t is fall and as we can see the weather is beginning to change. In order to adapt with the season we must change the cloths that we wear in order to keep cool or stay warm. This is how we are spiritually, this can be a good or a bad thing depending on the situation. The good thing is as we go through things in our lives, as our spiritual level shifts, we grow in it and it makes us stronger to where we are being matured.

The bad thing is some of you never shift in order to adapt and receive what is occurring in your life. Some are still stuck in a season of hurt or having a hard time of letting go/forgiving when you should be moving forward and looking at your experience as a lesson learned. I challenge you to shift and move with the season. When God moves you should be right behind Him, not in front of Him but behind him because He is the one that has cleared the path for you. Just as fast as fall has returned so will winter. Don’t get stuck in between seasons but move with it. There will be times where you will be in the wilderness; there are times when things will seem so still and peaceful. And there are times when it feels as though everything around you is falling. Never stay in one place to long. Adapt and then when the time has come to move, you must move and adapt to the next level. And once you’ve adapted, when God says move then move. The seasons never extend themselves longer than the 3 months they are supposed to be around. No matter how the weather may feel the season still changes. No matter what your situation may be, learn from it and move forward just like the seasons. With all things, trust in God. Pray and seek wisdom and knowledge so that you will be on the schedule God has for you‌

Some ladies love cute shoes! They believe that seven inch stilettos can take their perfectly color coordinated outfit to a state of near perfection. The visual appeal of the shoes outweighs all issues of practicality. When wearing these shoes there are usually no problems as long as they are just walking from a car to a restaurant table and back. However, the problems begin when it's time to hit the dance floor or when the car breaks down and it's two miles to the nearest gas station. Only then does the fact that the shoes have no practicality become evident. While some shoes lack any practicality apart from visual appeal, other shoes serve a purpose. However, different shoes serve different purposes. Tennis shoes are good for playing tennis. Soccer cleats are good for maintaining balance, speed and grip on a grassy field. Basketball shoes allow for stability and speed on the basketball court. Due to the fact that I was constantly Army boots protect the feet, keep them worried about slipping, I had to move warm in adverse climates, and allow for slowly which inhibited my ability to balance and reliability on various types of play at my best. If I we're going to terrain. Different shoes serve different dance ballet I would not want to be purposes and we have to make sure that wearing army boots. I have not tried we are wearing the right shoe for the job. this, but it's certainly a funny mental picture. For something that requires If I am going to play soccer on a wet such grace and poise, heavy clunky field, I want to be wearing cleats. If I am army boots could not possibly yield wearing basketball shoes I am going to anything good. have problems. I've actually tried this. It happened; I slipped and fell several times The idea is that we need the right shoes because my shoes were not designed to be for the job. No one wants to hike 50 effective on wet grass. miles over a sheet of ice while wearing roller skates.

14

No one goes out to fight a war in stilettos. When our feet are suffering from a bad situation it can basically throw off everything else. This is why we must make sure that our feet are protected and outfitted with the right shoes for the job. There is a perpetual war between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light, and if we are Christian then we are soldiers in kingdom of light. We are enemies of the kingdom of darkness and the devil wants to destroy us. Therefore, in order to stand against the devil and his inevitable attacks we should put on the armor of God daily as described in Ephesians 6:13-18. One of the elements of the armor God involves having our feet outfitted with the "preparation of the gospel of peace". This is the right shoe for the job of spiritual warfare. What we do not want is to have our feet shod with pride, anger, bitterness, resentment, hatred, alcoholism, envy, and other negative characteristics. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Christians who are moving upon these faulty foundations. They are stepping out with the wrong shoes for the job and both they and those around them suffer as a result. There are times when my wife wears the wrong shoes for the occasion. Sure she looks as cute as can be, but her feet are not properly outfitted for the strain that will be put upon them.

As a result, they begin to hurt her. As her wonderful and loving husband, it never works out that her terrible situation stays her terrible situation. Somehow I always end up sharing the grief. I will end up carrying most of her weight on my arm or even carrying her altogether. At the end of the day, her shoes have a negative impact on both of us. When we wear the wrong shoes for the job, those around us will suffer too. Why do we wear the shoes of the preparation of the gospel of peace? This means we are prepared with the good news that in Christ we have both peace with God (Romans 5:1) and the peace of God (Philippians 4:7). Living according to this fact is God's plan for our lives. This brings peace to our homes, to our workplaces, and to our relationships. When the enemy attacks either our identity in Christ or our situation in the natural, we are prepared to stay in a place of peace and clarity. If you have been stressed out and worrying about more things than you have energy for, some different shoes might be in your best interest. By: Daniel Duval

Welcome to “Chef Buzz”, a column where Promoting Purpose features Chefs that are all about Healthy yet tasty eating. Our back up scripture for this column is 1 Corinthians 10:31, so whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, let it all be for the glory of God. This month in our Chef Buzz corner is Chef Connie Johnson!

