The PSME - WRSA Toastmasters Club of Jeddah has actively participated in almost all the toastmasters activities from club, area, division to the culminating activity, the first ever District Toastmasters Annual Conference (DTAC) which was held at Batterjee Medical College, North Obhur, Jeddah, K.S.A. on 17th & 18th of May, 2012. One of the highlights of the DTAC was the presence of the 1994 World Champion in Public Speaking, Dr. Morgan MacArthur who flew his way from the United States of America (U.S.A.) to grace the occasion .

President’s Message Greetings to all! With the successful re-launching of Jeddah PriME MovErs’ first issue for this year (thanks to the untiring efforts of IT Director Engr. Joel A. Santos), again I welcome everyone to this years’s second issue.

I, myself, after being out of TM for quiet sometime, has felt the need for our members to continue supporting our Toastmasters Club. The club itself has given respect and honor to PSME WRSA through its community service activities.
We conducted the first sports activity for this year at Sarawat International through the efforts of Engr. Cris C. Ortiz (Sports Director) and initiated by Engr. Joseph Mar D. Adrias (newly appointed PRO). The games played were Billiard and Table Tennis. Every one had a chance to physically unwind and relax after the hectic schedules brought about by the previous activities. Let us congratulate all the winners among the participants in each game. As we continue our dedication to serve the members, programs on professional education, skills enhancement and livelihood will be announced as soon as something is finalized. Our leadership and personality development program (through the PSME WRSA Toastmasters Club) is continuously encouraging members to experience the big change in their personal-

“Green Material Construction Concerning EPS” By: Engr. Ace Glen B. Garcia, LEED Green Assoc., AMIMechE, RME, PCO
Is Expanded Polystyrene a Green Product? Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is typically used in buildings as insulation, or as insulating concrete forms (ICF). It is a closed - cell, tough foam made from polystyrene beads. EPS is a green building product because it offers energy efficiency, recycled content, mold resistance and indoor environmental quality. What are Green characteristics of EPS? First, EPS is a Green building product because it is used as insulation which improves a buildings energy efficiency. EPS is shown to have a long term, stable R-value. A 2009 national study found that EPS provides a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when used to insulate homes in North America. EPS is made from mostly recycled materials and is 100% recyclable. One study found that when compared to fibreglass insulation, it requires 24% less energy to produce EPS insulation with an equivalent R-value at a representative volume.
Green Building Design and Construction 2009 LEED Materials: A Resource Guide to Green Building
Additionally, EPS resists mold growth, which improved indoor environmentally quality. It is also flame - retardant with no CFCs or HCFCs. EPS can be manufactured locally which reduces the energy use and cost of transportation. Also, some EPS applications can reduce on - site construction waste and labor costs. EPS/ Insulating Concrete Forms and LEED Certification Leadership in Energy and Environmental design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system. The LEED rating systems measure performance in many areas of sustainability, such as energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and use of environmentally friendly materials and resources. Several EPS structural system applications like insulating concrete forms (ICFS) and structural insulation panels (SIPS) are commonly recognized by LEED as providing key environmental advantages. EPS and its derivative products may contribute to the following credits in the LEED for New Construction 2009 rating system. 1.

In his presentation, Dr. Morgan MacArthur cheerfully shared his first experience with toastmasters. He said that the best learning experience happened to him when he pushed himself towards his limits and staying away from his comfort zone. To become an effective and successful public speaker, his advise is to take note of the following in preparing and delivering a speech: purpose, personal, powerful, passion and practice. He said, "It made me realized that the only thing that can kill our purpose is us!” Be persistent! Harness your power in persistence because that is our Horsepower!

