THE ALGARVE ! Golf in the Algarve is an unforgettable experience. The Algarve has over 40 golf courses of exceptional standard and a fantastic year round climate making it one of the leading golf destinations in the world. Algarve boasts a fantastic Mediterranean climate with an annual average of 3000 sunshine hours one of Europe’s sunniest places, sunnier even than California. With the Mediterranean to the east and the Atlantic to the west, golf courses on the Algarve’s eastern coast are generally hotter and drier than those to the west. Inland golf courses are also hotter than costal ones. The Algarve region covers the southernmost portion of Portugal. The mountains that separate the north and south of Portugal afford the south some protection from north winds and those coming over from the Atlantic. These winds are cool and rain-bearing so the south of Portugal is much warmer and drier than the north. Winter lasts from December till February temperatures are very mild with an average high temperature of 16ºC (60ºF) in December and February which drops just slightly to 15ºC (59ºF) in January. It rarely gets down to freezing though further from the coast it can dip down and frosts can occur at night but gusts of hot wind blowing up from Africa; even in Winter bringing temperature to the low 20s (61ºF). Sunshine levels, average six hours per day and rainfall is at its highest but it still isn’t particularly high and usually sticks to short showers or thunderstorms. Spring is from March till May, and the average temperature climbs to 18ºC (64ºF) in March, 20ºC (68ºF) in April and 22ºC (72ºF) in May. Sunshine levels jump to nine hours per day in April and ten hours in May. It is the perfect season for golf. Summer lasts from June till September and is filled with long days of brilliant sunshine and soaring heat. The average high temperature starts out in the pleasant mid 20s (72ºF) then gets up to a peak of 28ºC (83ºF) in July and August. September gets back down to 26ºC (78ºF). It is the fringe months of June and September that are perhaps the most comfortable in terms of heat for golfers. In the peak months daytime temperatures can go up into the mid 30´s (86ºF). Cooling sea breezes help to take the edge off the heat as do the moderately low humidity levels. The sun shines in ten or more hours per day on average for the entire season. Rainfall is so low it’s hardly worth mentioning. Autumn lasts from October and November, and is very warm with an average high temperature of 22ºC (71ºF) in October and 19ºC (66ºF) in November. Rainfall does increase but only to around 50 mm which is unlikely to cause more than a brief inconvenience. It usually falls in brief thunderstorms that come in from the Atlantic. October sees around eight hours per day of sunshine and November sees around six.

Western Algarve! Western Algarve begins at the town of Portim達o, on the western bank of the River Arade and ends in the town of Sagres the westernmost point of Europe. In the Western Algarve, there is a selection of very good golf courses which are often very good value, excellent hotels and several towns providing a more traditional Portuguese setting for your stay. Portim達o is a busy town and is in fact, the second largest town in the Algarve, after Faro. It is also an important commercial and fishing center. Praia da Rocha with its high-rise accommodation on the cliff-tops, it is not the most beautiful place on earth but has great beaches, plenty of bars and restaurants and good accommodation. The fishing village of Alvor next to a lagoon, with its shallow waters adjacent to the marshlands of the protected nature reserve has some pretty amazing golf courses. The historic town of Lagos, which is probably the best known of the western Algarve holiday Resorts is a walled town featuring a natural harbor, some great beaches and beautifully located golf courses laid in the wild and rugged countryside of the west Algarve. Burgau & Salema are two quite pretty fishing villages with cobbled streets. The unspoiled village of Figueira has the last west Algarve golf course the Parque da Floresta Golf Resort. At the most south-westerly point of the Algarve is the village of Sagres and Cape St. Vincent. Here, as we approach the west coast of the Algarve, the landscape and the coastline become more rugged. Away from the coast and 22km (15 miles) north of Portim達o the charming little town of Monchique, nestled in the pineclad foothills of the Serra de Monchique mountains is famous for its curative waters at the Thermal Spa, a few kilometers south at Caldas de Monchique.