Promoting Purpose: Hello Chef Connie thank you so much for taking the time out allowing us to interview you during your busy schedule! Please tell us a little about yourself. Chef Connie: My name is Connie Johnson and I am the proud mother of five children, including my late daughter who died at the age of 17. I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland, a graduate of Howard University and a former record industry executive in New York. The different educational career experiences have allowed me to live in several exciting cities. The ever evolving and high-paced environments that come along with a career in culinary arts have taught me many things in life. However, it was the sudden death of my then 17 year old daughter that taught me that the single most important experience that I was missing the most was my walk with God. After reading my daughter’s diary months after her demise, I discovered that through divine intervention she knew her days were numbered and it was her quote that said," Dear GOD, Please touch my mom in a way that she knows who you are and that she walks in my footsteps in the journey to GOD when I am gone." She joined our family church the day before that insert into her diary. It was then that I became saved and answered the calling to become a Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church, and a Chef dedicated to helping others live healthy lives by creating healthy meals.

16

Promoting Purpose: Why is it so important for us to begin eating healthy? Chef Connie: It is important to eat healthy in order for the body to build and maintain a healthy immune system to fight off contaminants and disease that is killing people. A healthy food choice gives the body the energy for work and an improved overall family life. Promoting Purpose: What healthy dish would you recommend for the Hot Summer? Chef Connie: My recommendation for a healthy meal in the summer is to eat sautĂŠed vegetables with grilled meats or fish, such as salmon. Use fresh garden herbs to season food instead of salt. Promoting Purpose: How does eating healthy tie in to our spiritual walk with God? Chef Connie: Eating healthy allows the body to engage in all of the obstacles of life such as the physical and emotional demands that we are faced with in achieving our home/work life balance. It is truly a form of discipline. Walking the walk with God and talking the talk with God requires the same amount of

discipline. Walking the walk with God and talking the talk with God requires the same amount of discipline. The parallel of discipline with what we put into our bodies physically (food) and spiritually (walk with God) exudes confidence in our overall outward spiritual connection to the world and how we take care of ourselves and our families. Eating healthy is not a trend; it is an integral part of our lifestyle, a presence that must be nurtured just like our spirits. Promoting Purpose: What is a safe portion amount of food to eat without overeating even if it is a healthy meal? Chef Connie: A healthy proportioned meal is derived at by first knowing the height, weight, age and gender. The basic food pyramid should include all five food groups; the portion is as follows: 1/2 plate should be veggies and fruit with 1/4 of your plate comprised of a protein and the last 1/4 of your plate should be carbohydrates and a cup full of dairy. Promoting Purpose: What’s next for Chef Connie?

Recipe for Grilled Chicken and Vegetables in a Whole Wheat Pita with Garlic Mayonnaise Ingredients:

Chef Connie: We are currently in the developmental stages of a reality show about healthy eating and exercise. It’s my belief that we are at a crossroad in this country (in terms of health), so I thought it would be fitting to take my philosophy of “no salt” to the airwaves and share a variety of ways one can prepare healthy meals and snacks for their family. I have a team that supports me and with our combined efforts, we will make a difference in the lives of children around the world. I am going to be appearing on several national platforms in the coming months, to include the 2013 DC International Wine and Food festival in February. Promoting Purpose: Chef Connie we want to thank you for allowing us to feature you for this month. We also want to thank you for leaving us with one of your healthy recipes. It looks delicious and I’m sure the staff will be giving it a try. Blessings!

M

ost people deal with marriage similarly to the structure of our healthcare system. Insurers frown on many of the preventative measures available but they will authorize most medication, doctor visits, hospitalizations and treatment. Wouldn't it be easier to get regular checkups, eat well, exercise, maintain a healthy weight and take supplements than end up on life support for an avoidable illness or condition? The same holds true in marriage. People get engaged and much attention to detail goes into the colors, location, rehearsal dinner, ceremony and honeymoon. What about the relationship that follows? You know the one that you hear loosely referred to as a "marriage." What are the preventatives? Are there wellness checks in place? Have you established a healthy diet for prayer/devotional time? What is your supplemental support system for issues where impasse is reached? When I received this assignment, I just knew God couldn’t be serious. You see, I have been in just about every recognized familial status there is.

Single, married, separated, divorced and remarried which created a blended family. Given that, I guess I have a few experiences that God can use but marriage has been challenging for me. I have questioned whether I chose Mr. Right. I have been hurt on numerous occasions and felt alone. I have been frustrated more times than not. I have watched the enemy REPEATEDLY come to rob, kill and destroy my family. Instead of walking with God, I tried to handle it; which you can probably concur is never a good thing. God left simple instructions in His Word but in our technologically-advanced minds, we can't help but cut and paste, even in areas where we don't own the right to edit. We didn't create anything in six days. Yet, we take the relationship that is most precious to God (outside of our relationship with Him) and when we finish, it looks nothing like He intended.

