Since 2006, Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network (RDFARN) has been dedicated to fostering animals of all kinds – dogs, cats, goats, snakes, emus, horses and more – as they’ve sought to place them in permanent, loving homes. At last count, the nonprofit had rehomed over 4,000 animals while growing into one of the largest animal rescues in North Carolina.
That’s quite an accomplishment for this Stokesdale-based nonprofit, and one that relies on donations from businesses and individuals as well as fundraisers.
On Friday evening, Sept. 23, Red Dog Farm will host its first ever Casino Night, which will feature fun games in which attendees can “win” tickets to enter a raffle for great prizes.
For those who don’t know how to play, “dealers” will be on hand to offer lessons.
Not into the games? Other activities throughout the evening will include a reverse raffle and a scavenger hunt. And, there will be plenty of appetizers and drinks to keep everyone satisfied.
The event will be held at Elm & Bain, Greensboro’s newest event venue. Located at 620B S Elm St. in downtown Greensboro, the historic venue is tucked inside the former Blue Bell Co. plant.
Lauren Riehle, RDFARN’s executive director, said she is excited about the upcoming event and the potential the fundraiser will offer for caring for even more rescued animals. “Like all rescues, we are getting bombarded by animals that need help and our costs are increasing on a daily basis,” Riehle said. “The bottom line is that we need more funds to take care of as many animals as possible.
All proceeds from the event will be used to help fund the rescue and rehoming of animals in the community.

Plus, there will be five drink and dessert trucks. The amusement company will also be selling traditional carnival food such as cotton candy and funnel cakes.
“Staffing for the food vendors was an issue last year – and it still is – but we should be in better shape this year,” Floss said.
Food choices on Thursday evening will be more limited, he added, but there will still be pizza, hot dogs, burgers, and treats for sale from local vendors including Kona Ice and To the Moon and Back.
There will also be an expanded area this year for diners to sit down, relax and enjoy their food under the shade of a large tent.
Providing ample parking for such a large crowd is always a challenge, but once again, Floss said he and other volunteers have worked to make improvements this year.
Floss offered appreciation to the Merchants of Oak Ridge members who paid to sponsor this year’s RidgeFest, to the many event volunteers, and to the festival’s community partners, Summit Church-Oak Ridge, Lowes Foods and Bank of Oak Ridge.
He also noted the event wouldn’t be possible without MOR’s partnership with the Town of Oak Ridge.
“Special thanks to the town for paying for the fireworks display on the last night of the event, and to Oak Ridge’s Parks and Recreation director, Terry Lannon, for his support in preparing the park for the event (and all the ‘un-preparing’ afterward) and coordinating the flyover on Saturday evening,” Floss said.
Speaking of the fireworks display – it’s on schedule for Saturday evening, around 8:30 (at dark). But don’t rush off when it’s over, because the rides, food trucks and live music will still be going on until 10 p.m.