Non Destructive Testing and Welding Applications April 20, 2012 (Friday): The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers Western Region Saudi Arabia, Jeddah Chapter conducted a technical seminar on Non Destructive Testing and Welding Applications at the New Al Jedaani Hospital Lecture Room in Ghulail District, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The resource speaker, Mr.Wayne Wingle, is from Liverpool, England. He manages a welding training department at a technical institute in Jeddah, worked internationally on all manors of welding projects. During the morning session, Mr. Wingle introduced the welding codes, design and process including the types of weld imperfections and their causes. Later in the afternoon session, he exposed the members of the PSME-WRSA to the types of inspection such as Visual, Dye Penetrant, Radiographic, Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic Inspection. "Great to see such an impressive turnout, given it is most hard working engineers on day off. I thoroughly enjoyed conducting this lecture and being able to assist the PSME gives me great satisfaction and I look forward to being able to assist them again in the future." This is the testimonial given by Mr. Wingle as he finishes the technical seminar for PSME-WRSA. Such Technical seminar like this is in line with PSME-WRSA's Mission Statement which maintains the integrity and promotes excellence of mechanical engineering profession by constantly updating their knowledge and skills through seminars and workshops. It also contributes to the enhancement of science and technology and most of all foster cordial, harmonious fellowship and cooperation among mechanical engineers globally. The seminar was headed by the current president of PSME-WRSA Jeddah Chapter, Engr. Napoleon M. Cepriaso, who is very energetic and active. In his welcome address he said: “For some of you, this may be of good start in pursuing a new career or profession in the field of welding inspection. The demand for this trade is high especially with the current trend in construction here in the Middle East. While this short seminar will not make you an expert, at least you will be guided on how to start or where to start should you choose to pursue in this field. “ The event was coordinated by Engr. Website Launching Also, the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers - Western Region Saudi Arabia (PSME -WRSA) Jeddah Chapter launched their website www.psme-wrsa.org last month March 2012. More over 30 different countries including USA, Canada, France, UK, Australia, MENA Region, India, Pakistan, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines visited the site. The site had forums, seminar and workshop announcements, a lot of mechanical and green building information for this year's theme "Mechanical Engineering Towards Economic Priorities in Renewable and Sustainable Energy", OFW guides, and making ongoing development for further technological enhancement. In this way Filipino Mechanical Engineers not only in Jeddah Saudi Arabia but also around the world will be recognized by their professional skills, talents and abilities. Power cable plays the major role in electric power distribution. A power Cable is a set of two (2) or more insulated conductor assembled together to transmit electric power.

Full application of thermoset insulation (XLPE, EPR, etc) in low and medium voltage cables up to 66 KV. For higher voltages, paper is still being used as the king of insulating materials inspite of experimental trials of XLPE in vertical towers.

POWER CABLE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES DRAWING: For copper, 8mm diameter conductor will pass through a set of dies while being cooled by a lubricant to get the required smaller diameter. For a soft drawn requirement, the copper rod will pass through the annealer. It will be collected in a spool or a basket depending on the cable that will be produced.
Rigid Strander EXTRUSION: The extrusion process is referring to insulation, bedding and sheathing. The stranded conductor will be insulated using various plastic compounds like PVC, XLPE, etch. based on their application. Bedding is made to protect the insulated conductor from armouring materials. Sheathing usually refers as the protective outside layer coasting cables. Drawing Unit of Drawing Machine
STRANDING: Stranding is a process of grouping together the drawn conductor. The cross-sectional area should be circular in shape for round compacted conductor following a desired lay direction and lay length. For example, if we will strand 7 wires, 1 wire will be the center wire and the other 6 wires will surround the center wire forming a circular shape. See figure1. In some cable design, sectoral shape was desired was desired to be used in another application. See figure 2.

Based on the type of cable to be produced, set of insulated conductors were assembled. For round shaped insulated conductors, polypropylene (PP) filler is used to form a circular shape cable.
All underground cables especially those laid direct to the ground are armoured with steel tapes or wires in order to protect them from mechanical stress and damages.

