The City recently hired three new full time firefighter/paramedics. We are so proud to be able to provide our residents with increasing safety. We have two fire stations open with enough personnel to provide our residents with decreased response time and increased manpower. In the last several years we have purchased a new ambulance along with two fire trucks. As our police officers retire we are replacing them. Our residents safety is my utmost concern. Although the summer is winding down we look forward to so many great city events such as Hallohaven, the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony with fireworks and Supper with Santa. Our recreation department works hard to bring such memorable events and times to our families.
ing and socializing there with their families and friends. It looks like the splash pad is a huge hit with everyone along with the all inclusive playscape. What I noticed more this year is that the pickleball courts whether early morning or late afternoon were always busy. In conjunction with our Downtown Development Association we will be installing new pickleball courts in place of the old ones. We will now have six courts instead of two. I am told that it is the fasting growing sport in the U.S. and by the turnout I can see that that is true!
If you are 62 or older please consider joining The Woodhaven Senior Club. They go on trips, out to lunch with the lunch bunch, and have luncheons and ice cream socials at the Community Center. They enjoy playing cards and bingo. Many are active playing pickleball and bocce ball.
The City strives to make sure that people of all ages from children to seniors are enjoying the community that they call home. In regard to the grade separation (the underpass) on Allen Road it is in the hands of Wayne County and we are being told that it is going out to bid.
Please don't forget to vote on November 8th! My Best Always, Mayor Patty Odette DC

Continue the family and community tradition by joining together to celebrate the start of the holiday season. The evening begins at 6:30 pm with the annual parade led by the Woodhaven Marching Band from the Fire Station to the community center. Activities include a reindeer display, ice sculpture exhibit, children’s crafts, musical performances featuring the high school choir, and the Woodhaven Senior Citizen’s Club’s “Famous Bake Sale”. In 2016, the WBSD partnered with Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD) to offer an Early/Middle College (EMC) program.ECM is a blend of high school and college courses leading to a tuition-free associate degree while still in high school. We are proud to announce that one student has successfully earned EMT certification and at the end of the 201920 school year, 26 students will have successfully earned their high school diploma as well as an associate degree. We are proud to report that, to date, the WBSD program is WCCCD’s largest EMC program. Our students are taking full advantage of this unique opportunity, and the EMC program is one of the district’s greatest successes. In the ninth and 10th grades, students take both district and college courses at the same time, with the latter taught by college staff at PH Middle School and WHS. In 11th and 12th grades, students take courses at WHS and on the college’s Taylor campus. The student would finish up his or her college degree courses the first year out of high school and then receive both a high school diploma and an associate degree. In addition to the free tuition, the district provides books, fees and supplies to all students. If accepted into the program students and their parents will attend an orientation prior to actually joining the program. To learn more, contact Curriculum Director Stacy Vespremi at: 734-789-2349
