Welcome Welcome to Prosper ISD! We are so grateful that you have entrusted us with the education of your children. We understand that starting in a new school brings with it excitement and a bit of trepidation. We hope that this magazine will answer questions and provide you with information and contacts to help you navigate your way during this first year in the district. Prosper ISD has earned a reputation for excellence in education and in our extra-curricular opportunities. We hope that your children will enjoy and grow from the boundless opportunities for involvement and growth both in the classroom and beyond. From the halls of our campuses will come future teachers, construction workers, architects, doctors, cosmetologists, lawyers, mechanics, astronauts, welders, soldiers, and political leaders. What makes Prosper ISD great is that we do not need to look to the future to see this leadership in our students. Every day we see our students leading in the classroom, in their community, and in extracurricular and co-curricular activities. In addition to the robust educational, leadership, and extracurricular opportunities for your children, Prosper ISD offers you many opportunities to get involved. We are committed to building community, deepening collaboration, and continuing to communicate as we connect with you. I look forward to connecting with you as we work together to watch your children grow and flourish in this amazing district that is Prosper ISD.

Sincerely,

Dr. Holly Ferguson Superintendent of Schools 7

Message from our School Board President Since moving here with my family in 2005, the growth of Prosper has been nothing short of remarkable. You need to look no further than the list of Prosper ISD campuses to see this change--from the five we had in 2005 to the twenty that we will fill this fall. But our growth has been in more than just numbers. Prosper has grown in its opportunities for our children. As a parent, I was thrilled with the quality of education that my children, who graduated in 2012 and 2014, received in the Prosper Independent School District. We loved the feeling of community and caring that we saw in our own children’s education as evidenced in our interaction with the teachers, staff, and administration. As Prosper ISD continues to grow, the School Board and District Administration remain committed to doing everything within our power to make sure that our students receive the highest quality education possible. We are committed to providing opportunities for students that enrich their education while supporting their social and emotional growth. We hope that you will get involved in our community and school district that is steeped in tradition and school spirit. We have many opportunities to get involved from advisory committees and booster clubs to PTOs, Informational events, and community activities. Our Prosper Promise is to provide multiple avenues for our students, staff, parents, and community to partner with the district as we continue to grow. Welcome to Prosper! We look forward to serving your family! Sincerely,

Jim Bridges Jim Bridges

The Prosper ISD Gifted Program is designed to challenge high ability learners at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in order to develop critical and creative thinkers who are able to positively contribute to their community. In order to best serve these students, all PISD teachers have gifted training and are required to earn additional hours of gifted training each year. The English as a Second Language Program provides support for students that have a primary language other than English in grades PK-12. The ESL Specialist supports our students in acquiring English fluency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. ESL Specialists also serve as a cultural bridge for students new to the United States, linking a student’s native culture with their new culture in America. With limited availability, PISD has a Dual Language Program starting in Kindergarten at Rucker Elementary. Families interested in the Dual Language program can get more information by selecting the Departments tab on the district website and then selecting Dual Language.

Social and Emotional Health Human connection is a key component to positive emotional health and personal growth. Prosper ISD is committed to the belief that a sense of belonging to a greater community improves an individual’s motivation, health, and happiness. The district is committed to ensuring a positive social emotional health for the whole child believing that social emotional learning is a valuable investment in our students’ futures. Ultimately, this will help to meet the goal that all Prosper ISD students graduate ready to be contributing members of society in whatever capacity they choose.

30

TeleHealth

Prosper ISD partners with Children’s Health to provide school based telehealth for all of our students. The program provides students who become ill at school with convenient, onsite access to Children’s Health providers. With a completed consent form and parent permission and at the recommendation of the school nurse, video technology is used to connect the student with a doctor or pediatric nurse practitioner at Children’s Health. The student can be diagnosed and have prescriptions sent to the pharmacy, all without having to leave school for a doctor’s appointment or the parent having to leave work, in most cases. Prompt examination and treatment by a provider reduces absenteeism and helps keep children in school, healthy, and ready to learn.

TeleBehavioral Health

Prosper ISD also partners with Children’s Health for SchoolBased Telebehavioral Health Services. Students can receive telebehavioral counseling during the school day from a Children’s Health provider at no cost to families.

Hope Squad

H PE S Q U A D ®

Hope Squad is a Peer to Peer Suicide Prevention Program approved through TEA. During the 2019-2020 school year, Prosper ISD implemented Hope Squads on all of our secondary campuses. In 2020-2021 we implemented Junior Hope Squads on all of our elementary campuses.

