The PCIS course under the direction of Mr. Seth Rutledge has led to innovation and a more creative approach to education in Prosper ISD. Our students have grown in their communication, presentation, and ability to problem-solve when provided a real-world authentic learning experience. The class has also allowed student learning to become more personalized and individualized based on the interest of students. The Prosper Career Independent Study (PCIS) embodies authentic learning and provides our students with the opportunity to connect to the world beyond the classroom. The level of engagement of our students inspires others and removes the walls of traditional education to provide our students with the ability to learn at deeper levels and prepare for a career of the future. The partnership and learning experiences with a mentor in a specific field allow each of our students to learn the importance of networking and professional communication. I would like to thank our staff, mentors, and the PISD Board of Trustees for their support of the PCIS program. The contribution that has been made to our students’ growth and development will serve them well beyond their high school education. The connections that the PCIS students have been able to make through their mentors is invaluable. The power of education is the transfer of learning and having the ability to apply the skills that are developed in the PCIS program to the real world are in direct alignment with the Prosper ISD Graduate Profile.
Dr. Greg Bradley Deputy Superintendent
Knowledge in and of itself can be a good thing. Application of that knowledge is better. That is why the PCIS program is valuable. There is nothing better than seeing our students strive to apply their knowledge, their ideas, and their dreams to a real world situation. It is inspiring to see the projects they complete and to hear them talk about their experience and learning, and to know that the completion of this project is not the end. In fact, this course of study is a launching pad to a field of study, a career, and possibly the next disruptive technology that will change life for all of us. Congratulations to all of this year’s participants. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for each of you.
