NAVARA Nirvana: according to the dictionary, the latter is an ultimate state achieved usually after a series of reincarnations. Mystical mumbo jumbo aside, this could quite easily apply to the latest Nissan pickup. The Navara took a large leap in looks, technology and equipment three years ago and now follows up with the 2021 version taking the fight up to an army of rivals in the fiercely competitive

The Navara SL Single Cab Chassis 4x2 manual comes to market at $33,890, plus onroad costs and ranges through a dozen variants, topping out
with the PRO-4X Dual Cab Pickup 4x4 auto at $62,790. The popular Dual Cab Navara ST-X pickup, with leather and sunroof, on test ($60,790), has gained a payload plus and trailer sway control, and is fitted with a towbar as standard. Options include leatheraccented seat trim, heated front seats, eight-way driver’s seat with power slide / recline / height adjustment, power lumbar support and sunroof, with
electric one-touch power tilt and slide operation. Star of the increased carrying capacity of the latest Navara are tie-down points which slide on rails the length of the tub and secure awkward shapes. A tub liner comes at no extra cost. The Navara range relies on a 2.3-litre common-rail fourcylinder diesel, in single or twinturbo configurations. The single-turbo unit in the
entry-level SL produces 120 kW and 403 Nm of torque. The twin-turbo, offered across the rest of the range, tops this with 140 kW and 450 Nm from as low as 1500 rpm. This is mated with a seven-speed automatic with manual mode. In city work, the test Navara ST-X had fuel consumption of 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres, while on the open road clocked 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres. Navara is one of the few dual
cab models in its class to offer the ride comfort and capability of a five-link rear suspension with independent rear coil springs. SUMMARY Without too much sifting, the ST-X would appear to be the pick of the new Nissan Navaras for those wanting a versatile workhorse with the looks to hold its own against the flashier members of the highly competitive market segment.
