Activated carbon depth filter media
The right activated carbon sheet for every application–especially when maximum safety and product quality are required: With the new Beco Carbon™ ACF 03 grade, Eaton is responding to the growing demand for user-friendly activated carbon sheets tested for endotoxins for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical applications, fine chemicals, and other industries. Active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing processes in particular demand the strong capabilities of activated carbon depth filter sheets for decolorization and adsorptive separation of undesired byproducts. In these processes, users benefit from the facts that Beco Carbon ACF 03 activated carbon depth filter sheets meet USP Class VI testing requirements and a Validation Guide.
The depth filter sheets, with activated carbon bound in the filter, are available in various designs and sizes, including stacked disc cartridges, flat sheets, and disposable capsules. These different designs facilitate the work for laboratory and preproduction trials, and the results can be transferred to full scale production using the same activated carbon depth filter media. The range of filter areas available enables ideal adaptation to the respective batch size and therefore optimizing process costs.
In the BecoDisc® BC stacked disc cartridge with Beco Carbon grade ACF 03, materials such as polypropylene (PP) or polyamide (PA) are processed for a wide range of applications, and gaskets made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (E-PTFE) ensure notably high chemical resistance to critical solvents. With its mesoporous to microporous adsorption range, the acid-washed, steam-activated carbon in Beco Carbon ACF 03 depth filter sheets is used to decolorize medium stains (yellow to yellowish) and remove organic impurities such as endotoxins. “This spectrum is particularly relevant in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sector for the production of antibiotics and active ingredient solutions or for the processing of blood plasma,” explains Jörg Thiemann, Product Manager Filter Media at Eaton’s Filtration Division. “The demand for depth filter sheets containing activated carbon is high in many industries,” Thiemann continues. For this reason, the Beco Carbon range is also used in the production of food supplements and beverages, plant extracts and cosmetic ingredients, or in process water treatment and fine chemicals production. With the launch of the Beco Carbon ACF 03 grade, filtration solutions for macroporous, mesoporous, and microporous adsorption areas are now available across the entire Beco Carbon range.
Beco Carbon ACF 03 depth filter sheets has been tested for endotoxin content and meets USP biocompatibility tests for highest safety and product quality (USP Class VI). A Validation Guide is available upon request. The bonded activated carbon with a large inner surface area of up to 2,000 m2/g ensures high reliability and convenience of use. Thanks to the precisely
Strong adsorption performance with excellent biocompatibility: The Beco Carbon activated carbon depth filter sheets in various designs and with scalable filter areas remove molecular impurities and discolorations in the adsorption range from approx. 2 to 50 nm
