Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation Making a Difference for 25 Years In 1987, Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation was established as a nonprofit organization to support the services, programs and patients of Providence TrinityCare Hospice. More than 40,000 patients and their families have been served throughout these years, and the foundation has raised more than $20 million to ensure no one is ever turned away because of their inability to pay or lack of insurance. Here is a sample of the many stories (names have been changed): • Eric was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor at age 6. He lived with his mother and two younger siblings. His mom worked very hard as a waitress but did not have health insurance. As a single mom, she was understandably overwhelmed as she struggled to make ends meet for her family, much less afford specialized medical care for Eric. Through the foundation, Eric was able to come home and experience the quality of life and care that every dying child deserves. • Mike was a veteran who wanted to live out his remaining days with his family on the East Coast. The foundation was able to fund his transportation back to South Carolina, as well as provide for oxygen during his trip, to be with his brother and sister-in-law at the end of his life. • John, a 17-year-old baseball player, was diagnosed with a rapidly growing form of bone cancer. He was in UCLA Medical Center and wanted to go home,
but he needed a special hospital bed to accommodate his larger frame and make him comfortable. The foundation was able to meet his needs. • Jim had to choose between paying his electric and heating bills or buying food. The foundation was able to pay his utility bills and provide him with gift certificates to purchase groceries.

One Board, One Mission Over the past year, the Board of Directors of Providence TrinityCare Hospice and the Board of Trustees of Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation have worked closely together on TrinityCare’s vision and mission for the future. Through this important work, the boards voted unanimously to consolidate our governance structure to create one board, overseeing the mission-driven work of both entities.This board will share the governance of our two corporations. While this board is a high-level policy board, the directors also lead sub-committees to advise senior management on shared strategy, highlighting several different areas of interest.The decision to merge our boards was made after careful deliberation, which included planning sessions and interviews of directors, trustees and leadership.
