at Project Arts Centre try to nurture and enliven. As an organisation that works with many different types of artists – visual, dance, performance, music – we also stage our exhibitions and events in three very different spaces (two of the them black, one of them white), spaces that inevitably embody various modes of engagement, politics of staging, and implied meaning behind conventions of display. In the visual arts we try to disrupt conventions and thus undermine the more hierarchical connotations of the white cube (or indeed museum rarefication) where we can. To disrupt or destabilize can mean to reverse, to exaggerate or to

Dominik Lang

Gallery 7 February – 14 April 11am – 8pm Admission Free
An exhibition of newly commissioned work, and an exciting first time collaboration between Czech artists Eva Kot’átková and Dominik Lang. Both artists are stimulated by observations and histories of institutional activity – be they institutions of education, psychiatry, or art. Kot’átková and Lang’s new installation brings together the mutually hospitable threads in their practices, and has built onsite, following an intensive IMMA Production Residency, a fragmented collage of an urban park in transit. With warm thanks to the Irish Museum of Modern Art and gallery Hunt Kastner in Prague for supporting this unique and artistically groundbreaking exhibition between two celebrated contemporary artists.

VISUAL ARTS WORKERS FORUM 2014
www.projectartscentre.ie
9 May 10.30am – 5.30pm
Project Arts Centre is proud to present the 3rd conference of the Visual Arts Workers Forum. Designed to engage and give a platform for debate for workers across the visual arts – artists, writers, curators, educators, funders, gallerists, shippers, framers to name a few – the VAWF is a day packed full of stimulating debate, presentations and networking. Key issues for the 2014 forum include a session devoted to the case for artistic leadership, a session aimed at accounting for the visual arts’ contribution – artistically, structurally and economically – and a session devoted to supporting good governance. The forum is ticketed, including lunch, and booking in advance is essential.

Barbara Bloom
THE FRENCH DIPLOMAT’S OFFICE
www.projectartscentre.ie
Gallery 9 May – 29 June 11am – 8pm Admission Free
The French Diplomat’s Office is a site-specific installation of a key work by this significant American artist, and the first time Barbara Bloom has shown in Ireland. The French Diplomat’s Office is an exploration of painting, set-design, décor, narrative and – in this installation designed specifically for Project Arts Centre – theatre. Barbara Bloom is an artist known for her literary allusions, the resurrection or reinterpretation of found and treasured objects, and what the artist calls ‘visual innuendo’, infusing the stories and scenarios we can know and imagine to inhabit objects, artefacts and artworks. You are welcome to join us and the artist for the opening of this exhibition on Thursday, 8 May from 6 – 8pm.
Coffee like no other Coffee of the highest order, coffee that delights: this is illy’s mission, passion and obsession. A simple idea created through complex means: eight decades of experience; unmatched knowledge of coffee biology and chemistry; unrivalled skill at roasting; the pioneering of innovative, enabling technologies; and a family’s entrepreneurial passion. There is a taste, a feel, an aroma that is all illy’s own. Velvety, immediately sweet, delicately balancing floral and fruity notes with caramel, toast and chocolate, naturally fragrant with aromas of almond and honey. You just might hold the sugar, for the very first time. This is balance that comes only from a blend: the singular illy blend of nine highest-order Arabica beans, selected and directly purchased by illy from farms spanning four continents. Each individual bean contributing to a greater whole, for the pleasure of those who appreciate all that coffee can and should be. In the cup, the illy blend becomes a symphony: rich, full, multi-faceted, yet subtle, comprised of immensely talented soloists, each coaxed to their finest performance under the hand of an expert conductor. Food Solutions are the Irish distributors of illy. www.coffee-ireland.com