Invest Hard-Earned Money in Hard Money By: Engr. Napoleon M. Cepriaso, PME
In times of financial crisis, traditional investments are always vulnerable to bankruptcy or loss of its value in various degrees. This is mainly because these investments are in fiat money. Fiat money is a currency declared by a government to be legal tender. It is not backed by a physical commodity and has its value solely because a government accepts it for payments of taxes and debts. Money is product of markets. Currency is created by governments. Currency is NOT money, but merely represents money. Money is gold and silver, currency is just a paper that represents value stored somewhere else. Virtually, almost all of the world’s currency today is fiat money (no longer backed by gold or silver). Where do you invest then? Investing in hard money is one. What is hard money? The most common hard money is platinum, palladium, gold, and silver. Platinum and palladium were as old as the earth, but they are as new as the iPhone in the investment world. Platinum and palladium are two of the six platinum group metals (PGMs). The four other PGMs; osmium, iridium, ruthenium and rhodium have far smaller markets and not practical vehicles for investment at this time. These six metals share important chemical and physical properties useful in industrial applications. Ruthenium and rhodium are popular in jewelry. Platinum and palladium have catalytic properties which can accelerate certain chemical reactions, are good electrical conductors, and performs well in high-temperature applications. These two PGMs are vital input in antipollutant catalytic converters in automobiles, which can convert up to 90% of the exhaust gases into less harmful emissions. They are also used in dentistry, medicine, computer, in some electronics, ground water treatment and many other chemical applications. Gold, as everyone know, is a major and most popular precious metal currently traded in the world, physically and in the futures market. It can be recycled and reused. It has been known to be a good hedge against inflation. Evidently, gold has been a store of financial value and means of exchange since such a concept came into human consciousness at least 6000 years ago. Due to its vast use in jewelry and industrial applications, the demand is consistently high for this precious metal. Gold has backed some major currencies in the world. It is, and always has been money. Today’s troubled monetary system which no longer has gold as a foundation, has turned this precious metal into an investment. Gold has increased in value over long periods of time against all currencies. Today, gold prices are going up and expected to break the $2000 ceiling mark as the demand is getting higher and the world supply is depleting. Although there are speculations of hitting the $10000-mark, most traders and speculators are still skeptical on this. Silver is a poor man’s gold yet may offer the richest return. As precious metals (hard money) continue to recover its position as core assets in the investment world, silver has a greater potential for appreciation than gold. Its cost per ounce is a small fraction of the price of gold, and yet it is more scarce than gold. Investment demand for silver is a small fraction of that of gold, and yet no central bank has notable reserves that could be dumped on the market to suppress its price, which is in the case with gold. Having lower price than any other precious metals, silver can be an attractive option for investors. An article below provided some tips on investing in silver. The media and financial press rarely, if ever, covers silver, and yet silver is quite likely in the intermediate stage of a bull market that will rival or surpass that of the 1970s. A year ago, silver price soared as high as $50/oz. before experiencing a brief correction that took it back down to $30/oz. Still silver is looking extremely bullish than gold for a number of reasons and many traders are expecting prices to double or even tripe in 2012. Why Silver looks Bullish? The lead and zinc mines contribute to silver supply since the white metal is often a by-product of these mines. And with investment in lead and zinc mines diminishing, supplies will also dwindle. Add in the increasing demand from industry and investment sectors, one can see a clear supply issue developing in the coming future. Firstly, the gold/silver ratio. This is one of the best indicators of how far silver prices can move. If you average out the price ratio between gold and silver throughout history, you land on a single magical proportion: 16 to 1. That implies that at $1600 per ounce gold, silver should be $100 per ounce. Gold is currently trading at $1640 an ounce and silver is at $30, which projects that the ratio is now 54. Silver is massively undervalued right now and that gives it much more upside potential than gold. A large portion of silver demand (80%) comes from fabrication, which is expected to rise about 3% to 5% this year to roughly 900 million ounces. China's manufacturing expansion and an increased electronics industry demand. Current monetary policy increasing investors' appetite for silver and triggering a subsequent price rise. Emergence of Shanghai Futures Exchange. Chinese investors now have an opportunity to trade silver from home, which will spur rising prices. Investors have shown great interest since trading began. Trading silver futures was previously less convenient for investors in China. Their only options were using international markets or trading indirectly via local Chinese markets. There has been an absence of a means of trading in silver in China. The market will be bigger and more liquid with the advent of these futures contracts. Manipulation in the silver market is currently depressing prices - but it won't be for long. The manipulators will stop and silver prices will then increase in an open market. The silver manipulation has created cheaper prices than usual, making silver a good buy. Future mining of this metal is limited, because there are fewer chances of the metal being found deep underground and also because it is uneconomical to mine it. Because of this more silver is used annually than is mined. Demand for silver in technology and industries is only going to increase and this will cause an increase in price. There is no substitute for silver in almost all products that it is used in. Silver cannot be confiscated by the US government as gold bullion can. What kind of silver should you buy? If you are buying silver for investment purposes, you should avoid silver jewelry because you will lose money due to fabrication charges. Instead, you will find better value for the money that you invest if you purchase in any of the following: Government minted bullion coins. Junk silver coins, so called because they have no collectible value, are usually 90% silver and less liable to be damaged. Bullion bars, which are 99% pure silver. Silver rounds, which are also 99% pure silver. So, you can safely invest and buy silver, but from a reputable source or silver dealer.