Parque da Floresta Golf Course
Located in the most western part of the Algarve, the architect of this course has created a fascinating course that presents visually attractive views of the surrounding countryside lined on the horizon by the sea. The fairways roll up and down through hills demanding accurate shots and good placing. The Par-3 fifteenth hole of 159 meters (173.9yd) is a golfer's dream.
2
Boavista Golf Course
Boavista offers two distinct sections of play providing a variety of attractive and interesting holes. From the first to the last putt on the 18th green it promises a sensible game for the average player. Umbrella pines, blossoming almond, fig, palm and olive trees line the rolling fairways, weaving their way between water hazards and carefully placed bunkers. Breathtaking views, spectacular scenery and the clear Atlantic Ocean, which is visible from most holes, all combine to make this course a delight for the golfer.
3
Espiche Golf Course
The latest course in the Algarve, The Espiche Golf Course, gently provides an undulating 18-hole par-72 course that blends into the local landscape. Its lakes, streams, and indigenous planting, add to the enrichment and biodiversity of the area. The various attractive aspects that the course offers the golfer are a clever blend of open countryside with vineyards and views to the Monchique Mountains. The close proximity to Praia da Luz and the City of Lagos offers an excellent and convenient location. The course uses innovative grass technology making this one of the most ecologically advanced courses in Europe.

Palmares Golf Course
This course has been totally transformed by the American course designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. He has created a mixture of parkland with authentic links style. The 27 holes are laid out on the side of a south-facing hill overlooking the Bay of Lagos. It is unquestionably the most attractive location of all the golf courses in the Algarve. The views as you play your round are quite breathtaking. Five of the holes are placed on the sand dunes with the fifth, a par-5 of 550 meters (601.5yd) making a real challenge. For the time being there are no villas clustering the fairways so the feeling of openness as you play is very refreshing
5
Álamos Golf Course
This course is one of the newer courses to open in the Algarve. Located to the north of Portimão it is located next to its sister course Morgado. The setting is a large 980 hectare (2,422 acre) estate through undulating small valleys. The immediate main characteristic factor is its large greens which place demand on good putting skills as they are often raised above the fairway approach and involve several levels. Also, the accuracy of the player's shot will be questioned by deep aggressive bunkers.
6
Alto Golf Course
This course is located between the town of Portimão and the sea close enough to allow the player an occasional sea view. A simple par-3 opens your round but deceiving to what is to be expected by the player. The course is considered a good test for the player’s ability with strategic bunkers, dog-legs, elevated greens and well placed trees. A further noteworthy challenge is par-5 on the sixteenth hole that is considered to be one of the longest holes in Europe. Palmares Golf Course

Gramacho Golf Course
Originally a nine-hole course which has been extended and cleverly redesigned in order to become a fully-fledged 18-hole course. A formidable challenge to its designer! The course covers undulating terrain with olive, almond and carob trees scattered as planted years before by the local farmers. The course is designed for the player to be technically accurate and to know which club to choose before hitting the ball. Anything less will quickly increase his score

Penina Golf Course
The grandfather of golf courses in the Algarve a permanent living memory to its architect and active promoter, Sir Henry Cotton. Originally paddy fields for rice growing it has been converted into a flat challenging course and destined for the strongest of players. Something short of half a million shrubs and trees were planted in the conversion. As the fairways are flat Henry Cotton introduced strategically placed water hazards to catch the unwary long hitter.

Within the ample space of the Championship Course a further 9 holes was constructed. This is known as the Resort Course and it has taken advantage of the principles laid down by Sir Henry Cotton with water hazards playing their tricky best.

