“When everything is over, when the worst has happened, there's still one thing left in Pandora's Box: hope."Suffering and pain are part of every person’s life. We all experience setbacks and difficult situations but as the world grows darker, we find ourselves thinking about one thing, hope. Watching the world and the people around us, we can detect the great amount of anxiety present, which invites us to ask ourselves the following questions. Is hope an illusion, a mere trick of the eye or rather is it a necessity that we, as humans, need in order to live? With all the violence and grief found in our society, how is it possible to be hopeful?
Hope is defined as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen” and is a word commonly spoken. “I hope everything turns out well” or “I hope it doesn’t rain today.” But what exactly is hope? Hope is ordinarily associated with faith, as it should be. In the Bible it is stated “We can have hope in life no matter what surrounds us, because we serve a mighty God who cares, knows us by name.” (Isaiah 45:3)For Christians, hope is more than a wish or desire; it is the promise of God in His word.
Man needs hope to live and therefore it must be shared. The value of hope spreads through the manifestation of love and faith. The hope born in us and made us feel a sense of redemption, we don’t only keep to ourselves. Hope must reach many. It must reach everybody. We can extend or hand on hope by serving others, especially those in need.
For Christians, hope is shared when despite all difficulties; they do not fear the future because they know of God’s plan. All of our small earthly hopes are geared to a bigger hope, which is perfect happiness.
Hope is the beginning of every good thing in our lives and the ending of every bad. Infused with hope, we are motivated to put our plans into actions, which leads us to success. Also, even in the face of worst circumstances, we survive because we remain hopeful whether the hope comes from within ourselves or from the love of others. Whether following dreams or enduring struggle and hardships, one thing is certain, man needs hope.
