hroughout history and in many, especially Eastern cultures, like in China, Nepal, Bhutan, the use of paper had spiritual and ritual meanings and was used in religious ceremonies. In China they burned, and still remains the custom in many places, papers with representations alluding to the deceased during their funeral. Similarly in Mexico and possibly in Polynesia roles for religious or ritual purposes were used. The Aztecs widely used paper, which was called amatl, derived from the Nahuatl language, to write the deeds of their heroes and their religious and sacred rites. Little is known of when the Mayan began to manufacture paper, they used, which was called huun. The Toltecs used it since ancient times, like other civilizations of Mexico. According to research, manufacturing suede corresponds to the Classic period (500 to 600 AD). In part, this custom of the ritual use of paper continues in San Pablito, in the northern mountains of Puebla, the only place in all of Mesoamerica where tradition has continued since the third century AD. The Otomi people, historically relegated to those mountains, still make the amate paper and shamans continue using it in rituals. Little is known abot how this paper was created.

precolombino..

In Mexico the use of paper has been very important to preserve the historical legacy. This pre-Columbian legacy are the pictorial manuscripts or codices that allow us to delve into the history, science, chronology, religion, and many other disciplines -as well as in of the daily life- of the Mesoamerican civilizationsA, such as the Aztec and Mayan. All this thanks to the tlacuilos, scribes that reflected the past in various media. Although some codices are made of cloth, deerskin, or maguey paper, the most common material is the amate (from the Nahuatl: amatl, “paper”). To prepare the amate paper have been used historically various types of plants, generally from the moracea family of plants and ficus, although exceptionally has been used agave (maguey) paper called metl. The bast fibers of some ficus

and especially the Jonote Trema micrantha (L) are currently used. Formerly the rind of the ficus was left for days in the running water of rivers and streams up to hydrate and lost part of its internal latex rind , the next day the white inner rind separated of the dark outer rind and the strips where stretched on a flat surface and pounded with rocks and then smooth stones to form a sheet. A similar method is currently used in the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua and Honduras by the Miskito people. The long rind clothes that are obtained from this method are called tuno in Nicaragua, also in the Colombian Amazon this system is used to make what they call yanchama. The Trees that are more employeed are the Ficus maxima, Ficus insípida and Castellana elástica or rubber tree. Plants are also historically used in the preparation of amate. After the conquest in the sixteenth century, the Spaniards tried to eliminate the production of this paper. For what reason? Considering that it was closely tied to prehispanic rituals, that where condemned by Catholicism. In his work “History of the Indies of New Spain and Islands of the mainland” the Spanish friar Diego Duran said, “with these paintings, [the natives] composed very extensive histories of their ancestors. Which had not given us low light if ignorant zeal had not destroyed us. Because there were some ignorant, believing be [these] idols, did the burning, with stories worthy of memory. “ CONTINUES PAGE 12

Fortunately, efforts to eradicate this manufacturing tradition failed, and today in San Pablito the tradition remains intact. Besides being the primary and sole basis of the town’s economy. artisans work two paper formats 40 × 60 × 245 cm and 122 cm and others only on request. In contrast to its development in ancient times (rituals and codices purposes), amate paper is manufactured almost exclusively for commercial purposes. Religious symbols acquire a “decorative” character and there are new themes inspired by indigenous motives Today either in handicraft markets or shops specializing in Mexican interior decoration, or art galleries amate achieved to reconnect a time with one another despite the vicissitudes of time.

In the words of architect Calatrava, “it is supposed to be a living museum that will serve the educational activities; young people will have the opportunity to see how ecology works in reality”.The Museum of Tomorrow goes into the sea by a long jetty surrounded by a mirror of sea water.

The construction costs: $ 70 million dollars Propound a museum for tomorrow is not the same as thinking about a museum of the future. This is because the today is the portal of the tomorrow and this whole process of change that is coming is very very fast and requires immediate answers. Santiago Calatrava understands this urgency and proposes sustainable and dynamic architecture, proposed as the necessary hinge to show a change of an era. Calatrava also warns that tomorrow’s architecture needs to be anchored in the landscape inherited in an urban environment and for the revitalization. This is a substantial aspect of sustainability that very few current buildings begin to express: Cultural identity, undoubtedly belonging to a place, to a site, the created and built to stay and be part of the collective memory.

