Unique Fabri Let collected textiles and vintage finds lead the way. We had some Shibori-like fabrics in our stash that were just begging to be transformed. In fact, this lovely collection was the driver behind our entire home refresh project. Take a look at what you have on hand, and supplement as needed. By marrying fabrics old and new, you’re guaranteed to create an eclectic vibe.

Inspiration is everywhere - collect yours as you find it! Print pictures of spaces you love. Clip swatches of favorite fabrics. Sort through memorabilia from trips and travels. All of these things provide excellent inspiration for a home refresh.
Tip: collect cards & contacts of local artists you love. Even if you’re not able to purchase their wares immediately, you can add them to your wish list. Handmade art always lends distinct personality to your space.
A WELCOMING
Entry
You only get one first impression – make it count! There are many easy updates you can make at the front door: take a look at your welcome mat, wreaths and door decorations, and any storage items that hold essentials. These are items that you can update and switch out frequently, with a little thought and ingenuity.
Dritz Quilting clear template plastic is the perfect material to make your own stencils. We imitated one of our Shibori fabric patterns to create a complementary welcoming door mat.
Tip: secure your stencil using pins, this way there is no movement when painting.
Storage that’s stylish! Use Dritz Home decorative nails to add fashionable details to basic storage bins.
Hello, friends & family. Welcome guests with door décor that is one-of-a-kind & on-trend. You can easily DIY a door hanging like this using Dritz Home cording & basic craft supplies.
Pillow
TALK
There really is no easier way to update a room than with new pillows. And the good news is, you can never have too many of them! Pillows that are no longer your favorites can move to the back of the pile, while those with new covers take premium position. Refreshing even just a couple pillows can give your whole collection an entirely new look.
Tip: mix store bought & DIY pillows for eclectic looks.
It’s easy to give outdated pillows a modern look, & it’s economical, too. Simply reuse the pillow insert & make a new pillow cover.
Mix pillow shapes & sizes to add interest. This bolster pillow looks great nestled with these other standard pillows.
Decorating with giant floor pillows instantly adds a modern vibe. Stack them in any room to create visual interest – & a comfy place to sit!
A large exposed zipper makes your pillow look professional & custom made. Tip: remove zipper teeth to provide a gap to stitch the end at the opening without damaging your needle.

Window
A quick home refresh wouldn’t be complete without mentioning curtains! Combined with a couple new pillows, new curtains really can transform a space. Plan the design of your curtains based on how much fabric you have. We used our Shiborilike fabric for the decorative band on our panels because our supply was limited.

The clean finish on the decorative band was easy to achieve using the “burrito” method to encase all seams.
Tip: if your shower curtain hooks don’t match your grommets, spray paint is your solution.
Table Decor
EASY
Charm guests who gather at your table with thoughtful accessories that contribute to the party. Placemats, napkin rings, runners and coasters can add much more than just function. When you DIY these pieces, you can carry that eclectic flair to the kitchen as well. Again, using bespoke fabrics and clever details is key.

Placemats are a blank canvas of sorts – the ideal place to add some flair to your table. Achieve texture by mixing materials like denim & rivets or leather & grommets. Simple hexis made with paper piecing shapes are full of impact.
Extra fabric makes a super bold statement as a table runner – simply drape it across your table.
Napkins are super easy to make & can liven up any table setting & every occasion.
Swoon. Dritz Home curtain grommets aren’t just for your curtains. Wrap them up with a decorative cable cord & you instantly have modern napkin rings.
Hexis made with excess fabrics & paper piecing shapes make great coasters. In fact, these were made from an old pair of jeans. Talk about a personalized look.

Wall décor does not need to be expensive. Or difficult. Again, it goes back to looking at items you’ve collected, and applying some simple techniques. Scrap fabrics have new life as works of art when housed in floating frames. The addition of greenery is always a win.
The perfect scrap buster - turn them into art! It’s hard to throw away fabric that you love, so why not frame it instead. Mixed with a few other items, you have a one-of-akind gallery wall.
Wall mobiles are the perfect no-sew project to fill empty space. There are so many design possibilities, you won’t want to stop making them.
