuing our programs, and venues to serve our community. Let’s continue to work together, stay healthy, courteous to each other and keep an open mind. I am proud to be a resident of this great community. Respectfully,
Kim Kim O’Farrell, CPRP | Grosse Ile Recreation Director | kofarrell@grosseile.com

Tennis After School
Ready to master your walkovers and back handspring? Join us for a 6-week, intensive but fun, tumbling clinic. Leave feeling confident and ready for your next level of gymnastics or cheer!
We would like to introduce the game of tennis. The goal for participants is to learn as a team, while growing their individual tennis and physical skills. As with many other sports for these age groups, scaled down tennis is designed for their physical size and capabilities. The changes in court size, net height, racquet length, balls and scoring will help kids develop better technical, tactical and physical skills, and when each of these elements are used collaboratively, kids will achieve success more quickly. This is part of the USTA quick start kids format. Come have fun while learning a great game!