20

What's worse is our rationalization of the why of it all. I am sure you are familiar with some of the excuses. "My parents divorced when I was young." "I have never seen healthy marriages so I am doing my best." "My family is dysfunctional." "He or she hurt me." And my personal favorite, "I don't know how to handle this because I have never been in a situation like this before." Give me a break! Let's be honest with what's going on here. God gave us an arrangement meant to model His love of the church to the world and our mockery of it has caused those looking on the outside to prefer just about any alternative because they don't see it working. Today, I praise God because I finally have enough wisdom to seek Him for direction in maneuvering through the deeper issues in relationships. I rely on Him to comfort and give me peace, especially at times of unrest. Because of what He has stirred in me, I am able to be silent more than lash out; pray instead of cry; and most importantly, stay classy instead of get trashy. When I stand before Him, I am responsible for me. What did I do? What did I say? Did I pray? Did I stay? Did I die to self and do it His way? I want to be able to answer these questions in a manner pleasing to Him. What about you? Do you have a foundation in place upon which you are building your relationship? Do you have preventative measures in place to keep the enemy from destroying your marriage? Finally, if you had to stand before God today, would He be pleased with your contribution to your relationships? If you answered “no to any of these questions, there is work to do, no co-pay required. 21

I

t is not enough for the man or

woman to attend church services, anyone can do that. But this individual must have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, a worshiper in spirit and in truth. Your religious beliefs and convictions should be the same, i.e. one can’t believe that Jesus is the son of God and the other believer that Jesus was just a Prophet. Be sure that your church affiliation is the same. Individuals often find themselves in a quandary when trying to decide on church membership which can cause a strain on the relationship. *Ask questions!

Dr. Matthis: Key points to remember when considering involvement in a courtship for marriage: *Be sure that you are equally yoked – in your relationship with Christ, your religious beliefs, church affiliation.

One often makes the mistake of thinking that everything will work out or fall into place simply because “We are in Love.” Most people find out intricate details, unwanted habits, bad behaviors and the Jekyll and Hyde issues after engagement or marriage. Questions you may want to consider asking: If they have a God given vision for their lives What are their goals – 1yr, 3yrs, 5yrs? If they have a healthy relationship with their parent(s), siblings, relatives, or friends 22

If they have ever been engaged or married – if so, what caused the demise of the relationship? If they have children – if so, how many, ages, and if they are paying child support

Double date or date in groups – society, music, magazines, videos, and peers are just a few of the arena’s that are used to solicit fornication and loose behavior.

Credit score rate

Abstain from fornication – Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5 (NKJV) Fornication most often ends in unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, emotional roller coasters, disrespectful behavior, forms of abuse, and heartbreaks.

If they have a criminal record – if so, what crime did they commit or were accused of

Questions to consider asking: Family relationship history with parent(s), siblings and other relatives.

If they are an introvert (one who does not like crowds, likes being alone), or an extrovert (One who enjoys being around others) If they are employed – Company, position, full time, part time, length of time employed

Key points to remember when dating: While many teens (13-18) and younger adults (19-22) are not too concerned with church affiliation or a relationship with God, most have had some former experiences with church attendance by way of a family member or friend.

If they have any children – teen and young adult pregnancy statistics are high. If they have personal goals – 1yr, 3yrs.

Therefore, the key points to remember are: Be sure that you are equally yoked in your religious beliefs, and church affiliation.

It’s funny how whenever we look at old pictures i.e. from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s we laugh at the styles that were worn back then. We often say to ourselves “I can’t believe I wore my hair like that or wore those jumper jeans and thought it was cool.” Looking at what we used to wear during our past seems ridiculous and often embarrassing but it was on point during the time we were wearing it. At that time, society said it was alright to wear and that you would be cool if you wore it. Getting to the spiritual point of this article we often tell ourselves that we can wear whatever we want because God knows or looks on the heart not the appearance. This is very true but because we are among all sorts of energy and spirits we must understand that fashion and style is the way something is said, expressed, or a performance characterizing a particular person, group or era. (Free online dictionary). Focus on the part that says style is the way something is said or expressed. That means your heart may be feeling or stating one thing but your style/appearance can be giving off a whole different energy. It is important that if we are men and women of God our heart and appearance both give off the same energy which is decency, a person walking in excellence, etc. This in fact does not mean you have to go out and buy expensive clothes but to just ensure what you are wearing is a reflection of the work you are doing both spiritually and physically.

27

Another important fact to remember is we must understand what we are wearing and what it originated from. Do your homework and find out besides looking cute what in society am I agreeing to. For example we see a lot of people wearing a Mohawk. What did the Mohawk originated from and what was it worn for. According to history the Indians wore the Mohawk when they were preparing for battle. They would shave the side of their heads and only leave hair in the middle all the way to the nape part of the head. Why are you wearing the MoHawk style? And would you find the MoHawk style cute 10 years from now when society put it on the back burner for another trend? Most importantly what energy are you bringing around you with this style? It’s time we ask God to show us our own fashion or ways to dress according to the purpose or journey He has for us. This article in no way is trying to turn anyone against fashion. It is used to shed light on certain styles and the statements we as Men and Women are giving off while wearing them. Each month in this column we will express and explain what certain symbols in the fashion world expresses to determine if it aligns with our mission as Men and Women of God…

The old hymns seem to be forgotten. Oh, how time has changes through the years. This generation is so different from when I was a young teenager. Those old hymns spoke to my heart as a young girl, and as I get older, I can hardly remember the words. My, how time has changed things. People were under old time conviction back then. How we need to pray today for old time conviction, for our friends and family to get saved. The great hymns of old time passed should never be forgotten. People wrote those songs from their hearts; they saw love ones die in front of them. I can’t imagine seeing my family dying right in front of me and God speaking

