How to stay cool while you work from home this summer Written by | realestateview.com.au in buying ACCORDING to Roy Morgan research, approximately 4.3 million Australians have temporarily relocated their work space to home since March, a trend that may continue throughout the hot summer months for a substantial proportion of us. While many workers are used to being comfortable in commercially air conditioned off ice environments, you may f ind your at-home workspace may not be ready for the warmer than average temperatures the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting for many parts of the country this summer. For those with air conditioning already installed, or anyone about to purchase a new system, Kyle Rafter, national product manager at Fujitsu General, has the following tips for keeping cool while working f rom home, without blowing the budget: 1. Don’t set the temperature too low and ensure the mode is changed to cooling. When the temperature outside is unbearable, it can be very tempting to lower the air conditioning temperature indoors to cool the home faster. However, this can put unnecessary pressure on the system and can contribute to an increase in energy use.
In summer, ensure the air conditioner mode is changed to cooling, and set the temperature at a recommended 23 degrees to create a comfortable environment while minimising energy consumption. 2. Use timers and start cooling earlier during the morning. Use programmable timers to start the air conditioner earlier in the day. At the beginning of the day, the air inside and outside the home is generally cooler. This in turn can assist the air conditioning system to use less energy reaching the set temperature. Switching the air conditioner on during the hottest part of the day can make the system work much harder, and take longer to cool down the home. 3. Use Wi-Fi innovations to manage air conditioning systems f rom smart devices. Smart technology makes it easy to control an air conditioner f rom your desk, using a smartphone or tablet, or voice command options when it’s available. Fujitsu General has a suite of Wi-Fi controller options, for those with existing Fujitsu General air conditioning systems up to 10 years old operating a wireless remote control with inf rared technology, or
COMFORTABLE: Keeping cool while working from home. those purchasing a new system. 4. Control the areas being cooled to avoid wasting energy. Optimise your air conditioner use during the extreme temperatures of summer by cooling the spaces where the home off ice is set up. Ducted air conditioning systems enable this using zone control, which directs air flow to specif ied areas within the home. However, if a smaller home or unit has one wall mounted unit installed in the living area, and the home off ice is set up in another room, consider relocating
to the living room on those really hot days. Also, close doors to rooms not being used during the day to guide the cool air to where it’s most needed. 5. Keep the indoor and outdoor units clean. Dust and debris can build-up on both the indoor and outdoor unit, restricting airflow. This can cause the system to work harder, leading to higher energy usage and increased running costs. Wipe them down, and clean the indoor unit f ilters regularly.

Suzuki Ignis GLX review
Ŷ TINY: Cute and practical the facelifted Suzuki Ignis offers excellent value. SUZUKI Ignis, it’s Latin for ‘fire’, has had two lives on the Australian market. From 2000 to 2005 it was a small three- or five-door hatchback before disappearing for just over a decade and returning, in 2016, as a compact SUV. The current, Series II, version was launched in mid2020 although it is effectively just a minor facelift rather than having any substantial changes. Suzuki is arguably the world leader in the design and construction of small vehicles and the little Suzuki Ignis is a classic example of the Japanese giant’s engineering ability. Two Ignis variants are of-
fered. The entry level GL comes to market at $17,990 with manual gearbox and $18,990 as a CVT automatic while the higher-spec autoonly GLX sells for the CVT $19,990. On-road costs need to be added to these Ignis GL has 15-inch steel wheels while GLX gets 16inch alloys. GLX also has automatic levelling LED projector headlights, daytime running lights and a Guide Me light function. GL only has halogen headlights. Both models get front foglights. STYLING Ignis is both fashionable and functional with its snub
By ALISTAIR KENNEDY nose, fascinating tail with the stylised Suzuki badge in the C-pillars and interesting interior. Its tall but narrow body does give it a bit of a gawky look that detracts from its more attractive features. With a young target audience clearly in its sights there is a range of customisation options including two-tone body colour combinations, grille trims and centre garnish, wheel decals, side stripes and C-pillar gill slits. Even the door mirrors and foglights can get their own personality. The Ignis’ cabin can also be personalised with the colour choices on the seat trim,
