The ROLBA unit only supplies air-mover type vacuum pumps. This gives the customer the added benefit of sucking material from greater depths. The technology also allows the ROLBA user to operate the machine in very cold winter conditions, whereas liquid ring vacuum pumps tend to have problems. The Medium Volume Combi has a fully opening rear door and a hydraulic tipping sludge tank. The tipping angle is up to 55 degrees. Therefore, with the combination of the stainless steel tank and the very steep tipping angle, no material is left in the debris tank. At the rear of the unit, ROLBA have mounted a fully flexible “manipulator arm” which makes life easier for the operator. This is controlled and operated from the radio remote control unit which is a standard piece of equipment with every ROLBA. On top of the tank, there is a cassette system which incorporates a 5” diameter hose x 17 meters which supplies the hose to the manipulator arm. The main control panel is made of stainless steel and is located at the left rear side of the machine with safety of the operator in mind. This control panel is also housed inside another stainless steel box. All the boxes and hose trays are made from highly polished stainless steel.
The new ROLBA Medium Volume Combination machine will be demonstrated live and will highlight why it’s the best machine on the market. The machine is the most flexible unit yet, offering the widest scale of options that make it perfect for deep suction sewers, heavy silt, clay slurry, septic tank emptying, sludge/effluent removal, interceptor cleaning, and much more. Including a 30 gallon per min jetter; nothing’s too big for this machine. CPJ gets the job done, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

HIDROSTAL HAVE REFINED OVER 20 ASPECTS OF THE BUILD SPECIFICATION FOUND IN PREVIOUS GENERATIONS, TO DELIVER EVEN MORE RELIABILITY AND EFFICIENT PERFORMANCE TODAY

FLOOD EXPO OCTOBER 2015
The great floods of 2014 delivered lessons to us all. Here in Hidrostal, as a direct response to some of the challenges encountered, we embarked on designing a 3rd generation of our mobile diesel pumping equipment called the SuperBetsy. SuperBetsy combines the benefits of 1st generation Betsy and 2nd generation Superhawk machines but with over 20 additional design refinements. One of the biggest challenges we encountered during and after the floods was the location of exact models to ensure service efficiency. During a crisis, equipment is moved from pillar to post and administration struggles to keep pace with activities on the ground. Tracking models is also essential for swift redeployment of correct sized machines as circumstances change, ensuring proportional pumping capacity is applied to each incident so getting the best use of resources. For these reasons, a more advanced control system has been introduced which incorporated GPS tracking and full remote monitoring. Fuel endurance is always vital; our low fuel consumption means less refuel visits, freeing up more time to exhausted staff during any emergency operation. In addition, new remote monitoring allows the possibility for more planned refuelling. Needless to say that the fundamental reliability of the diesel pumpset is paramount. That’s why Hidrostal have refined over 20 aspects of the build specification found in previous generations, to deliver even more reliability and efficient performance today.

his demonstration showcases different options for personal protective equipment (PPE) and explores rescue options for co-workers.
Increasingly employees are required to work within flooded areas maintaining infrastructure and protecting property and assets. Consequently these personnel are exposed to a number of hazards associated with deep and moving water, not to mention the contamination of the water itself. R3 Safety & Rescue Ltd. have established safety and operating procedures which include the use of personal protective equipment, training, and rescue procedures of colleagues when working in and near flood waters. This demonstration shows best practice during co-worker rescue while discussing the risk exposure to the rescuer. These include bank-based rescue options, tethered swimmer and paddle boat rescues. This demonstration shows just some of the content of flood operations training courses that ensure personnel are fully prepared to work in floods; that they understand the associated risks and have the knowledge and skills to remain safe and work effectively. We deliver a number of courses that are suitable for organisations whose employees need to work around or in floods in order to carry out functions such as sandbagging, creation of temporary flood defences, infrastructure maintenance, property inspection, etc.

COMBINING AERIAL, LAND AND HYDRO SURVEY DATA
With its shallow draft and high buoyancy, the Humber RIB allows us to enter shallow water accessing harder to reach places that conventional survey boats couldn’t. Using this as our main platform, we also use the SonarMite BTX echo sounder to collect the data; this equipment was specifically designed for shallow water surveying. By sending out a pulse every second it takes a depth reading, this is then GPS referenced and stored using the Leica Viva handset and GPS receiver. Our aim is to record a depth every 5 meters so by the end we make a 5x5m grid across the river bed.
T
he application of technology to create cutting edge products for the improvement of flood defence.
New technologies have improved the precision to which modern hydrographic and aerial surveys can be conducted; these advances are allowing the Environment Agency and other key organisations to make informed decisions concerning the protection of our coastal and inland waters. Combining hydrographic and aerial technology is cutting edge and enables the seamless transition between what sits above and below the water. The demonstration will show both disciplines working in complete harmony. The RIB will be used to demonstrate the latest sonar technology, and the unmanned air system (drone) will be launched from the RIB to capture above water imagery. In order to maintain our diverse environment for future generations we need
to continue to push the boundaries. These two technologies working together have multiple application from emergency flood deployment to long term data collection, enabling better flood and coastal erosion risk management. Geocurve Ltd is a team of specialist surveyors and highly skilled UAV/UAS operators, and who hold expert proficiency in engineering, site engineering, surveying, GIS database, 3D modelling, UAV/UAS operations, airborne surveillance and hydrographic modelling. Geocurve offer their adept service in hydrographical, topographical and inspection surveys, as well as providing highly skilled site engineers for a variety of projects either on a one-off or semipermanent contractor basis, with or without equipment. Amongst the clients to benefit from Geocurve’s renowned expertise are the Environment Agency, BAM Nuttall, Essex & Suffolk Water and Carillion.