By: Sherrell Valdezloqui 28

to my heart to write this amazing song. Their faith in God truly had to be strong. These people left a legacy, not just a memory. The hymns, “Just As I am” and “Softly and Tenderly”, where those songs people ran to the alter to get saved. You could feel the presence of the Lord. When you sang the hymn, “It is Well with My Soul”, boy, you could feel the Holy Ghost if things were well with your soul. You had to know the peace inside of your heart in order to be able to sing that song. I feel for the senior adults who have a hard time with today’s music. I want to say to you all, keep playing your cd’s of the hymns that you love so well. Play them during the week at home in your car, play them before you leave to go to church, stay prayed up, go to church expecting to get a blessing from the Lord. Today’s music will bless your heart if you really listen to the words. Worship and Praise the Lord. Go expecting something, and you will be blessed. Don’t let the devil rob you of your joy. Remember the devil is after your joy. Keep trusting God; keep singing the old hymns around your home and win this battle; you can do it. Yes, never forget the old hymns. Young people let the words speak to your heart. This is not about religion or tradition; it’s about the love we have for people and the Lord. The legacy the old Christians left behind is for us to enjoy and remember.

Yes, we sing some powerful songs now that are very anointed and bless many people young and old. God is real today, just as he was real hundreds of years ago. We serve an Awesome God today, yesterday, and forever. There are many, many powerful songs like, “The Old Rugged Cross”. I remember the song we would sing right before a revival started called, “Revive Us Again”. My husband loves to hear me sing this song. “Revive us Again; Fill each heart with thy love; May each soul be rekindled with fire from above.”Hallelujah! Thine the glory! Hallelujah! Amen! Hallelujah! Thine the glory! Revive us again. Keep a song in your heart, hold on to the old hymns but let God bless you with today’s music. Don’t let the devil rob you of your blessing. Whatever church you go to today let the words of the songs you sing speak to your heart down deep inside your soul, don’t let the devil win. Let God win because you’re stronger than you think. God Bless You All, as you make a joyful noise! By: Denise P. Ingram

There is a real anointing in the old hymns of long ago.

rophet Antoine M. Jasmine is

walking in his divine calling and office as a Prophet, a man after God’s own heart. He has been anointed and commissioned by God to “Rebuild the Old Waste Places” and to “Turn the Hearts of the Fathers to their children and the Hearts of the children to their Fathers”. God has given him the innate ability to Speak a Prophetic word with accuracy into your life that will cause you to be delivered, healed and thrust forward into your Destiny. A true Prophet to the Nations, born to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jasmine, Sr. of La Place, LA; a Prophet from the womb his mother knew that he would be different. The office of the Prophet has always resided with Prophet Jasmine since birth. Meticulously trained under the direction and leadership of his spiritual father Bishop Joseph B. Hargo , The Prophetic Connection Church Houston, TX. He graduated from Reserve Christian High School and went forth to attain his Bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science with emphasis in Business Administration. Upon completion he attended Bethel Bible College with emphasis in Old and New Testament Survey. The Pastoral Overseer and newly appointed Bishop of CHOICE International Family Outreach Worship

Center one church in 2 states La Place, LA, Dayton, OH and forthcoming third location in Atlanta, GA. With many lives healed and positively affected by AMJ Ministries the personal ministry of Prophet Jasmine; a few testimonies stick out. In the year of 2009 one of Prophet Jasmine’s leaders’ died in his service and through the prayers, healing oils and his connection with God the dead man began to breathe before the arrival of EMS.

30

Medical examination declared that this man stopped breathing for 20 minutes; Listen to the testimony and history in its entirety on YouTube@ AMJasmin.mp4 of the actual man who is yet alive today. God has also used Prophet Jasmine mightily when a local visitor came to one of Prophet Jasmine’s anointed services in La Place, LA after she had been diagnosed as being HIV Positive, through the direction of the voice of God Prophet Jasmine began to pray for her, he then instructed her to go back to the doctor and be re-tested. This woman came back with a testimony update that through the prophetic words and prayer of Prophet Jasmine she is no longer HIV Positive, the test results came back NEGATIVE and she yet lives today. Traveling has increased rapidly for this unorthodox Prophet with an overwhelming response from the areas of the Bahamas and other overseas vicinities. He hosts a life changing “Speak to the Winds” Prophetic Conference annually during the month of October. The conference has increased rapidly and attendees travel from various sates to partake in this annual event. Make plans to attend October 18-20, 2012 in La Place, LA all services are held 7:00pm nightly and Saturday October 20th at 12:00noon. The mandate over his life to Father Young men has brought about a life changing program “Men In Black”. Over 98% of the young men involved are former drug dealers, drug addicts, exoffenders and “baby daddies”.