Vale da Pinta Golf Course
This is a well laid out and interesting course. Set in a truly Algarve landscape with almond, olive and carob trees decorating the course rolling through small valleys and hills. Some of the olive trees are believed to be over 150 years old. Two holes that deserve special mention are the par-3 ten and the par-5 thirteen. The former has a large bunker defending the green against your shot, the latter, winds through a valley for 541 meters (591.6yd). Penina Academy Golf Course Founded Architect Holes Length Par

Silves Golf Course
This latest course belonging to the Pestana Group is surrounded by typical Algarve fruit orchards and small farms. The course has been designed to test the golfer's quality in hitting accurately the ball using the correct choice of club. This point is immediately emphasized as you stand on the first tee with two water hazards flanking the fairway. The course has been described as designed for fierce playing whilst the bunkers are smartly placed to cause possible trouble to the "strong hitters".
14
Vale de Milho Golf Course
This is a very friendly par-3 course with nine holes close to the coastal village of Carvoeiro. Only 926 meters (0.581 miles) in length it is an excellent course for beginners to practice and regular players to improve on their short game. There are an adequate number of bunkers and water hazards to keep most players keenly interested. The second hole is a good example of the essence of this course. Central Algarve! Central Algarve is the best well-known and geared up for the ‘tourist’ area in the Algarve. It has the largest concentration of hotels and apartments in the country and a selection of sporting and leisure activities to suit everyone. The Central Algarve stretches all the way from Faro in the east to Portimão in the west, some 45 miles across and has the highest number of golf courses in Portugal with 19 golf courses located a 30 minute drive from any hotel. Almancil is a small town which acts as a hub for the resorts found along the costal stretch including Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vila Sol Resort located at the heart of Algarve’s 'Golden Triangle' formed by Quinta do Lago, Vilamoura and Loulé. Vilamoura is the largest man made resort in the Algarve and a golfer´s paradise (5 golf courses 10 minute from each other), villas, townhouses, apartments, hotels, a casino, a marina, shops, restaurants, bars and beaches. Right next to it is the less glamorous town of Quarteira but nevertheless great for those on a budget and offering all the leisure amenities required by golfers. Between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo sits the luxury developments of Dunas Douradas and Vale do Garrão both pleasantly quiet and secluded places for those who come here to play and relax in style. Albufeira is after Vilamoura the most sought after destination for golfers since it is a close distance from several golf courses (six in total) and a paradise for fun and leisure featuring lively restaurants and bars all year round. Nearby the Resorts of Pine Cliffs and Balaia Golf Village at the town of Olhos d'Agua, both housing golf courses, cater for those who prefer to stay at exclusive resorts without missing the bustling of city life. Further west you’ll find the town of Armação de Pera, dominated by high-rise buildings and the quiet village of Porches, famed for Algarve pottery. Not far and along the coast is Carvoeiro a pretty little village still bearing the charms of the fishing village it once was and a preferred destination for golf couples. Travelling north and inland about 13km (6,5 miles), the historic town of Silves, once the capital of the Algarve, lying on the banks of the River Arade is a great place to visit after a good day of golf. www.portugalres.com | info@portugalres.com | Tel: +351 211 106 020

Salgados Golf Course
The course is set on the flat lands behind the sandy beach of Praia de Galé and bird sanctuary of Salgados dunes and lagoon. The environment and wild nature of the course makes it an islet course dotted with ponds and plenty of sunshine. It is a very open course with little vegetation and plenty well placed water hazards. It requires a technically skilled player to achieve good results due to the prevailing onshore breeze.
16
Oceânico Academy Course
This special nine-hole course of 1.400 meters (0.8 miles) in total was opened in 2009. The course acts as an excellent supporting feature to the Oceânico Golf Academy. Players will find plenty of the usual hazards to practice their short game as no hole is more than 105 meters in length.
17
Oceânico Faldo Course
In a modern twist of a traditional recipe, cacti and wild herbs replace the role of Sunningdale’s heather, Spartan Holm oaks and ancient olive trees take the place of a lush English woodland, and desert scrub bunkers of crushed limestone replace Berkshire’s sandy tracts in a golf course that revels in the classic principles of “strategic play". The course asks for careful positioning to score well. Rocky areas, meandering watercourses, good views to the distant mountains of Monchique, orange groves, all of these give the course its own character. The course first hole is a testing uphill, Par-4, offering a number of 'risk and reward' opportunities. The downhill, Par-5, hole 4, encounters a meandering watercourse, which comes into play on three of the front 9 holes and two of the inward play. The inward 9 holes include several which will become the talking point of the '19th-hole cognoscenti'. Mastering the massive Par-5 hole 13 has a descending fairway, that when the wind is behind the player, demands consistent shot making all the way to the hole. Holes 14 and 15 continue to challenge the golfer, sometimes playing amongst rocky outcrops. After leaving the high ground to the west, the 18th brings the game to a close with a magnificent Par-5 Salgados Golf Course

