This seminar will discuss research carried out by the IBM Institute for Business Value which explores how organisations in many industries can act to help older adults strengthen their social fabric and reconnect to others.

THURSDAY | 13.15 | THEATRE 9

Janet Seward Disabled Living Foundation Practical Advice for Independent Living Are we leaving it too late to get practical about independence? It is vital that people remain independent for as long as possible and continue to live in their own homes for a multitude of reasons. Early adoption of assistive technology and aids to independent living is key, but why are so many people in crisis before they start to research the options? How can easier access to information and advice play a role in enabling the societal change that is needed? DLF manages the leading comparison site equipment for daily living, “Living Made Easy”, Janet will share DLF’s experiences and insights from running this important service.

WEDNESDAY | 15.30 | THEATRE 3

If you want to gain an in depth understanding of the disability sector, then you need to listen to the people who are redefining the current and future outlook of independent living, as well as those who - despite living with a disability - have gone on to conquer the world over. And these phenomenal people, among many others, will be speaking at this year’s Naidex!

Angela Whelan & Dorothy Liviabella Santander Banking Services to Support Independent Living This seminar will provide an overview of how banking services can support independent living. As the first bank to launch an entire network of talking ATMs, Santander will explain how this has supported those with visual impairments. Paul Smith Foundations DFG Champions – Improving Delivery of the Disabled Facilities Grant DFG Champions is a network of professionals from across the country who are committed to improving the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). THURSDAY | 13.15 HOME, DESIGN & BUILD SUMMIT 10

Vaila Morrison The Inclusive Home

Jack Eyers Mr England

Shouldn’t All Homes Be Inclusive? The home design media lacks coverage of ideas and inspiration for accessible design. Although some design trends, like open plan living, hint at inclusive design principles, this is rarely mentioned (or celebrated) as being of value. In this seminar, Vaila expresses her desire to see this change, to see fantastic examples of accessible homes featured on TV makeover shows and in homestyle magazines, so that disabled people and their families are presented with inspirational examples of how fantastic their homes can be!

THURSDAY | 14.45 HOME, DESIGN & BUILD SUMMIT 10

Power of a Role Model At age 16, Jack had his leg amputated above the knee. Since then he has been fighting to change the perception of disability and create a strong image of disabled people in the media. More recently he was crowned Mr England 2017/19, has been featured on the cover of Men’s Health magazine and was the first amputee to walk on the New York Fashion Week Catwalk. In Jack’s seminar he will talk about the power of a role model; and how important it is to have an inspirational figure in your life to give you hope.

THURSDAY | 11.00 | THEATRE 4

Cerebra is a charity dedicated to helping families and their children with neurological conditions. The Cerebra Innovation Centre (CIC) is a bespoke product design service offered by national charity Cerebra to its members. This seminar will take the form of a case study review of three CIC products; a seated tandem surfboard; triathlon equipment which enables a young girl to participate with her father; and a horse riding helmet for a young man with a unique head shape, plus a small overview of the work Cerebra does.