Parent Seminars

Prosper ISD hosts four parent education opportunities each year focused on health and wellness. This year each campus will host at least two “Coffee with the Counselor” events to go over campus specific needs. Monitor district social media and website announcements for upcoming seminars.

Safety School

tip411

No Bully Zone 32

tip411 is a tool used to enhance student safety. It is an internet-based communication system that gives students or any concerned citizen a means to quickly and anonymously report threats, potential self-harm, concerns, suspicious or criminal behavior at school or beyond school hours regarding PISD schools, students, and/ or staff. When you submit a tip, it is sent to a 3rd party tip service acting as a privacy buffer between you and the Prosper ISD Police Department to preserve your identity and contact information. If you have a tip for the Prosper ISD Police Department please go to www.prosperisd.net/tip411 for options to submit a tip.

Prosper ISD prohibits bullying on school property, at school-sponsored or school-related activities, or in any vehicle operated by the district. Bullying may be verbal or written expression or expression through electronic means or physical conduct. Bullying is not tolerated by the district and any student or parent of a student who believes that the student or another student has experienced bullying or that a student has engaged in bullying is encouraged to immediately report the incident (prosper-isd.net/nobullyzone). Retaliation against anyone involved in the complaint process is a violation of district policy and is prohibited. Students or parents may also report an alleged incident of bullying, orally or in writing, to a teacher, counselor, principal or other district employee.

Safety School

Prosper ISD Police

The Prosper ISD Police Department is a full service, independent, Texas Police agency. They are dispatched by the Town of Prosper Police Department and work cooperatively with them to ensure a safe school environment. PISD Police Officers also have jurisdiction in all areas of Prosper Independent School District and work cooperatively with Frisco PD, Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Denton County Sheriff’s Office, McKinney PD and Celina PD.

500 Positive Interactions The Prosper ISD Police Department commits to working to ensure that all PISD students have 500 positive interactions with PISD police officers before they graduate. A key component of the role of the Prosper ISD Police Department is building relationships with students.

33

Human Resources The quality of instruction provided in a classroom or on a campus is directly correlated to the quality of educational professionals providing the collaborative service. To this end, Prosper ISD is committed to recruiting and hiring the best educators available.

What do I like most about Prosper ISD? The teachers! They are hands down the BEST! The teachers in PISD are exceptional and work hard to reach each and every individual student. I have never in my life experienced teachers that genuinely care about and go above and beyond for the students that they serve. They are dedicated, hard-working, compassionate and approachable. With each year that passes I have the joy of watching my kids build relationships with their teachers in addition to learning academically. So thankful to be part of a district where teachers care so deeply and put students first! ~ Laura Caufield, Reynolds Parent 34

Finding Future Leaders The Prosper ISD application process is quite comprehensive. In addition to a normal written (digital) application that asks for candidates’ education, experience, and references, the district asks the candidate to comment on how the PISD Educator Profile aligns with their own educational philosophy. Prosper ISD Executive Director of Human Resources Ms. Bernadette Gerace explains that “we also employ a candidate assessment that was developed to help us learn more about a candidate’s attitudinal, cognitive, and pedagogy knowledge and skills as

well as utilizing a digital interviewing program that allows our administrators to virtually ‘meet’ all candidates and hear their thoughts on questions specifically designed for each position. Once our administrators see all of this, they are best able to determine which candidates they should invite in for an interview (virtual or in-person).” As always, Human Resources also ensures that all candidates who are recommended for hire have all of the proper certifications and requirements to serve as educators in Prosper ISD.

35

Educator Profile

The collective stakeholders and communities that serve Prosper ISD strive for the Prosper ISD Educator to be a model for the students of the district in their academic abilities and drive, in their constant pursuit of challenges and learning opportunities, in their well-rounded experiences, in their fair and respectful treatment of others, and in their contributions towards the community through their involvement.

36

Leadership Profile The Prosper ISD Leadership Profile designates the attributes necessary to ensure leaders have the greatest impact on the school community. The profile provides clarity and direction to both current and aspiring leaders at all levels of the organization. The qualities of a PISD Leader include: a shared vision, cultivates leadership, confident & relatable, exemplifies self-awareness, professional communication, receptive to constructive criticism, builds relationships, and lifelong learning.

37

Facilities During times of rapid growth, one of the first areas to be impacted is the organizational facilities. Whether considering a school over capacity or not enough program facilities to meet the growing needs of student involvement, facilities are a focal point that must be assessed. Prosper ISD is committed to providing high quality learning facilities for our students and staff while also developing a solid plan for creating equity and efficiency in regards to programs and facility use in a time of rapid growth.
