The need to speak out and stay safe

Reptile Awareness Week 21st – 29th October

ARK Wildlife Park, the UK’s first rescue zoo, is celebrating National Reptile Awareness Day with a weeklong event that is designed to educate and inspire audiences of all ages. The event also coincides with the arrival of a new member of the ARK family. A 4ft long Morelet’s crocodile, also known as the Mexican crocodile, that will be coming from a conservation centre in Kent. The Morelet’s crocodile is a modestly sized species found only in fresh waters of the Atlantic regions of Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. The event will focus on the well-being and proper care of reptiles and communicating a greater understanding of reptiles and why they are generally unsuitable to be kept as family pets. Conservation and rescue are always at the top of our agenda. Visitors will be invited to enjoy close encounters and fascinating facts as they are led through the captivating collection by our resident reptile experts. They will discover some of the worlds’ most exotic and misunderstood animals and it is our hope they will leave the park with a sympathetic respect for these striking and intriguing creatures. Reptile Awareness Week at the ARK promises to be a mesmerizing experience of education and interactions, not to be missed. arkwildlifepark.co.uk

This Half Term holiday enjoy a memorable experience amidst the beautiful autumn trees at Wild Pines Park near Market Rasen. As well as a great day out for families and friends we work with schools and colleges from around the region and we are happy to plan programmes to suit your needs. For schools we typically offer a day of activities including ropes course, archery and a treasure hunt at a discounted rate. The day starts at 10am and finishes at about 3pm with a short break for lunch. It provides rapid and effective team building as participants learn to rely on each other in an outdoor adventure context. The best size for schools is between 20 and 50 students split into two groups (although we can take more), with one group on the ropes course in the morning whilst the second takes on the other challenges, swapping over after lunch. Workshops run all year round. We offer English and maths workshops for students of any ability aged 5 to 17 supporting the work of the national curriculum as well as specialist 11+ and GCSE preparation courses. Did you know that in every primary school class, an average of at least two children have suffered abuse or neglect? It is a shocking statistic but thanks to the NSPCC’s Speak Out Stay Safe service, children are being empowered to speak out and seek help. It delivers essential safeguarding information to children aged four to 11 in a lively, memorable way. Child-friendly, interactive assemblies and workshops teach children about abuse in all its forms and how to spot the signs. The service also helps children understand who they can turn to for help, including the NSPCC’s Childline service. It is delivered by specially trained volunteers who know how important it is for children to have this knowledge. The service spoke to 1,711,275 children in 7,756 schools across the UK throughout 2016/17. Now the NSPCC needs your help to reach even more children. By signing up to become a volunteer for Speak Out Stay Safe, you can help the NSPCC change lives by delivering these vital assemblies and workshops. For more information on becoming a volunteer in your local area, please visit www.nspcc.org.uk/volunteer or call 0121 227 7577

instructors will be watching from either afar or up close throughout to help and assist anyone that may need it. We also have a superb archery range suitable for all the family. The session lasts between 45 minutes to an hour, with loads of arrows, lots of rounds, tuition, practice, competition and prizes. Its like the Olympics, slightly lower standards but definitely more fun! The treasure hunt takes place across the whole site. Find the clues to unlock the padlock to the treasure chest and take home your treats. Great for all ages from young to old. We have two maps to complete, one is easy and one is very hard. Finish the red course (easy) for the prize and negotiate the blue (hard) course in the time limit to get onto our wall of fame!