FLOOD EXPO OCTOBER 2015
MAKING SENSE OF DATA As a result of flooding, recent commercial developments have triggered a plethora of data. This flood risk data needs to be simplified. The flood risk data market is now saturated with a complex web of providers, risk types, terrain models, flood depth variables, direction and velocity variables. This situation lends itself to different risks being reported by commercial providers for the same individual property. Therefore the ability for end users to interpret the data, understand its limitations and nuances and how to apply this in the real world is becoming increasingly important. Many commercial providers now package up various flood risk data
sources and present a risk summary at property specific levels in less than 24 hours. What is clearly missing in this refined market is plain English guidance on how these reports are compiled, their limitations and a clear understanding of the data powering them. This masterclass will simplify the complex web of providers, risk types, and reporting variables in the flood risk data market. It will be anchored by a timeline introducing key changes through the recent history and development of flood risk.
ABOUT LANDMARK Landmark provides unique flood, environmental and property due-diligence services for portfolios. We have access to the most comprehensive and complete flood, environmental and property data in the UK, and our experienced consultants use this to deliver a range of risk assessment services. Our flexible service allows us to take a portfolio through stages of risk identification, analysis and resolution, covering environmental issues such as contaminated land risk, flood risk, ground stability and energy and infrastructure.

GODIVA LTD.
PORTABLE PUMPS FOR FLOOD DEFENCE Godiva Ltd design and manufacture a range of portable, vehicle mounted and trailer mounted fire pumps.
On average 30% smaller in cubic volume than comparable products, the 12/10 and 17/10 are small enough to stow easily in a side locker, freeing up space to store other equipment and reducing the overall pay-load of the vehicle.
Godiva portable pumps are ideally suited for de-flooding. There are a range of sizes and performances to meet most needs. Starting with the Powerflow 8/5, with an operational weight of 78-81Kg (depending on specification), the 8/5 will deliver 1400 l/ min at 3 bar for dewatering and water relay operations.
Both units are powered by a Weber 2 cylinder, 4 stroke engine that provides 40kW of power for the 12/10 and 52kW for the 17/10, whilst also being highly fuel efficient – the 18 litre on board tank will allow 63 minutes running time at the rated performance. A remote 20 litre fuel tank will allow an additional 60-70 minutes running time. Both models are capable of running at a 30˚ inclination in any plane, useful for rugged terrain.
The Powerflow 12/10 and 17/10 are two compact portables with powerful performances. The 12/10 is capable of a maximum flow of 2150 l/min at 3 bar, while the 17/10 will achieve 2450 l/min at 3 bar. Both models are housed in a robust tubular frame of 677mm long x 525mm wide x 620mm high.
In addition to portable pumps, Godiva is able to supply a wide range of Hale skid and trailer mounted fire pumps with larger capacities and duration. Please ask the Godiva staff at the show for more details.

AGGERES NV
CUSTOMISED SOLUTIONS FOR FLOOD MITIGATION AGGERES is a Belgian based company which develops and markets flood protection solutions for both the private sector (industrial and households) and the public domain. AGGERES analyses the problems of flooding from the customers’ perspective and brings tailor-made solutions to market for the private sector and the public domain. Their solutions comprise both intervention material for emergency services and permanent or mobile solutions to protect infrastructure.
also makes a strong economic case; with zero operational costs the SCFB has none of the high, ongoing expenditure associated with manually operated systems. When not in use, the barrier is protected underground, sheltered from the elements. The system has already been installed worldwide.
A mainstay of their intervention material is the VELOX, a foldable and mobile dam to stop floodwater, deviate pipeline ruptures or waterways. It is already being used by fire brigades, water boards and chemical companies in both Belgium and the Netherlands.
Last year, in response to the rise in demand for movable flood barriers, AGGERES launched the Porta flood barrier for the private market. Porta is a made-to-measure flood barrier that can easily be snapped into place inside a door or window aperture to prevent water from entering.
Another great contributor to AGGERES’ success is the SelfClosing Flood Barrier (SCFB), an autonomous flood barrier which is activated solely by the pressure of upcoming floodwater. The SCFB is not only an extremely effective flood defence system, but
AGGERES is currently testing a new watertight, sectional gate which can be integrated into a very compact module and offers protection against floodwater up to a height of 4m. The new gate is expected to become commercially available mid-2016.