His latest projects include his First book entitled, “How to Dominate the Prophetic Realms” released in August 2012. This prophetic tool will give you insight and clarity on how to strategically master the prophetic realms. This is a must have book for those walking in the prophetic or just to have as a resource or study tool. Also keep your eyes open for his 2nd book on “Fathering” set to release in 2013. Although Prophet Jasmine prophesies to men and women everywhere he is not out of touch with his practical side, laid back, reserve, very approachable and enjoys a good laugh. One scripture comes to mind after speaking with this humble servant James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he shall lift you up.” This certainly describes this humble Prophet behind AMJ Ministries, strategically set and concerned about all of God’s people. PPM: Please tell us a little about yourself? Prophet Antoine Jasmine: I currently am the Pastoral Overseer of Choice International Family Outreach Worship Center, one church in two states La Place, Louisiana and Dayton, Ohio and a third Atlanta, Georgia location is forthcoming. I am a entrepreneur and notable philanthropist throughout the city of La Place, LA the Founder of Choice International School of Music and Performing Arts, Anwar Publishing, Choice Entertainment Group and the CEO & Founder of Youth Wealth Empowerment just to name a few. I am also a member of the Business Network International (BNI), River Region Chamber Commerce and serve on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson United Faith-Based Collaborative. PPM: You seem to be doing several things for the youth across America, as a youth what were one of your aspirations and was it difficult or hard to achieve?

Prophet Antoine: One of my aspirations was to become a pianist, my parents were not musically inclined but they loved music. Growing up my parents did not have much money to send me to music lessons, but with the help of a local church that sponsored me I was able to obtain private music lessons. PPM: You have a program called the CHOICE International School of Music and Performing Arts, a non-profit music and performing arts program what is this geared towards?

32

Prophet Antoine: The school is geared toward providing leadership skills and performing arts training to disadvantaged youth. The program provides them with impeccable training in theory, performance and practical application utilizing principles of the church. These services are provided from highly skilled and trained teachers. The phenomenal impact from the school has allowed children to receive scholarships to attend Choice International School of Music and Performing Arts and offer other avenues towards higher education. PPM: Is it easy being a prophet? What do you find very hard to get the body of Christ to learn/understand? Prophet Antoine: Being a Prophet has its challenges, but speaking the mind of God supersedes those challenges. What the body of Christ fails to understand the most is after the prophetic word has gone forth there is a process involved or related to your future and the word that has been spoken. Individuals have to understand that the prophecy has to be worked. The challenge comes in with the level of thinking most people have. A higher consciousness needs to be set within the body of Christ and to know things don’t fall into your lap. Steps have to be taken and the initial step has to be made by that individual. PPM: What is the mission of your church and what do you find your ministry currently teaching more of? Prophet Antoine: The mission of Choice International is based upon Malachi 4: 6 “And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse”. There is a series of teachings that God has given me to assist our ministry with, it’s entitled “F.A.T, Faithful, Accountable & Teachable”.

If a person should stop by our Wednesday Night “Walk the Word” services I am always teaching a lesson as it pertains to “F.A.T”. This series of teachings does not only affect my local church, but ministries across the globe are being affected by members that are not willing to be Faithful, Accountable and Teachable. At Choice this series of teaching is giving the members the tools they need to implement a better life within the ministry and in their personal lives.

For almost my entire journey to losing 70lbs I’ve worked out consistently. Just an alarm clock set for 4:30am 6 days a week, DVDs, and a made up mind. That is until my recent broken toe injury! Now my fast pace has been traded for a very slow pace which has landed me in many conversations with people north of 80 years of age. Stories about replaced knees, hips, and shoulders are common during what used to be quick errands but I’m always open for the lesson of it all. One lady who stands out the most is Ms. Georgia. Ms. Georgia and I ended up in the same medical building. She had her walker and we both needed to take a break. Her son had unfortunately dropped her off at the wrong building and she needed to be 2 blocks south.

I offered to take her and she agreed. As we drove those 2 blocks Ms. Georgia shared with me how she really missed being independent and the ability to drive herself places when she wanted to go but that she realized there was a time to get off the road. She went on to say that you have to recognize when your time to drive has ended. Ms. Georgia was 86 years old and there's something about talking with people who have been privileged to meet the night of their life. Their conversation is more times than not full of life lessons. When I dropped Ms. Georgia off she moved her walker forward as I limped beside her to make sure she made it in the building. When we reached the elevator she looked up and said "when you get to be an old lady somebody is going to help you too but for now you just keep on driving". Life had slowed me down to see the lesson that our time to drive our best life is NOW and that we don’t have forever. Unlike Ms. Georgia my fast pace was going to return. God willing I would have another day with the ability to CHOOSE to walk and move at will.

35

My injury had made space for me to realize that driving when I want and where I want was a GIFT from God. What about you? What are YOU doing with your FREE WILL to MOVE and DRIVE? It’s an insult to our creator to allow our busy “to-do” list to get in front of our “to-live” for Christ list to maintain the temple of the Holy Spirit? Without the clarity of mind, body, and spirit that comes from good health we are not capable of ‘driving’ where God wants us to go. My wish for you is that you WAKE UP and DRIVE before the night of your life comes.....Because the time will come when our pace is slowed & we all have to get off the road. GOD HAS A PLAN! “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11 NIV-

The student had drawn a picture of a monster with a belt in his hand. The teacher told the student that he/she would have to do the assignment over because he/she didn’t follow instructions. The student’s reply was “You asked me to draw a picture of my father and I did,” and he/she walked out of the classroom.