Oceânico O´Connor Golf Course
Perfectly complementing the Faldo Course, whilst taking advantage of the rich valley soil, in contrast to the arid hillside, the Christy O'Connor course offers no less of a challenge, requiring accurate play. The front 9 holes encounter a number of lakes, the 3rd being recognized by a Moorish relic situated on an island in the adjacent lake. Holes 7, 8 and 9 offer a particular challenge, where the water hazards could force a lack of concentration. Hole-10 leads the player away from the northern boundary, setting up the challenge for the inward nine. Large bodies of water and meandering watercourses will test players all the way to the 18th. Assaulting the hillside in front of the clubhouse, this final hole will require players to drive with pinpoint accuracy to set up the approach shot to a two-tier green benched into the hillside.

Pine Cliffs Golf Course
This well maintained course of nine-holes is located on the cliff top near Albufeira and managed by the adjoining Hotel Sheraton. The prize of the course is its ninth over a ravine with beautiful views down on the sandy beach, locally nicknamed the "Devil’s Parlor". This small and beautiful course is set among the pine trees and presents a pleasant and charming course with good greens.
20 Balaia
Golf Course
This course lies on the east side of the popular town of Albufeira tucked behind a Holiday Complex. It is an attractive compact 9-hole course providing any player the choice of improving their iron shots and also their short game. It is correctly named an "Executive Course" reflecting the challenges of varying degree whether the player is a beginner or more advanced in his game. On the first tee there lies before the player a very attractive view of most of the course with the blue sea as its background. Victoria Golf Course
The Victoria Clube de Golfe Course is laid out over virtually flat terrain covering some 90 hectares (222.4 acres) including a series of built mounds specially landscaped to emulate the outline of inland hills on the horizon - a feature that enriches the course showing a sense of movement and harmony. The series of beautiful lakes and waterfalls also helps to provide an attractive background whilst playing the course. This is at present the longest 18-hole golf course in Portugal and promises to be a notable course in Europe. Each hole has a minimum of five tees from which to play thus making the course suitable for golfers of all handicap levels. Before playing it is advisable to take advantage of the immense putting green of about 2,500 m2 (0,6 acres) to "feel the green" at that very important end game.
22
Millennium Golf Course
Martin Hawtree has extended his original concept of the original 27-hole by adding another 9 and creating two distinctive courses. Those new holes part of the Millennium Course wander amongst the parkland of pine trees that are often found on the coast of Algarve. The course is a pleasure to play with subtle but very few tricky obstacles except possibly for the par-3 hole 6 with a lake on to the left of the fairway an entrapment for stray balls.
23
Oce창nico Old Course Golf
This is the second oldest golf course in the Algarve. Set in an umbrella of pinewood and laid out on an interesting way taking advantage of the natural boundaries of the course. Its design is from the English school of Course design. The first holes are easy and inviting with reachable par-4s. The par-3 on the attractive fourth hole is a one shot dream achievement. Club selection from here will play an important part of your game, and straight shots will be required. The ninth is an excellent example of this situation. The back nine has three interesting par-5s. The sixteenth hole provides a 522 meter challenge for good length and straight hitting. Victoria Golf Course