The PSME - WRSA Toastmasters Club conducted a Community Base Project whereas a group of 25 students from the International Philippine School of Jeddah (IPSJ) undergone an eight (8) weeks session training on developing Communication and leadership skils under the Toastmasters International - Youth Leadership Training Program.
The PSME - WRSA Toastmasters Club completed its third Youth Leadership Program (YLP) at International Philippine School of Jeddah (IPSJ). The Program aimed to instill in the students the importance of public speaking and leadership skills. The program consisted of eight workshop - style sessions that let the participants develop their potential through practical experience. They will use the speaking and leadership skills for the rest of their lives. The program was partially sponsored by Groupe Genoyer, a French company in piping project management. The officers and members of the Toastmasters Club started the program this year with the support and assistance of IPSJ school principal Dr. Reinita Respicio and High School coordinator Rosgen Gumban.

TM Dennis I. Oppus, YLP Coordinator shared some of his experiences during his first encounter with the Toastmasters Club. When the Toastmaster of the day asked him to speak in front of an audience for the first time. He said, “He felt a crocodile in his chest. Since then, he developed his confidence in Public Speaking. The students were treated to witness a speech demo, showing one of the Toastmasters deliver a speech. After that, TM Edwin Advincula gave a clear demonstaration on how to become a speech evaluator.

The PSME - WRSA TMC in this term, not only made it on print media and aired on T.V. but also established feats well beyond history. It got the fourth consecutive President Distinguish Award (TM Greg Gulmatico 2008 - 2009, TM Jaime L. Leviste (2009 - 2010), TM Dennis I. Oppus (2010 - 2011) and TM Cris C. Ortiz (2011 - 2012) and the third consecutive “Perfect 10 DCP Goals”. During the Presidency of TM Joey Arellano (2005 - 2006), PSME - WRSA TMC also bagged the President Distinguish Award. This term is special and memorable in terms of achieving success. We have TM Glenn O. Orlina, Jr. confirmed and awarded his DTM status, and a number of Educational and Leadership milestones such as TM Jonathan Radan (ACB ALB), TM Mahamat Yosuf Zeni (ACB - CL) and TM Abdarahman Adodou (ACB - CL). We were able to add four new Competent Communicators, with TM Joel A. Santos heading the group of recipients. Joint ventures with the PSME - WRSA for sports and physical development was carried out for two occasions.

have been forecasted to complete 10 DCP goals before the year 2012 ends. Possible? Yes, as long as the mother chapter throws its support in every undertakings, it would be a reality. A propose Fourth Youth Leadership Training Program (YLTP) is expected to kick-off early for the school year 2012 - 2013 for the Filipino Community here in Jeddah, as we are receiving positive feedbacks and reaction from the community as a whole. We are looking forward for two groups of high school students who would be target beneficiaries.

Cris C. Ortiz and coordinated by Engr. Joseph Mar D. Adrias (PRO) . The sports events played are billiard and Table Tennis. The PSME - WRSA Jeddah Chapter conducted this sports activity to develop friendship and camaraderie among the officers and the members of the society. This is the time when we have to call time - out from our other activities especially from our