Domestic Violence is a senseless epidemic that is increasing more and more each day. The abuser feels that if abuse happens behind closed doors then no one will know and this is far from the truth. A child sees his mother or father abused and the abused parent never leaves the home to escape the situation. The child looks at the whole situation in confusion because they do not understand why he or she is acting a certain way or why but the child knows that it is not right. Some children that are placed in these situations find it hard to focus on their education, homework or any daily tasks because their mind is stuck on the actual events they have witnessed in their own homes. I recall seeing a child in a classroom who was asked to draw a picture of their father for a Father’s Day project. At the end of the class, the teacher walked around to collect everyone’s drawings and she was appalled by one of the drawings.

Sometimes when a child is placed in these abusive homes and the abused parent doesn’t leave, the child grows into thinking that this is just a way of life. Often, once they are old enough to start having relationships with someone of the opposite sex, they sometimes tend to abuse their partners. We have to remember, that this is the environment they were raised in. Some may think that once a child that was raised in a home as such gets older that they should be able to know right from wrong. In certain cases that may be very well true but in some it’s not. If you are in an abusive relationship or you know of a child who is living in a home with domestic violence please save yourself or save that child by calling 1-800-799-SAFE. Christian business owners are no exception to this rule. Many business owners who give their time to their business, families and ministry often disconnect their business and worship life. Somewhere between building a business (which often has worldly customers) and living for Christ, a disconnect occurred and the drive to go get it is limited to certain areas of the believer’s life. There are a torrid of reasons as to why the disconnect came but it’s there and Christian business owners are losing their footing when it comes to operating a business and living for Christ. It’s time to go get it in all ospel powerhouses Mary Mary areas of life. recently released, Go Get it, an affirmation song that tells Take a moment to reevaluate all believers not only to believe in aspects of life. In order to continue on any journey, a traveler must rest and their prayers but to literally go get the recharge. That also applies to the blessings God has waiting for them. That is Christian business owner. The journey a powerful testament when one sits back of building a no personal life, meetings, and gives an honest thought about the clients – good and bad, and a host of importance of thinking and speaking other necessities and challenges. affirmations of success as well as going forth and making those things happen. As a For the Christian business owner the believer of Christ it is important to added challenge may include finding understand the power of getting, the power time to attend worship service or even to of doing but most importantly the power of pray. speaking.

38

Don’t judge because it does happen to those who don’t have a business. So the key is to take a day, yes a day, to turn off the phone, grab the Bible, a notepad and a quiet space to meditate on God’s promises. Before starting on this day, it’s important to seek God for peace, wisdom, understanding and clarity on some issues that may have arisen as well as some opportunities. Getting in tuned with God is a necessary step in getting the blessings of God. The goal is to get aligned with God’s vision and purpose. Stay in position until God says move despite the opportunities and challenges presented. This is hard for many Christians especially when the opportunities align with the believer’s desires or the challenges could hinder the believer’s business growth. It is important to remember that as God makes preparation for the next move or level, Satan works on creating distractions. When God releases blessings it’s known, on time and if it deals with a move forward … it’s effortless. That’s right, who God calls He qualifies. Satan can and will disguise distractions, pitfalls and other traps in pretty packages that look like blessings, like financial opportunities; clients who are willing to sign multi-dollar contracts and a host of other tricks. Instead, listen for God and stay in position until He says move. It’s easy to focus on the right now but waiting on God gives abundance that far outlasts and outweighs “right now” moments. The goal is to get in the habit of doing things in God’s time.

Have a conversation with God in real talk. Pray to the Father and confirm it or send it in the name of the son, Jesus. In other words when praying to God, don’t waste time calling Him all the names He is known by, just go to Him real with an open heart and mind open to pour out and then receive. Talk to Him as if He were a friend or confidant. No hidden truths, agendas or thoughts will happen because He already knows those things. Talk about the frustrations of having a business and maintaining the Christian journey. Be real. Speak those things that are desired, no matter how simple they seem. Don’t limit the time taken to talk to God because the key is to have an open and honest dialogue with Him. When the prayer is finished seal it with … In the Name of Jesus AMEN. The goal is to speak the blessings that God has waiting into existence. Yes He knows the thoughts of all but He also wants to talk to His children. Be thankful and cheerful for the blessings already received. God loves it when His children are cheerful and thankful even in their seasons of trials and tribulations. Owning a business surely creates both but even when all customers are unhappy, the money almost slows down to a stop and the business seems to not be growing … thank God anyhow, anyway and all the time. That does two things … it shows God the appreciation that’s possessed for being a business owner and it gives Satan one heck of a headache. Being thankful and cheerful is a testament

39

to the belief that God is God and He is still good regardless of the situation. So even when business is in the red and nothing seems to be changing, give God a hallelujah praise and do a victory dance because weeping may endure for the night but JOY comes in the morning. Don’t lose the joy of God. The goal is not to limit being thankful and cheerful when things are good. Being a Christian is a challenge and having a business as a Christian may add to the challenge but it’s a blessing. The businesses owned by Christians were spoken into existence from just a thought. They were gotten by the Believers who went forth to make it happen. And they are growing because of the blood, sweat and tears poured into making it grow. That’s the power of speaking, getting and doing. God does not bless what He doesn’t call. Challenges will always come regardless if a business is present in the Believer’s life or not. Oh, but when time is taken with God to talk with Him, thank Him, meditate on His promises and His word and trust Him enough to move when He says move, oh the blessings flow. Mary Mary is right – Go Get It but stay in position, conversation, meditation and appreciation of God!

