SCHOOL SUPPLIES The PISD elementary schools, Rogers MS and Reynolds MS offered parents the opportunity to purchase school supply packs in the spring. At the elementary schools, pre-ordered supplies will be on the student’s desk at Meet the Teacher Night. School Supply packs for middle school students will be distributed during the first few days of school. High school students simply need paper and a pen on the first day of school and their individual teachers will provide students with the course requirements. If you did not previously purchase a school supply pack and are interested in doing so, there will be a few available for purchase during middle school schedule pick up and elementary meet the teacher night. These extra packs will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and once they are all purchased, no additional ones will be available. If you chose not to purchase a school supply pack, school supply lists for each campus can be found at www.prosperisd.net/schoolsupplylists..

RETURNING STUDENTS
Parents of returning PISD students are reminded to register their school aged children online through InfoSnap. It is important for parents to complete this registration information yearly in order to ensure we have accurate information for your student. An automated email has been sent to parents containing information for each student for registration. If you did not receive an email with this information, please contact the Campus Registrar (see below) at your zoned campus. In order for students to be placed on a class list at elementary or to have a schedule made at secondary campuses, parents must complete the annual online registration process and provide the district with a new proof of residency.

TRANSPORTATION
Prosper ISD continues to bring quality transportation to the Prosper community. All bus routes are equipped with seatbelts, air conditioning, and video surveillance. New information is available on the Prosper ISD website by going to www.prosper-isd.net/Transportation. This site will continue to be updated in preparation for the first day of school. Beginning Friday, July 19th, parents will be able to access their student(s) bus stop information through the Prosper ISD website (www.prosper-isd.net/Transportation). Select “Bus schedule for Registered Riders” located on the left side of the screen; there you will be able to find your student’s bus stop, bus schedule, as well as register to receive notifications. If you do not see your pick-up/dropoff location upon logging in, transportation may still be processing your route information. Please check back daily for updates. Please note: Requests taken after August 14th may not be processed until August 21st. Due to growth, times may change daily as students are added and removed from the schedule. Bus schedules should even out by the end of September. Individual student information nor Special Education Transportation is available through this site. If you have any questions, please contact us at pisdbus@prosper-isd.net. Students who live within 2 miles of their designated campus are not eligible for transportation. Please note the Ineligible Bus Zones and crossing guard locations are located on the Prosper ISD Transportation website. In order for a student’s instrument to be carried on the bus, it must fit safely on their lap. If it won’t, please contact your campus for alternate arrangements.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade students must have a parent, approved adult or sibling (3rd grade or older) present at the bus stop in order for the younger student to be released from the bus. If no adult or sibling is present, or if the parent or approved adults cannot be contacted, the student(s) will be returned to their home campus for pick up. Every driver has a roster of their students and their listed bus stops to assist in drop-off verification. However, if you choose for your K or 1st grade student to be released from the bus without a parent, approved adult or sibling (3rd grade or older) present, please notify us of your decision by emailing pisdbus@prosper-isd. net and include your student’s legal name. Elementary students may be required to walk up to .10 of a mile to a bus stop. Middle & High School students may be required to walk up to .25 of a mile. Bus routes are designed to limit student ride time to no more than 45 minutes oneway if at all possible; however, most students ride under 30 minutes one-way. If you have any questions, please contact Prosper ISD’s Transportation office at 469-219-2065 or feel free to email us at pisdbus@prosper-isd.net.

