A Culture Change Agency f

Ethics & Aesthetics world changing craic

Our particular way of working and our unusual, effective, interventions yearn to change the shape of the cultural landscape, with a fair wind, for the better. Believing in what we do. Often interventions take time to realise. Knowing this, we simply have to slow down or pause. Experience shows every idea finds its moment in the sun, keeping our intentions clear and steady, when that moment comes, we are ready. Going with the flow.

deep and lasting change within cultures and communities can take a nd can happen in the blink of an eye. Shifting beliefs and behaviours en the subtlest of ways demands a conscious, responsive, tenacious approach. Persisting.

ntions steady on their own feet or run their course, they are set free, setting us free in turn to create more. Knowing when to let go.

THE CHALLENGE

NATURE We grew out of the rural, shaped by and intimately connected to (in ways we are yet to fully understand) the environment around us. Whether nomadic or agrarian the rural makes our air, cleans our water, grows our food, connects us to our source. People bound together in communities of place operate in particular ways, sometimes safe, sometimes suffocating. Now our rural, and marine, environments are at stake, the evolution of human beings challenges the very ground we stand on, usurps the soil our souls depend upon.

Fhaoilinn Croft, Glenelg ʻLovin the landʼ

12

E OF OUR TIME

MIND We have grown into the urban, drafted the raw materials of our world into the sculpting of place peopled by ideas and innovation. Whether down town or uptown we are all intimately connected in the social system of situation. People bound together in communities of interest operate in particular ways, sometimes energising, sometimes terrifying. Now our densely populated environments are putting the pinch on our ecosystem at the same time as they produce the very solutions we crazy human beings crave. Post industrial metamorphosis.

So Say’s story started in November 2010 (Reykjavik) on a cold snowy morning when I… thanks to Bjarni, was allowed to observe the National Assembly of 1000 randomly selected people which started the constitution redra ing process. Bjarni gave time to a stranger with missionary zeal to share knowledge and experience, he is pivotal in ge ing us here… From a presentation in October 2011, and then a public meeting in May 2012 we began to gather a core team… And we swept up all sorts of amazing people on the way to the first Thinking Together assembly… we dra ed the advert for an assembly coordinator ‘work all hours for peanuts’ and Zara joined the team. Post Thinking Together Zara, Eilidh, Euan and Julie e joined as Stewards. (In 2014) They pushed forward with the next stages of Thinking Together and the development of Wee Play (Scotland) with Perry. Monday 15th September 2014 we presented Democracy Remixed in collaboration with Northern Renewal and Kiltr supported by the Common Weal. Screening ‘Blueberry Soup’ telling the story of constitution writing Icelandic style, enjoying live performance and dialogue. Sunday 21st September in Seacliffe, Strachur, we launched Democracy House. The moral of this story:… Dream big. Follow your heart. Welcome that random stranger. Collaborate. The impossible is well within reach! 16

In Person

Up and down the west coast 07948833008

Let us cocreate the futurenow, Our culture change interventions are vehicles through which individuals, groups and communities create, learn and develop together. It’s exciting to work with creativity and compassion in service to some of our most challenging problems. And it’s better when we do it together.

‘Creativity is our most powerful renewable resource’ While everything seems doom and gloom - some predictions say we’ve a 10 to 20 year window to sort it out or we will die out - we are excited about the many possibilities that these uncertain and transformational times have to offer.

“Flash, Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!” When communities work well, individuals, with all their differences, in background, beliefs and behaviours, can collaborate and thrive, not just survive, in the face of change. 18

The Executry, and Legacy, of the Late Bruce Douglas Pettie From the Date of Death (DoD) 2013 September 21, largely completed by 2017 June 21, remaining elements still ongoing . . .

Conspectus Led by the Will and Codicil of the deceased we worked to honour his wishes in the administration, and management, of his Estate and initiation of his Legacy. Estate valued at £1.5 million; asset rich, cash poor, complex and unusual. Property, unique personal goods, vehicles, vessels including overseas, bank accounts including overseas, unlisted and listed stocks and shares, debtors, other assets/income due and a host of flotsam n jetsam. We took an office for this work which evolved into the SMST office. Donations to charity facilitated the 36% inheritance tax rate. We worked to forgive debts where appropriate and ingather/distribute in a way that honoured the raison d’être of the legacy. Over four years we spent 5% of total estate on overheads.

Legacy Projects Festival of Bruce / Life Is Deadly: The will clearly stated, and made provision for, a party post a cremation (that no one was to attend). Life is deadly, non of us get out alive, so the most important thing, even in the face of a terminal diagnosis, is to get more living out of life. The Scottish Maritime Sailing Trust (SMST): A keen sailor and coastal enthusiast we found a Trust willing to work with us to ‘explore, dream, discover’. Donating two motor boats, two sailing boats and a clinker dinghy, along with start up cash, and relevant artefacts, we re-vivified the Trust in the name of the deceased. Bruce Arms AKA Democracy House: We gathered the best of his possessions and upgraded his cottage, charged with the mission, to support the development of democratic innovation. Rythim: Complex pensions and investment structures created to support an innovative biomedical start up through esoteric shares, prompted the commitment to recycle returns in to music and health in Scotland. Small & Significant: We worked to convert every decision, even the smallest, into positive affect. Heritage vehicles and fitted wardrobes to heart felt new homes, backing Scottish independence via a business network, legacy loans to social enterprise, devices donated to start ups, bits n pieces to synchronistic ends.

Your life is right now! It’s not later! It’s not in that time of retirement. It’s not when the lover gets here. It’s not when you’ve moved into the new house. It’s not when you get the better job. Your life is right now. It will always be right now. You might as well decide to start enjoying your life right now, because it’s not ever going to get better than right now- until it gets better right now!