sual shapes, music and the people, form a distinctive whole. In Rio de Janeiro lives (with over 100 years old) and still works, Oscar Niemeyer, the author of the most representative icons of not only Brazil but also South American twentieth-century architecture. Since the middle of last century, the works of Oscar Niemeyer teach us how architectural identity would become cultural sustainability in the twentyfirst century. That is the example that takes Santiago Calatrava who with his Museum of Tomorrow aims to stay the same. This project is part of the set of actions done by the Prefecture (Local Government) in Rio de Janeiro and it aims to revitalize an area in front of Guanabara Bay that once was used as a port and military functions. The set is integrated around the Praca Maua acting as focal point. Another important building to be built next to the Praca is the Rio Art Museum (MAR). The museum is a tribute to science and technology, in addition to representing themselves through art over the men history. The tour is organized by five universal questions: Where did we come; who are we; where are we; where are we going, and how we want to go. For some answers are interactive activities. Visitors can explore issues such as climate change, population growth or revolution of new technologies.

Residencial Sierra del Mar La esencia de Vallarta Vallarta’s Essence
A
J
ust 15 minutes South of Puerto Vallarta, along the Pacific coast of Jalisco, RESIDENCIAL SIERRA del MAR is one of the most spectacular and beautiful private housing-developments in Mexico. Between the mountains and the sea, with an imposing entrance, Residencial Sierra del Mar offers the opportunity to enjoy a unique life style. It is much more than Villas of spectacular views and architecture, and quaint cobbled streets. Strict building codes and guidelines have created a unique gated enclave that aims to offer the highest quality standards for its residents, ensuring the capital appreciation of the investment through a carefully considered life style philosophy, created by the Osuna family, developer of the concept. Residencial Sierra del Mar has a very low density: 33 lots (1,000 m2 each); 27 houses built on 5 acres. The everyday operation and security is run by an on-site Manager, established and supervised by the Owners Association. The lush common areas co-exist with the original surroundings; one could say that it is a manicured jungle. It is not uncommon to
see Chachalacas, Black and Blue Jays, Parrots and other exotic birds in the gardens and green areas. Also, Residencial Sierra del Mar provide their own private drinking water with much greater cleanliness and purity than the water from Seapal. These luxury ocean-view Villas have created a unique community in Puerto Vallarta composed of 27 families who enjoy an extremely friendly and respectful atmosphere. All residents maintain that home ownership in Residencial Sierra del Mar is like living in paradise with an immediate integration into the small very select community and friendliness of all its members. Residencial Sierra del Mar was one of the first world-class luxury developments in Puerto Vallarta, and it is credited with raising the standards in the region’s housing market. In short, we could say that having been meticulously planned, Residencial Sierra del Mar became one of the MOST successful communities in Puerto Vallarta, with an innovative architecture and the harmony between landscape and tropical original scenery.
If you want to live in the best of the best, RESIDENCIAL SIERRA del MAR is the place.

Mid-century
E
Checando para montar algunos elementos del Mid-Century en su casa? id-century modern has been a strong design trend for more than a decade now and yet, many of us still feel a little apprehensive when it comes to incorporating mid-century furniture into our own homes. Can we pull it off, or will it seem that we’re trying too hard? Will our homes look like homes or something straight off a Mad Men set? If this is your worry, one way to avoid the uneasiness of not knowing exactly how that Arne Jacobsen Egg chair or that Le Corbusier chaise lounge will work in your living room is to digitally visualize exactly how your home will look long before the furniture truck pulls up. EMFURN has made this task a lot easier with its online interior design services that allow you to do just that. Not only can you pick out your very own George Nelson Ball Clock, but you can see exactly how it will look placed over your fireplace. Looking to put together a mid-Century modern home?

But make your home feel less like a period piece by adding accessories that are not strictly design pieces. Consider ethnic touches like African or Asian sculpture and stools. Or add a traditional touch such as an oriental rug.

Embrace asymmetrical and abstract patterns and paintings. In the 1950s and 60s, abstract art and patterns were all the rage.

Don’t forget about lighting. Lighting is one of the most important aspects of any mid- century home. And the great thing is there are so many statement floor lamps and pendants that you have a wealth of options to choose from. From the 1962 Ar-
co floor lamp designed by brothers Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo to the Artichoke chandelier, there are many great designs that can actually make your space. Many contemporary lamps also work well in a mid-century setting. Mid-century modern has become a classic style that still seems youthful and fresh more than sixty years after its debut in the design world. The simple, clean look that embraces fun and optimism is the perfect direction for how we want to live today. n muy diferente, concurrido y exitoso open house organizó Domus Fine Real Estate en Real del Mar el pasado mes de diciembre.