Oce창nico Laguna Golf Course
The 18-hole golf course has been laid out over level ground with the exception of the eleventh and twelve holes that take the player around and over a lake. The remaining of the course is made of open fairways with very few trees to increase difficulty. It is a course that can be related to some degree to the challenges provided by a Links course featuring many water hazards with strategically placed bunkers in open terrain. These factors combined with the occasional strong wind make for a challenging course.
25
Oce창nico Pinhal Golf Course
This course is laid through the pine tree forest of the area and is set back from the tourist beach area. The outward nine holes wander through the holiday villas that line the fairways. The well-positioned bunkers make the course very enjoyable to the players, testing their choice of clubs and their accuracy. The Par-4 on the fourth hole is difficult to achieve with water waiting for the errand shot. The Par-3 on the eighth of 149 meters (162.9yd) is tricky than it first appears. The back nine-holes have a more open feel but the slightly altered fifteenth will cause a problem to meet the Par-4 it requires.
26
The English architect of this course has carefully maintained the original topographical nature of the undulating terrain. Changes when necessary have been kept to a minimum to preserve the original landscape. The outward nine-holes are extremely testing for golfers and starts with a par-4 of 381 meters long (416.7yd) followed by an even longer par-4 hole and another par-4 of 385 meters (421yd). The sixth and eighth holes, are both par-5s awaiting the player with each a fairway a little shorter than 500 meters long (546.8yd). The back nine have two par-3 holes that are attractively designed. The par-5 on the fourteenth is particularly difficult to achieve with a tricky green awaiting the player. Vila Sol Golf Course Oce창nico Pinhal Golf Course

Laranjal Golf Course
The latest course in the Almancil area has many lakes and obstacles. Laranjal Golf Course's narrow fairways and well cocooned greens require good concentration and club accuracy to navigate the testing course laid down over a rolling and good defined topography. The Laranjal course has five par 5s, eight par 4s, five par 3s set amongst a mixture of pines, cork oak and orange trees. To add to the challenge and the view there are 5 beautiful lakes.
28
Ocean Golf Course
The name of this course is appropriately suggesting an enviable location. As an old golf course it was important in placing the Algarve as a destination in the world of golf. The fairways tend to be narrow and accuracy is an imperative when playing. The holes wander through pine trees with wonderful views of the sea which can be taken between the homes lining the side of the fairways. Some of the holes bring you to the cliff top with the blue Atlantic sea as the backdrop.

Pinheiros Altos Golf Course
Located within the well-known Quinta do Lago estate this course enjoys a solid reputation. Within the golfing world it is known as provider of mental challenge due to smartly placed hazards. There are now 27 holes. The layout has changed to create the three groups of nine holes named Oliveiras (Olive Trees), Pinheiros (PineTrees) and Sobreiros (CorkTrees), respectively.

Quinta do Lago North Golf Course
The course has four great par-5 holes requiring power and accuracy to play them well, also providing superb views. The par-3 holes are well influenced by the wind. Hole 14 is outstanding. The par-4s are all dog-legs except for holes 10 and 13. Precision driving is vital to set up the chance of a low score. The lakes on Holes 13 and 18 claim many balls. The course favors the player who can draw the ball.
31
Quinta do Lago South Golf Course
This is the course that has been used several times for the Portuguese Open. The course favors the long hitter, but requires the player to pick a particular route to score well. Both 9 set of holes are set in anti-clockwise loops, the first nine suggests a draw, whilst the second favors a fade from the tee. Holes 3, 15 and 17, feature lakes that must be negotiated. Holes 8, 10,15 and 18, are the most testing for the scratch player while holes 2,3,5,12, 13 and 17, offer the best possibilities of birdies. This course is an enjoyable experience to all types of players.
32
Royal Golf Course
This course combines existing holes from the original Vale do Lobo course and some special interesting new holes. The layout of the course is skillful with a mixture of challenges slowly building up to a final on the eighteenth. The famous par-3 "seventh hole" from the old days is now the spectacular sixteenth on this new course. The closing eighteenth is a tricky hole on which to finish, with a narrow fairway and a deceptive green.

San Lorenzo Golf Course
Located in the Quinta do Lago estate this golf course enjoys a reputation due to the perfect condition of the course and attractive views over the lake at Ria Formosa. It has been ranked in the past as the second best course in Europe. The outward first five holes are played through the pine tree forest. Water and nice holes layouts provide for hazards that play a big part in the selection of clubs to play and careful hit of the ball. The eighteenth is a tricky par-4 mainly involving a lake waiting for the inaccurate shot.

