Making Land Remediation Enforcement Effective

EL PAN ION S S E S

The Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) will be launching a new report setting out industry concerns over the lack of rigorous enforcement of contaminated land procedures and regulations, and making proposals for creating an effective enforcement system that would help the industry thrive and deliver consistent outcomes for the industry whilst maintaining public health protection. Come and discover more in this insightful seminar.

Building the Wastewater Treatment Works of the Future Peter’s presentation will focus on Severn Trent’s ambitious plans to demonstrate an energy-neutral, materials-recovery wastewater treatment flowsheet. He’ll discuss anaerobic sewage treatment and the company’s plans to build an anaerobic membrane bioreactor at Severn Trent’s new test-bed facility in Redditch. This test-bed will also be used to evaluate technologies that will allow valuable materials to be recovered from sewage; including cellulose, bio-plastics and nutrients. Peter will explore Severn Trent’s collaborative research in this area.

The Hidden Danger of Unsafe Products: Using Asbestos Unknowingly

Chemical Investigations Programme: Where are we now?

Despite the EU-wide asbestos ban, you can still come across easily bought, newly-manufactured products containing asbestos daily. Recent examples include talc powder, makeup, crayons and industrial spraying grit. Clearly, asbestos is still used in manufacturing, even within the EU. How can this be possible? Should we expect a new wave of asbestos victims related to household goods and industrial products? How can we prevent this? Yvonne and Jasper delve into this serious matter.

The water industry has been collaboratively delivering the Chemical Investigations Programme since 2010, furthering our understanding of the occurrence and fate of substances in sewage. We can characterise sewage effluent and have tested a number of existing and novel treatment technologies to understand their removal performance and costs. Over this time period we have also seen a decline in the concentrations of certain substances. However, new substances of concern are emerging which need further investigation.

Unexploded Ordnance: A 20th Century Challenge for Your 21st Century Site

Determination of Radiological Exposure to the Public Around UK Nuclear Sites

The Status of the Sentinel-5 Precursor Mission & First Results

In this seminar, Aaron will highlight how unexploded ordnance still carries a risk and why it is still being discovered in the 21st Century. He will also touch on what UXO risk mitigation companies are doing to combat the risk with the use of 21st Century technology.

Major nuclear sites in the UK are licensed to discharge radionuclides into the environment and in addition to imposing an offsite environmental monitoring programme, a check programme is also undertaken by the regulators. The seminar introduces the way those people who by the nature of their habits are potentially the most exposed & how they help focus an appropriate radiological programme.

Here, Claus provides updates on the Sentinel-5 Precursor mission - the first atmospheric Copernicus mission; launched on 13 October, 2017. The mission provides daily global information at unprecedented spatial resolution on trace gases and aerosols important for air quality, climate forcing and the ozone layer. The only payload of the mission is the TROPOMI instrument, which is a nadir pushbroom spectrometer capable of measuring key atmospheric constituents, including: O3, NO2, CO, SO2, CH4, CH2O, aerosols and clouds.

Asbestos Sector SNVQ Challenge: The ACAD/CITB Solution for Everyone

Muck away: The Classification & Removal of Waste Soils

Developing Your Plan for Accidents & Environmental Emergencies

The implementation of the CLC decision by the asbestos sector has created a huge challenge for the licensed asbestos sector. CITB, the recognised standard-setting body for the asbestos sector, realised this and invited bids from the sector to solve this issue. Find out how the winning ACAD solution opens the flood gates for S/NVQ achievement across the sector by LARC’s in-house, or via IATP/ UKATA, whilst crucially, ensuring standards.

Clients, main contractors, groundworkers and hauliers all have a duty of care to ensure that their construction and demolition waste is classified and disposed of correctly, yet many are still falling short of their legislative requirements. This seminar dispels some common “muck away” myths and discusses how doing things right can reduce risk and cost.

We all know that accidents happen – even when we take the greatest care. But when those accidents involve chemicals or environmental damage, you’re putting lives in danger and you’re at risk of prosecution and a heavy fine. Tony’s seminar discusses typical causes of accidents and environmental emergencies, and best-practice-planning to manage your risk and maintain credibility.

LIQUID LEVEL SENSORS

Sometimes, you have to be in it to win it. Improved level measurement dependability plus reduced lifetime costs from our innovative non-stick conductive sensor.

When measuring the levels of challenging liquids such as effluent, colloids, sludge, acidic fluids or contain suspended solids or flocculant, a common assumption is to use a level sensor that does not come into contact with the fluid. This is not always a panacea for reliable measurement; there can be shortcomings with non-contact sensors that can lead to measurement unreliability or inaccuracy. For example, being affected by surface turbulence & foaming, false echoes, humidity and fogging. Gill has engineered a non-stick liquid level sensor to provide reliable and accurate measurement for difficult liquids. The ingenious and exclusive design can eliminate the shortcomings of non-contact sensors, without any regular cleaning or maintenance despite being immersed in fluid.. Visit us on stand 5P65 at the Waste Water Expo to learn more about better measurement of the most difficult liquids.

DENDRO-SCOTT™ Root Barrier, recognised by the Environment Agency, is known for its quality and reliability. It is flexible and adaptable, specified for all types of projects, from the very large, including new builds, to small residential projects. It can be easily jointed on site, using double-sided butyl tape. It is an excellent and proven way to protect structures and services from damage from tree roots and Japanese Knotweed. It comes in 26 stock sizes, from a small 1m x 10m roll, up to a 30m x 30m sheet.

DENDRO-SCOTT™ Root Barrier is used in various ways: VERTICALLY:

HORIZONTALLY:

To prevent lateral intrusion of roots and rhizomes, to protect underground services and to prevent ingress from neighbouring sites.

To protect buildings and surfaces from vertical intrusion of roots and rhizomes, this includes installation below foundations.

‘CELL’:

SERVICES: Wrapped with root barrier membrane, to protect underground services.

To avoid the very expensive process of transportation of contaminated soil to a waste facility, licensed for Japanese Knotweed. To comply with Environment Agency guidelines on root spread of Japanese Knotweed, the quantities of spoil can be extremely significant. With a ‘Cell’, soil is retained within the site, reburied and completely sealed within a ‘Cell’ of DENDRO-SCOTT™ Root Barrier.
