Sister Gardens

Activities •

How to amend a bed and understanding soil

How to plant seeds

Appropriate timing for different crops

Understanding irrigation

Auxilary Activies •

We also set up a watering schedule with four different residents so that they would be responsible for overhead watering. This worked out well and gave residents greater responsibility of garden. A lesson I learned from this was that it is very important to have a clear schedule and clear responsibilities laid out and understood with residents so that there is no friction created between them. While we all came up with and agreed on schedule, consistently monitoring and checking on that was important.

Off-Site Visit •

We also made a visit to my farm at Sister Gardens.

Activities •

How to fertilize

Care for tomato plants which included trellising and pruning.

How to identify seeds coming up and how to thin seeds

Deadheading of plants that are coming up

The importance of companion planting and how symbiotic relationships work

This month was a fun month as crops started to produce. We also started to be able to draw in more residents and have conversations with them about the garden.