Eastern Algarve! Eastern Algarve has warmer weather and higher temperatures than the rest of the region. The sea is calmer and warmer with strong influence from the Mediterranean. This region is also less touristic and less crowded with a more native and traditional landscape. The coastal towns of eastern Algarve are ‘real’ towns, less modernized and developed than those in Central and Western Algarve. This is the place for a perfect relaxed style of holiday, away from the hordes of tourists and water parks, destined to welcome experienced golfers and those who seek a secluded place to stay and play. The towns along this coastline are not generally right on the sea. They are separated from the Atlantic by salt-pans, marshland and lagoons forming part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve stretching from just south of Faro along the coast to the town of Vila Nova de Cacela. The management center of Ria Formosa Natural Reserve at Quinta Marim is worth a visit. The beaches are to be found on long sandy islands and outcrops. The wetlands at Ria Formosa Nature Reserve make this area of coastline, wild and interesting, in contrast to the red sandstone cliffs of central Algarve and the rugged coastline of the west. Inland, the area is completely undeveloped offering golf courses right in the wild with unobtrusive views of the native landscape and small rustic villages nestle in the remote countryside. About 10 km (4 miles) north of Faro the quiet and historic town of Estoi is famous for its pink palace and Roman Ruins. The inland town of São Brás de Alportel is cork forest land. Leaving Faro towards the east the first town is the fishing port of Olhão featuring a large fish market down by the sea front. Eight kilometers (4,5 miles) northeast of Olhão is the rural village of Moncarapacho. Tavira is a charming and unspoiled town, with narrow cobbled streets, straddling both sides of the River Gilão. Seventeen kilometers (8,5 miles) east of Tavira, is Eastern Algarve's only real tourist resort, Monte Gordo. A few kilometers to the west of Monte Gordo, on the coast is the small purpose built resort of Altura, which is a peaceful and relaxing place to unwind. This area ends at Vila Real de Santo Antonio, on the border with Spain.

Benamor Golf Course
This course is endorsing a growing reputation from players due to their enjoyment of the course and easy access from main road making the whole area faster to reach. The course is laid out on rolling hills offering pleasant views to the Atlantic Ocean and to the hills of the Caldeir達o Mountains. Player accuracy is particularly called upon due to the architect retention of as many of the old trees as possible. These natural obstacles coupled with strategic placed bunkers and occasional water hazards make the course a worthwhile challenge.

Colina Verde Golf Course
This executive 9-hole course is hidden away in the country between Olh達o and Tavira and with some very comfortable holiday apartments nearby. The course offers the opportunity to improve the short game or develop more confidence in a novice player. There is only one Par-4, 243 meters long (265.7yd). Both the 5th and the 9th are designed to demand accuracy in the stroke.

Quinta da Ria Golf Course
A course designed by Rocky Roquemore to take advantage of the beautiful natural settings in a Nature Reserve with the blue sea at its southern border. A 475 meter (519.5yd) par-5 hole sets the tone of the course taking the player down a gentle slope to the first of the several undulating greens. The par-3 fifth hole is a challenging dog-leg to the left with a lake to catch the short ball. The back nine takes the player close to the beach and the panoramic sea views. The interesting par-4 hole fourteenth of 333 meters (364.2yd) which is another dog-leg to the left presents water to the right on the drive and then again inviting water to your left to carry on the approach shot to the green. The eighteenth par-5 of 475 meters (519.5yd) has a generous width to the fairway but the green is almost surrounded by guarding bunkers. Benamor Golf Course

This new sister course to Quinta da Ria is a Championship course providing an enjoyable challenge for most players. Set in rolling land dotted with almond trees it offers open fairways, well placed bunkers and enough water to attract the odd misdirected golf ball. The first two holes indicate the true nature of the course emphasizing the need for good club selection combined with accuracy. Players are making their comments about the tricky Par-5 sixteenth hole and the memorable eighteenth.

