I noticed that property along Old Oak Ridge Road next to the airport is being cleared. Is something being built there?
We’ve also noticed the work, and contacted Kevin Baker, executive director of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority to find out what’s going on there. Baker explained that workers are clearing the property to improve visibility for airplanes approaching Runway 23L.
The work is underway at the northeastern corner of the airport’s property that’s bounded by Old Oak Ridge Road. On the other side of the road, crews operating bulldozers and other equipment are knocking down trees and other growth, putting them in big piles and grinding them into chips.
The clearing runs along a half-mile stretch of Old Oak Ridge Road between Inman and North Chimney Rock roads.
“Scrub trees have grown up in that area following work done there about 10 years ago,” Baker said in an email earlier this week. “This project is to remove those trees before they become obstructions.” ... continued on p. 18

What’s going into the huge building located on N.C. 68 between Leabourne Road and Pleasant Ridge Road?
The 220,000-square-foot structure you see near the Oak Ridge town limits on N.C. 68 is owned and being built by Greensboro’s Samet Corporation, which is in the process of leasing it out.
According to Brian Hall, director of development for the company, the building will be used for industrial purposes including distribution, assembly and light manufacturing. Hall added that the United States Postal Service is slated to occupy the building and several other prospects are looking at the space.
Scheduled to be complete by the end
