March 2008

Dear Supporter, College of Business graduates did very well in 2006-2007. Ninety-one percent (-2%) were occupied in professional employment, teaching, graduate school/continuing education, or military service. This is slightly lower than 2005-2006, but very strong by most standards. We are pleased to provide you with data regarding the recruiting and career development activities of 2006-2007. Overall, our staff advised 1,848 (+8.7%) students/alums and made 66 (+15.2%) presentations. We reported 695 (+17.5%) students on internship sites. This is the highest number of intern reports we have ever recorded. Our Fall and Spring Career Fairs were successful, attracting 186 (+10.3%) and 173 (+9.3%) employers respectively, with a cumulative total of 6,118 (+18.8%) student attendees. The student numbers attending fairs increased nicely and might be due to the slightly less brisk market indicated in the overall “placement” numbers. We provided 2,062 (-22.3%) campus interviews and an additional 2,239 (+21.9%) job postings for internships and permanent positions that did not involve campus recruiting. I think this indicates that companies are trying to recruit more college talent, but not necessarily through campus interviewing. 59% of students remained in the state of Iowa for their professional pursuits, while 41% went outside of the state. This is up from 56% remaining in-state for 2005-2006 and is indicative, in my opinion, of a slight retraction in the job market. There are several sections in this report that may be of interest. They include; 1) top employers hiring our students, 2) a state-by-state list of the relocation activities of our graduates, 3) graduate schools attended, and 4) employment rates by major. We include a breakdown of professional school attendance as well. We are very pleased with the development of the use of ISU CMS, our computerized on-campus interviewing and database management system. This collaborative effort among colleges has given us greater exposure to employers and students and gives us a more seamless appearance to those accessing ISU students for recruiting purposes. As well, we continue to teach BUS AD 301 (Professional Employment Preparation). We thank you for your continued support and look forward to reporting the successes of College of Business students and graduates in the future.

Definition

of

C at e g o r i e s :

EMPLOYED PROFESSIONALLY is defined as employment which requires a college degree. It does not always indicate employment in the graduated field of study. TEMPORARILY EMPLOYED; STILL SEEKING PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduates are working in a wide range of positions which do not require a college degree. This type of employment is often a carryover from work while in school. SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduate is unemployed and actively seeking professional employment.

* = Averages tabulated from a national salary survey of 400+ universities

NOT SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduate is not entering the job market at this time. NO PLACEMENT INFORMATION indicates that despite our best efforts no contact was made to ascertain this individual’s employment status.

College of Business