Castro Marim Golf Course
Located close to the historic town of Castro Marim, the 3 nine-hole courses run through undulating hills dotted with pine trees and occasional views across the River Guadiana to neighboring Spain. The three courses are named Atlantic, Grouse and Guadiana. This course calls for careful play with strategically placed water hazards and fairway terrain that can put you in trouble. Not to mention the well placed bunkers waiting for an errand ball. The par-3 on the seventeenth is a hole that calls for special club selection with bunkers in front of the green and a lake behind, subject at the same time to the prevailing winds off the sea.

Oceânico Faldo Course Designed by Sir Nick Faldo with strategic play in mind this 6,598m (4,1 miles) par 72 championship course demands careful positioning to score well. "The land at Amendoeira is dramatic and the project has the potential to be a real talking point in the Algarve. With so many courses in the region, that’s no mean feat," pointed out Nick Faldo, during his visit in 2007. In a modern twist of a traditional recipe, cacti and wild herbs replace the role of Sunningdale’s heather, spartan Holm oaks and ancient olive trees take the place of a lush English woodland, and desert scrub bunkers of crushed limestone replace Berkshire’s sandy tracts in a golf course that revels in the classic principles of strategic play. Nick said: "This was a very exciting project, which gave me a great opportunity to exploit my passion for design the same way I exploited my passion for playing. You have incredible views, beautiful undulating land and any time you have natural terrain like this, it is great fun to work with." "The real skill is that when you stand on the tee, the golf hole tells you what to do and if you do what it tells you there is reward but if you don’t you’re penalized. The back nine is quite hilly, which is fantastic because we’ve got some great views to complement the course." "I like my courses to be challenging to whoever plays them. There might be easy holes in some places, but they are a challenge because you have to think about them, and that is what I am after. The best compliment you can get in the design business is when players come off the course and say ’wow, that was a challenge,’ and that’s just what I planned at Amendoeira Golf Resort."

Oceânico Victoria Course The Oceanico Victoria , which covers some 90 hectares, is the most recent golf course project of Arnold Palmer in Portugal. As one of the best and most sophisticated golf courses in Europe, every care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the wetlands and the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees. Several lakes, occupying 13 hectares (32,1 acres), provide mirrors of water and strategic reservoirs for irrigation. The course features 5 or 6 tees per hole; wide, undulating fairways; extensive water hazards and cleverly positioned bunkers. In addition there is an exceptional driving range and a putting green of some 2,500m² (26,910 ft2). The Oceanico Victoria golf course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship layout, measuring 6,609m (4,1 miles) from the back tees. Opened in 2004, Oceanico Victoria is a unique, unforgettable experience for all who play there, and is a major venue for top international tournaments: Host to the Portugal Masters 2007-2010 Host to the PGA World Cup 2005 No. holes 18 PAR 72 Length 6609m Slope rating 129 Architect Arnold Palmer Location Vilamoura www.portugalres.com | info@portugalres.com | Tel: +351 211 106 020

Oceânico O'Connor Jnr. Course Designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr., this course complements the neighboring Oceanico Faldo Course and also takes full advantage of being situated in a fertile valley. Its various water features, both lakes and watercourses that are spread throughout the entire course, demand accuracy and test from all golfers, and the rich topsoil has been skillfully landscaped and planted with mature palm trees, affording a lush, ornamental setting like an extensive oasis. This course has tees that are generally connected to the fairways, but its greater overall distance, the water hazards and big greens provide its challenge. Golfers must also be prepared to read the subtly contoured putting surfaces that are strong features. Holes 7, 8 and 9, average length par 4’s, offer a particular challenge as all three run alongside lakes, so golfers’ concentration and accuracy of tee-shots as well as approaches are vital. 3rd and 17th holes are both excellent par 3’s. Two consecutive par 4’s, the 14th and 15th with large rolling greens, are tough hurdles to overcome at such a critical stage of the round, and then the finishing hole, 356m (1,168 ft.) off the white tee, requires a precision drive to set up the approach to a two tier green benched into the hillside. Christy's 18th hole brings the course to a fantastic finish, a gentle climb with the river running along the right hand side. 'This hole is a humdinger; once you get up here and look down on the golf course, you will feel you have been blessed.'