GT SERVICES
Prosper ISD serves Gifted and Talented (GT) students in grades K-12. Elementary students begin pullout services on Sept. 4th this year, while our middle school and high school students will begin services once school begins. All Kindergarten students will be tested in December and services for those students placed in the GT program will begin no later than March 2nd. Testing for new elementary students will be done during the weeks of August 19th and 26th on their home campus. This will include students who are coming from another district and need retesting, as well as any students new to Prosper ISD who have been referred. For more information please visit the GT website at www.prosper-isd.net > Departments > Gifted & Talented.
IMMUNIZATIONS
IMMUNIZATIONS / VACCINATIONS The state of Texas has strict requirements for Texas school districts on the acceptable evidence necessary for student vaccinations prior to entry and admission to school. These rules can be very confusing for parents especially as the state changes them from time to time. The law requires that a student has evidence of proper vaccinations or a current state approved and notarized exemption certificate on file before the student may begin school. If you are unsure about your child’s vaccination records, contact your pediatrician to have them assessed. If you are planning on doing an exemption, know that it must be renewed every two years and it takes 2-4 weeks so give yourself plenty of time to complete it online, get it from the state, and get it notarized before school starts so that your child can start school on time.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Prosper ISD is excited to provide the Community Resource Folder, which will help publicize resources and events available to our community. The information has been submitted to and approved by the Communications Department. It will be updated on a regular basis. Please Note: Resources in this community folder do not constitute an endorsement by Prosper ISD of any groups or organizations.

Below you will find a quick overview of the PISD School Attendance policies, but it is highly recommended that parents review the Student Handbooks for your child’s campus located on the PISD website to become familiar with the Attendance policy. 1. Parents must notify the school the morning their child will be absent. You may call the school and leave a message on the Attendance line, or you may email the Attendance Clerk. The Attendance Clerk will call a student’s parent if the parent has not notified the school regarding the absence. 2. When a student returns from an absence, a signed parent note or doctor’s note explaining the reason for the absence must be sent to the school within 2 days of the absence. The phone call or email that a parent sent notifying the school on the morning the student was absent does not qualify as an absence note. 3. Parent’s Note after an Absence on the day a student is absent; parents should call or e-mail the attendance clerk. Upon the student returning to school— the student must bring a note signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence within two days of the absence or the absence will be unexcused. A parent e-mail sent directly to the attendance clerk describing the reason for the absence will also be accepted if received within two days of the absence. A note signed by the student, even with the parent’s permission, will not be accepted unless the student is 18 or older. 4. Parents will be allowed to write a total of only 5 absence notes during the school year (e.g., if a student is out for 3 consecutive days, it counts as 3 parent notes even if only one note is given for the absences upon return to school). Once you have exceeded this maximum, all absences will be considered unexcused. A list of acceptable absences are listed in the Student Handbook. 5. If a student is absent for more than 5 consecutive days due to illness, a parent note will not be accepted. A statement from a doctor or medical clinic explaining the reason for the absence must accompany the student upon their return to school. 6. If your child leaves during the day for a doctor or dentist appointment, a doctor’s note must be brought back on the same day (or the following day if the time of the appointment and duration doesn’t allow for return to school on the same day) in order for the absence(s) to be considered “medical.” 7. Only unexcused absences count toward truancy. A student with excessive absences may be subject to truancy prevention measures. 8. Excused and unexcused absences count against the 90% rule. Students in grades K-12 must attend class for 90% of the time it is offered to receive credit or a final grade.

VOLUNTEERING
Every year, we receive questions from parents and community members about background checks. Here is some helpful information to help you determine whether you need to go through this process. • • • • •
24 | BACK TO SCHOOL
To ensure the safety and security of our students and staff, Prosper ISD requires a background check every year. Even if you have children on multiple campuses, you only need to submit one check a year. You do not need one per campus. If you only want to eat lunch with your child, you do not need to submit a background check. You will only need to bring your driver’s license with you to the campus. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your campus administrators. Background checks are required for the following (this list is not exhaustive): 1. If you want to volunteer in any capacity anywhere in the district 2. If you want to be a student observer 3. If you want to attend a field trip 4. If you are a guest speaker for a class or group 5. If you are helping with the coaching of a sports team or any other student group 6. If you are delivering athletic meals

Families and friends were in the throes of party preparation while school officials busied themselves arriving by 6:00 am at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco to prepare for the annual graduation ceremony. This year’s PHS Senior Class graduated 671 students and was led by Valedictorian, Logan Davenport and Salutatorian, Molly Leonard.