centre console, transmission surrounds, grab handles on the doors, air vents. ENGINE / TRANSMISSIONS Power for the Ignis comes from a four-cylinder 1.2-litre Dualjet (two injectors per cylinder) engine. It puts out 66 kW of power at 6000 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 4400 revs. The entry-level GL comes with the choice of five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission. GLX is CVT only. SAFETY Safety levels are reasonable for such a small and budget-priced car with none of the
latest features that are rapidly becoming standard even in its market-segment competitors such as parking sensors and autonomous emergency braking. It doesn’t as yet have an ANCAP safety rating. What it does have in both models are enhanced ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist; dual front, side and curtain airbags; electronic stability program; brake and clutch pedal release system; IsoFix child seat anchorages in the two outboard rear seats; and reversing camera. Strangely the Ignis CVT models also come with hill hold, a feature that surely
would have been much more useful with the manual gearbox. INFOTAINMENT Both Ignis models have a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen for satellite navigation and reversing camera, as well as access to audio, aux inputs, USB and SD card, Bluetooth and smartphone connection to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also access to MirrorLink which displays various smartphone apps on the screen, The leather trimmed threespoke steering wheel has audio and cruise control buttons, plus hands-free phone use.

Triton GSR pick-up carries off bold upgrades By DEREK OGDEN BETTER late than never, Mitsubishi is making a double-headed assault on the increasingly popular ute market with the addition of the GSR and GLX-R to the Triton Double Cab range. Both are bold looking pick-ups with 18-inch alloy wheels - the GSR in black the GLX-R gaining chromed door mirrors, front bumper garnish, door handles and silver front grille. The latter sits between the GLX+ and GSR in the Triton scheme of things. The GSR - the test vehicle - goes beyond with styling dominated by black exterior highlights, plus upmarket comfort and convenience in the cabin.
The GLX-R manual 4WD sets the scene with a $41,990 price tag, plus onroad costs, the auto version adds $2500 to the price, while the GSR automatic 4WD tops off the range at $51,890. Mitsubishi has also updated its Diamond Advantage Program, with the new-car warranty extended to ten years or 200,000 kilometres, providing the vehicle is serviced by a company dealer. If owners do not service with a Mitsubishi dealer, the warranty reverts to ďŹ ve years / 100,000 km. Capped price servicing is also extended to 10 years / 150,000 km and roadside assistance to four years with authorised Mitsubishi dealer servicing.
STYLING The Triton GSR has one of the most imposing frontends in the segment with black shield design, grille, headlamp garnish and skid plate. Black makes a further impact on the Double Cab design with 18-inch alloy wheels, door mirrors and handles, plus sidesteps. INTERIOR Luxury is the byword with leather trimmed upholstery topped off by heated front seats, power adjusted on the driver’s side. Leather extends to the steering wheel and park brake handle and gearshift knob. Buyers have the option of a tan orange interior, with tan orange highlights on the leather seats, orange console box and knee pads. Front seats offer a deal of comfort and lateral support rarely found in a truck. Indeed, there are instances of my being less comfortable in a luxury vehicle. The rear seat, designed
Ĺś TOP-END: Mitsubishi Triton GSR is out to dominate rivals by leading from the front with bold grille and bonnet styling. to take three, is atter and ďŹ rmer. There is limited leg room but head room and seating position gives occupants a good view all round. Dual zone climate control includes a centrally located roof-mounted outlet. INFOTAINMENT A 7-inch touchscreen works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connection, six-speaker audio, digital radio, four USB inputs, one HDMI input and there’s
keyless entry and start. All Triton models come standard with the Mitsubishi Link system, which uses Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to a smartphone. Basic phoning can be controlled by voice or steering wheel controls to ensure safety while on the move. ENGINES / TRANSMISSIONS The new Triton makes use of a 2.4-litre DOHC MIVEC