Oce창nico Old Course Situated in the heart of Vilamoura a mere 20 minute drive from Faro airport, this Frank Pennink designed parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world. Often described as the Grande Dame of Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pine trees - the principal hazard - over gently undulating natural terrain. Although it opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernized 27 years later although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout. In addition to raising the Oceanico Old Course to new heights of quality, an attractive new clubhouse and adjacent putting green were also built at that time. As with all Oceanico courses, environmental protection practices are strictly adhered to by means of detailed management systems in line with guidelines established by ISO 14001 standards, Green Globe and Committed to Green programs. This is one of the courses in Portugal that will always stay in the memory of visiting golfers. Oceânico Pinhal Course This was the second golf course built in Vilamoura and inaugurated in 1976, having originally been designed by Frank Pennink, the architect of the nearby Oceanico Old Course. Several refinements were incorporated over the years, the most significant one by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1985. The course is typified by rolling parkland terrain covered with numerous umbrella and Atlantic pines that line many of the fairways and a few even stand out on fairways or near greens. Ponds and a stream come into play on five holes but are not serious threats to above-average golfers. To keep up with modern technical advances in clubs and balls, several holes have recently been lengthened and the par 72 course now measures 6,353m (3,9 miles) off the white tee markers. The clubhouse was completely renovated and modernized at the turn of the millennium and from the large veranda one can enjoy a panoramic view over the excellent driving range and practice facilities. Oce창nico Millennium Course This conventional par 72 course opened in the year 2000, although the original back nine was formerly part of the 27-hole Laguna Course. Refurbishment to the existing nine holes commenced in May 1999 and included the complete rebuilding of the tees, greens and bunkers, particularly for holes 8 and 9, the only ones on this loop with water hazards, with the aim to simplify the strategy of the course to make it more golfer-friendly. The renovated 9 holes were joined together with the new 9-hole loop to offer a layout of different character, style and playing quality. The work was undertaken by the well-established UK golf Architects Hawtree & Sons which culminated in the creation of the new, exciting 18-hole Oceanico Millennium golf course. The course is particularly open, although some holes (the 3rd to the 7th) wind between pine trees and are similar to the neighboring fairways of the Oceanico Old Course and Oceanico Pinhal. In this more wooded area, the fairways are narrower and require greater accuracy - while the rest of the course has a clear landscape enriched by lakes at the 4th, 17th and 18th holes. The arrival of the Oceanico Millennium course made Vilamoura one of the main - if not the main - European golf destination. Oce창nico Laguna Course Laid out over low lying coastal terrain, this course, with its many water hazards and few trees, is considerably different from the other ones in Vilamoura and many of its holes convey a links atmosphere. U.S. golf architect Joseph Lee designed this course which opened in 1990 and many previous visitors will recognize it as part of the former 27 hole Vilamoura III course. It has been subject to continual improvements over the years. Measuring 6.121m (3,8 miles) from the white tees, the par 72 course includes several lakes which influence play on a total of 11 holes. In addition to acting as hazards and emergency water reservoirs, these lakes serve a useful purpose in attracting a variety of aquatic birds, both resident and migratory, as well as amphibians, otters and terrapins. Vilamoura's master developers, Lusotur, have also established an environmental nature park not far from the course. Apart from the lakes and an impressive total of 79 bunkers, another hazard is the wind that frequently blows over this somewhat exposed location. The Oceanico Laguna course shares a large, welcoming clubhouse with the neighboring Oceanico Millennium course.

Oce창nico Academy Course The 9 hole Oceanico Academy course located between the Oceanico Faldo Course and the Oceanico O'Connor Jnr. course is ideally suited for beginners and those who wish to sharpen up their short game. It has been built to the same high standards as the Oceanico Faldo Course and Oceanico O'Connor Jnr. course. Three teeing options vary the line of play into each hole and maximize every hazard designed into the green complex. The 7th is the feature hole on the course, where two of the teeing options play over water. The 9 hole Oceanico Academy course will become a firm favorite with all the family and a must to play alongside its big brothers.
