NHS DIGITAL LEAD PROGRAMME MANAGER Having started out as a diagnostic radiographer, Moira Crotty has spent the last 20 years procuring, implementing and managing imaging and diagnostic IT systems, on behalf of the NHS and private sectors. As a Programme Manager for NHS Digital she led the latter stages of the National PACS Programme. Moira is currently developing a toolkit for NHS Imaging services looking to move to networked operational models.
IT AND INFORMATICS TOOLKIT FOR IMAGING NETWORKS Provision of NHS imaging services using the model of a regional network has been a subject of growing interest in recent years. Achieving the objectives of such operational models is critically dependent on IT infrastructure and systems, both existing and new. NHS Digital is developing a toolkit to assist NHS Trusts in understanding and leveraging their existing environment, and potentially procuring new additional elements to meet the aims of their network.

REGULATION OF AI IN HEALTHCARE: WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT? AI holds tremendous promise for healthcare. Technologists frequently talk about ‘disrupting’ healthcare in the same way that technology has disrupted retail, communication, entertainment, and many other spheres of life. We are now seeing a culture clash, between the ‘move fast’ world of technology, and the ‘safety first’ world of medicine. What is the role of regulation in striking the right balance? What’s on the horizon? What should we, as patients and as clinicians, expect?

He has run a licensed GMP facility at King’s College London, since 2001, for the production of cell and gene therapy based investigational medicinal products. Farzin has extensive collaborations, including research council, charitable and pharmaceutical sponsorships of over £25M. He is appointed by the Commission on Human Medicines, as a member of the Clinical Trials, Biologicals & Vaccines Expert Advisory Group since 2016.
ADVANCED THERAPY MEDICINAL PRODUCTS (ATMPS) FOR ACHIEVEMENT OF DEEPER AND LONGER LASTING IMMUNE MEDIATED CANCER REMISSION Cell and gene based therapy of cancer is making major improvements to the treatment of cancer. The development of new strategies for the development of chimeric antigen receptor T cells, genetically modified cancer cell vaccines and therapeutic cancer vaccines for the specific induction of cellular immunity will be described. TUESDAY | THEATRE 12 GI, LUNG & IMUNO | 13.15
ROLE OF IKKα IN BREAST CANCER In this seminar Joanne Edwards will be discussing how Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive subtype of breast carcinoma with limited therapeutic options. IKKα, the main catalytic kinase in the NF-κB non-canonical pathway, may be a novel therapeutic target for treatment of TNBC as elevated levels of phosphorylated IKKα in TNBC specimens is associated with reduced cancer specific survival and treatment of TNBC cell lines with IKKα inhibitors results in reduced cell viability.
JOANNE EDWARDS PROFESSOR OF TRANSLATIONAL CANCER PATHOLOGY Professor Joanne Edwards obtained a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Glasgow followed by her PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of St Andrews. Her scientific career has included working as a Clinical Scientist in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, followed by a Senior Lecture in the Institute of Cancer Sciences University of Glasgow and more recently in January this year became a Professor of Translational Cancer Pathology.
TUESDAY | THEATRE 11 BREAST GU HEAD & NECK | 12.30
Dr James Flanagan, completed his PhD in Brisbane, Australia, and has pursued postdoctoral work in Cancer Genetics, Epigenetics and Cancer Epigenetics. After receiving the Breast Cancer Campaign Scientific Fellowship he is now a Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. He was awarded the BACR Translational Researcher Award and is the principal investigator for the OCA funded programme "Risk and Prevention".
EPIGENETIC BIOMARKERS FOR PLATINUM RESPONSE IN OVARIAN CANCER Platinum based chemotherapy is the standard of care for ovarian cancer patients at first line treatment and often at subsequent relapses. We have identified and validated an epigenetic biomarker detectable in blood DNA that predicts whether a patient should be treated with platinum after relapse. We propose a mechanism by which platinum-adduct DNA repair causes the epigenetic changes and that the genomic and epigenomic location of platinum adducts defines sensitivity.
WEDNESDAY | THEATRE 11 BREAST GU HEAD & NECK | 12.30
KHURUM KHAN RESEARCH-ACTIVE CONSULTANT He gained significant experience in the set-up and running of large multicentre academic and translational studies from the time that he spent in fulltime research, which included working as trial physician for phase II/III studies in early and advanced Colorectal Cancer sponsored by the industry and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
BIOMARKERS OF RESPONSE AND/OR RESISTANCE TO TARGETED THERAPIES IN REFRACTORY MCRC Liquid biopsies capture spatial and temporal heterogeneity underpinning resistance to targeted therapies in various cancers. Dense serial sampling is however needed to predict the time to treatment failure and generate a window of opportunity for intervention.