THE FLOOD NETWORK
CAN YOU SEE THE FLOODS COMING? Flood Network uses low-cost wireless sensors to improve knowledge of water levels, letting you find the causes of local flooding. The data that hydrologists use to create flood maps and predictions is scarce. Environmental change is leading to unpredictable behaviour in catchments, increased runoff and more frequent flooding events, but the data to model this isn’t keeping pace.
We work with hydrologists, civil engineers, local authorities, communities and rivers trusts to improve understanding of flooding Flood Network takes you to the places where flooding occurs: culverts, ditches, streams, and groundwater by using Internet of Things

technology to wirelessly gather level data in real-time, improving information on flood events and gathering valuable data for modelling. Our sensors are low-cost so can be deployed at a density that was previously uneconomical. They’re low-profile (about 100x80x80mm) so they can be installed in more locations. They run off a single battery, meaning low maintenance costs. The Oxford Flood Network project shows how our devices can collect data over consumer broadband and share this to build a live picture of water levels, even under floorboards. Our Flood Network product has a far greater reach, making it suitable for temporary deployments, catchment studies or flood alleviation schemes. We work with hydrologists, civil engineers, local authorities, communities and rivers trusts to improve understanding of flooding, allowing better modelling, prediction and response, so we’d love to talk to you at our stand and understand your needs.

IBS ENGINEERED PRODUCTS LTD
AUSTRIAN DANUBE FLOODING OF 2013 The spring of 2013 saw record rainfall levels in central Europe, causing extreme flood levels in Austria.
In fourteen Austrian towns, demountable IBS flood protection walls were deployed as protection against the oncoming Danube floods. One such wall in Linz, and at a length of almost one kilometre and measuring approximately 2,250m2, was erected with approx. 3,160 dam beams and approx. 310 posts. Once erected, the Danube flooding level of up to 3.50m above road level was resisted.
total wall area of 6,350m². The highest demountable wall was completed in December 2010 in Grein. With a total barrier height of 3.60m on a 1.0m-high base wall, the system protects the land behind it to a flood level of 4.60m at the upstream end of the site - a height which is equal to the upper storeys of the adjacent properties.
In June 2013, during the historic flood events, it was proven that the locations of Linz, Mauthausen, Naarn, Mitterkirchen, Baumgartenberg, Saxen, Grein, Ybbs, Persenbeug, Spitz, Oberarnsdorf, Rührsdorf, Weißenkirchen and Kloster Neuburg were able to successfully defend against the flood of the century through the deployment of a total of approximately 25,000m² of IBS demountable flood protection walls.
Due to the superb performance of the IBS systems, it was clear to the affected communities and onlookers that they could place maximum trust in their local defences
In Grein, flood levels peaked at around 5cm below the top of the barrier, just before it would’ve overflowed the 4.60m high protection wall.
Austria’s largest demountable flood protection system in terms of surface area was handed over in April 2010 in Weißenkirchen. Approx. 8,800 dam beams and associated posts are utilised, giving a

SANDLESS SANDBAGS IN ACTION WORLDWIDE
SANDLESS SANDBAGS IN ACTION WORLDWIDE When floods strike you have little time to act and local councils won’t come running with free sandbags. So you need to be ready all the time and one surefire way is with FloodSax sandless sandbags which go from resembling a pillowcase to a strong 20kg ‘sandbag’ in around 3 minutes. They are far easier to store, transport and deploy than traditional sandbags.
More than a million FloodSax have been sold worldwide and have been in action protecting hospitals, public buildings, businesses and homes. They are also incredibly efficient soaking up leaks in hard to reach places and our new AvSax has been designed to protect passenger airliners in a way you wouldn’t believe! The Hillblock represents a major advance in shoreline and river bank protection. It’s a highly innovative and unique revetment block that uses proven technology. The patented design of this concrete block is used to line slopes and significantly reduces the impact of waves and wave run-up compared to existing types of shore protection. The use of the Hillblock means that revetments require less, if any heightening. The block’s shape and mass not only make it cheaper to produce, but also make the slope more stable, which makes them better for the environment and easier to put in place. The development of the Hillblock represents a new standard in coastal protection.
The result: stronger dykes at lower cost.

INTOUCH LTD.
INTOUCH SMARTWATER SOLUTION InTouch SmartWater provides a self-learning autonomous gully management solution for reduced flooding and increased efficiencies.
Through innovative research and development projects, InTouch is at the forefront of gully management, providing the InTouch SmartWater solution which targets problems ahead of time with a proactive rather than reactive approach.
From the scenic shores of Morecambe Bay, InTouch supports a growing network of highways maintenance providers, focussing on gully maintenance and flood management.
The solution involves installation of discreet sensors into key gullies to monitor the water levels and silt levels allowing us to learn how gullies behave in different circumstances and locations. By combining
this information with a variety of data sources such as weather forecasts, tree map data and traffic behaviour through our SmartStreets Internet of Things Hub, we are able to model and provide predictions of gully state across the network. The solution currently provides predictions at around 70% accuracy but as more data is gathered and input into the models, this will improve to give a reliable and precise representation of the network. This information can be used to improve service delivery and bring cost and efficiency savings to the contract. By target cleaning only those gullies which need it, we anticipate savings of 80% over five years.