It was February 13, 2005, at 12:30 AM and the last thing I remember saying is, “just let me die”. The next moment I was waking up on the psychiatric detention floor of the local hospital. I had been committed under a green warrant, a 72hour involuntary observation commitment for threaten bodily harm to society or myself. I was frightened by the unknown, scared by my surroundings, and for a short time, thought I had died and gone to hell. I was in a room with someone I didn’t know. My shoe strings were missing as well as my belt and glasses. Charcoal and the remains of my stomach’s content from earlier that morning soiled my clothes and my body. I ached like never before. How had I fallen so far in just a short period of time (a mere 15 hours)? Late Sunday afternoon I saw the first people I recognized as friendly faces. It was my wife Denise and her best friend Patricia, who probably came along for support, standing in the door way to my room. 40

They could not come into the room for security reasons, as well as patient confidentiality. Denise looked really troubled and very tired. The nurse let us use a conference room so we could talk. The first words out of my mouth were, “How did I get here and where is here?” She proceeded to tell me about the events of the last several hours: “You were frustrated and really tired and had gone to bed but could not get to sleep. So, you sat up on the edge of the bed and told me you were going to take an ‘Ambien’ so you could get to sleep. After nearly an hour of tossing and turning, as well as complaining, you got up and then came back to bed. I asked you what you had done. Your response was that you needed to get some sleep and had taken 8 more of the sleeping pills! Just a short time later you tried to get up and go into the bathroom, but you didn’t make it. You fell to the floor and I tried to help you up, but you were too heavy for me. This time you tried to catch yourself and you grabbed the post of the bed, but it broke and you were on the floor again. You looked up at me and said, “Kiss me good bye,” and started to laugh. I shouted at you, “This isn’t funny!” You answered with, “I will show you funny,” and started towards the kitchen. By the time I got into the kitchen you had taken a bottle of anti-depressants out of the cabinet, had the top off and were pouring them down your throat. I knocked the bottle out of your hand, but you had already taken them all, over 90 pills! I started to put my fingers into your mouth to get some of them out, but the good Lord stopped my hand for surely you would have bitten them off. All I could do now to help was to call 911.

The crew arrived along with the police. They got you under control and restrained you. It took all of them to get you onto the gurney and into the ambulance. The police said to follow them to the hospital and come to the emergency room. It was morning before I got to see you; finally they came and took me to your bed. There you were strapped into your bed with IV’s, oxygen and monitors; it reminded me of when I first saw you after your first open heart surgery. The doctor came in and told me about what had happened and that you should not have lived through this, but you had. He said that I really needed to go home and get some sleep and if anything happened they would call me. I could come back later on to see you and the nurse will tell me what I would have to do to get on the psychiatric unit…” 41

The nurse came in and interrupted and she told Denise and Patricia that it was time to go. Evening medications are ready to be passed out and no visitors could be on the floor. Denise gave me my bible and said good night. I was ashamed to take my bible, but I did anyway, extremely reluctant. I went back to my room because that was the only place I knew and I didn’t have any idea of what to do next. My roommate, I will call him George, was there sitting on his bed. He told me I had missed supper but he didn’t think I had a tray anyway. He said if I hurried to the nurse’s station I might be able to get a snack before meds because the day room was now closed. I told him I really didn’t feel much like eating. I said, “George this is all new to me. Tell me about the meds and how it works, I hate not knowing.” George said, “Well around 8:00 to 8:30 they will call us over the intercom to come down to the Medicine Room and get in line for our evening medications. Don’t pay any attention to the muscle; they are just there to keep the peace.” “What do you mean to keep the peace?” I asked.

“Most of the time things go pretty quietly but sometimes the women get agitated. Usually the younger female soldiers get to picking on the other women over stupid things like cigarettes, men, or change for the pay phones. This is just loud and involves some gestures, but sometimes it leads to the ‘cat fights’. When this happens the orderlies are slow to stop this and only when the nurses come out do they react. When all control is lost this means ‘lockdown’: into your rooms, close the doors, and sit on your beds and your doors will automatically lock themselves. When they restore the ‘peace’ your doors will open and we can try it again.” We were lucky that evening that nothing happened. George was in front of me and when he got to the window they asked to see his ID band then they gave him his meds and a little cup of water. He took them and drank the water then opened his mouth so they could see if he had swallowed them. After this he turned to me and said, “You’re next and if you are lucky you will get a sleeping pill as well as a happy pill.” And to end my first day as a “threat to society and myself”, I must have been lucky because about 30 minutes after receiving my meds, I could hardly keep my eyes open. 42

My name Is Gloria Jeffers. I was born in Gary Indiana on April 1st, 1975, to Gloria and Leroy Jeffers. I grew up with 3 brothers and an older sister. My mother told me on the night I was born it was a winter blizzard night. Growing up in my household was sad most of the time. My father often abused my mother in front of us and abused us as well. My father didn’t like me very much. For some reason my older brother and I was often his target of his abuse and because of that, I can remember having a closer connection with my older brother. My father would sometimes leave me alone. One time I was instructed to sit in the outside chair and watch the house but as a child what could I have done if someone was to intrude our home? There were no other kids outside and I was alone sitting in the chair. As the day progressed other children started to come out and play. We loved to play kick ball in the yard and I just wanted to play kickball and being in the chair for so long really bored me but when everyone had come back and my father didn’t see me sitting in the chair.

