Luke Monday, drum major for Northwest Guilford High School’s marching band, shows his patriotism on “America Day,” one of the themes for Spirit Week held earlier this month as part of the band’s summer camp. Vikings band members have been practicing in the sizzling summer heat since the end of July – fi ve days a week, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – to learn the music and moves that will make their halftime performance at home football games dazzling. Besides performing at football games this fall, the band will be performing in band competitions and is very excited about performing at the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii this December.

Students M.A.D. (Making a Difference)
Northwest Guilford High School (NWHS) senior Meghan Greenly started volunteering with HorsePOWER Therapeutic Leaning Center last fall and to date has logged about 250 volunteer hours with the program. As she sets her sights on becoming an occupational therapist, Meghan is committed to making a difference in her community. After getting approval from NWHS principal Ashley Young and HorsePOWER, Meghan started fundraising to help with the expenses of offering HorsePOWER’s program to those at her school who are served by Guilford County Schools’ Exceptional Children Services program, which offers services to students with disabilities.
As part of her fundraising efforts, Meghan has arranged to bring two food trucks to the school’s first home football game of the season this Friday, Aug. 20, when Northwest will take on East Forsyth; each truck has agreed to donate a portion of their sales to help raise money for EC students to participate in HorsePOWER.
