Dear Supporter,

Director’s Summary

4

Our graduates did very well in 2005-2006. Ninety-three percent (+3%) were professionally occupied in professional employment, teaching, graduate school/continuing education, or military service. This is the highest employment percentage in the past 15 years we have on record. We are pleased to provide you with data regarding the recruiting and career development activities of 2005-2006.

Career Development

6

Overall, our staff advised 1,688 (+2.1%) students/alums and made 56 (+33.3%) presentations. We reported 574 (+7.5%) students on internship sites. Our Fall and Spring Career Fairs were successful, attracting 167 (+13.6%) and 157 (+30.8%) employers respectively, with a cumulative total of 4,972 (-20.4%) student attendees. Yes, that’s right. The job market has been so strong that we have actually seen a decline in student attendance at our fairs. We provided 2,653 (+11.8%) campus interviews and an additional 1,750 (+53.4%) job postings for internships and permanent positions that did not involve campus recruiting. I think that indicates that in this highly competitive job market, companies are trying to recruit more schools, but not necessarily through campus interviewing. Fifty-six percent of students remained in the state of Iowa for their professional pursuits, while 44% went outside of the state. There are several sections in this report that may be of interest. They include; 1) top employers hiring our students, 2) a state-by-state list of the relocation activities of our graduates, 3) graduate schools attended, and 4) a comparison of employment rates over the last three years. We include a breakdown of professional school attendance as well. We are very pleased with the development of the use of ISU CMS, our computerized on-campus interviewing and database management system. This collaborative effort among colleges has given us greater exposure to employers and students and gives us a more seamless appearance to those accessing ISU students for recruiting purposes. As well, we continue to teach BUS AD 301 (Professional Employment Preparation) and co-teach BUS AD 201 (Careers in Business) with Undergraduate Programs. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to reporting the successes of College of Business students and graduates in the future. Best Wishes,

Kathy Wieland Kathy Wieland Director Business Career Services

Definition of Categories: EMPLOYED PROFESSIONALLY is defined as employment which requires a college degree. It does not always indicate employment in the graduated field of study. TEMPORARILY EMPLOYED; STILL SEEKING PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduates are working in a wide range of positions which do not require a college degree. This type of employment is often a carryover from work while in school. SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduate is unemployed and actively seeking professional employment.

* = Averages tabulated from a national salary survey of 400+ universities

NOT SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduate is not entering the job market at this time.

26

NO PLACEMENT INFORMATION indicates that despite our best efforts no contact was able to be made to ascertain this individual’s employment status.