He took me inside of the house, scorned me, then picked up a bat from the corner and hit me over the head with it. I had white beads in my hair at the time so when he hit me in the middle of my head, one of my beads busted. I don’t remember crying I just remember the pain and can still feel what it was like today. Another time I could not say my grace correctly and we said grace before every meal but I never had to say it until that morning. I can remember my older brother trying to help me by whispering “the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob”. My father would teach us bible study outside sometimes and the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was a part of our prayer before grace but I could never remember the full grace word for word but I always wondered who was Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was and whoever they are they must be pretty important. My father became furious with me with my loss of memory at prayer time. That morning I had a beautiful robe on with the pink bows; one of the prettiest pieces of clothing I had at the time in my eyes. My father picked me up, threw me across the room right along with my pretty pink bows. 43

There wasn’t much love in my household. If there was, I never felt it. I didn’t understand why my father called me names and seemed disgusted with the sight of me. My mother told me that it was probably because I would see my father with other women and tell her. My mother would sometimes run away from home because of the abuse. One time my mother ran away. I was alone in the house with my mother one night (At that time we lived in a one bedroom, one bathroom duplex) my mother was in the bathroom in the mirror and I was sitting on the floor playing in the kitchen. I looked up at my mother with such curiosity and wondered why a woman so beautiful stayed with my father when he treated her so badly. I must have been 5 or 6 at the time but even at that age, I knew that my mother deserved a better life. I just wondered why she couldn’t see it. I also thought we were poor. We had food stamps and we didn’t dress the best. We lived in a one bedroom apartment with one bathroom. We slept on bunk beds. If we had money, it sure didn’t seem like it. My father had his own apartment upstairs. His apartment was nicer then our downstairs apartment. He had a fish tank with fish in it for goodness sake. I envied that place and wondered why we didn’t move upstairs. I guess that was his secret hide away from us.

My mother said my father never wanted a house. We also had a car but we never really drove the car. We were always on bikes. I had a short time living in the house with my father and I was glad. You see my father did drugs and sold them out of our house and was teaching my oldest brother (who was a teenager at the time) to sell out the house as well. One night we all were sitting in the house playing our video games when suddenly the windows began to shatter and an army of men with guns burst into our home. A man with a huge silver gun aimed it right at my father’s head and told him to freeze. We all went to jail that night and we sat in that jail cell a long time before being released to group homes and relatives. I can remember sitting in that police car thinking; “finally, someone is taking me away from this place”. .

From the title alone I’m sure some of you are thinking now its official, Sis. Rachel has lost her mind! I assure you brothers and sisters that I have not. Before getting into what the Lord has spoken into my spirit, I will define what a zombie is. A zombie is an offensive term for a person considered to lack energy, enthusiasm, or the ability to think independently; a dead body brought back to life again without a soul. Now let’s take a look into the word. Ezekiel 37:18(NKJV). “The hand of the LORD came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it [was] full of bones. Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, [there were] very many in the open valley; and indeed [they were] very dry. And He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" So I answered, "O Lord GOD, You know. 'Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: "Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.

I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I [am] the LORD. So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone. Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but [there was] no breath in them. Believe it or not these were zombies, people who were dead, had been put back together yet still weren’t alive because they had no breath in them. A few weeks ago the Lord showed me this in clear view right in the middle of service that many saints are going through the motions of religion but are actually dead because they lack the true spirit that causes them to live victoriously. When the Lord showed me this I was in much sorrow and cried bitterly knowing that when Christ died for us, he called us to liberty and not death. Endless rituals surely cause us to become dry and stale.

45

Think about it, we get up, get dressed, go “to church”, sing, perform, hear the word, say amen and then go home. Vast majority of saints repeat the same process week end and week out yet have very little change in their walk with the Lord. Ask yourself a question, if you stopped going through the motions of what many call “church” would you automatically deteriorate or would you remain alive and on fire for the Lord? If you know that would be headed to rapid decline then you have lost the ability to think independently and look for others to keep you alive. Many unfortunately look for the prophet, preacher, televangelist and even the singer to revive their souls and when that person or group of persons fails to deliver, some begin to question their walk with the Lord. This is a common trick of the enemy that you can’t get a “breakthrough” till the pastor or prophet speaks it over you. If we are in a dry place, only the Lord can breathe life into you again no matter how glamorous or appealing men make it to appear. In times like this we must be like David who encouraged himself and like Paul who thought himself happy. Now please don’t misunderstand me, the role of the apostles, pastors, prophets, teachers, and evangelists are vitally important with helping to grow and mature the saints but our survival should not be dependent on them alone.

Christ died on the cross and rose again so that we all can prosper and be in good health which means that I can go to him directly for my healing and restoration. God never designed for us to be spiritual zombies but to have life and life more abundantly. If you find yourself in a dry place or not as passionate as you used to be for the things of Christ, pray and ask the Lord to truly send a revival in your mind and in your life. As the word says blessed are those who hunger and are thirsty for they shall be filled. Don’t stay on the path of death but seek truth and righteousness and trust me in the process of time, the truth will make you free! By: Rachel Moore
