Looking to start out the school year on a relaxing note and make new friends? Campus Activities has the perfect event for you! Get your game on at CWUpLate’s kick off event Thursday, September 28 from 8 - 11 p.m. in the SURC Pit. Board games, video games, free refreshments and great company – what more could you want? CWU’s Campus Activities has teamed up with departments across campus, from the Athletics and Recreation Departments to ASCWU and student clubs, in a massive collaboration for a night of games in the SURC Pit. And the best part? It’s free! “It’s the beginning of the quarter, so if you’re new to CWU or a freshman, it’s great to meet people,” said Omi Alsalman, an intern with Campus Activities helping to plan the event. “Many people from Athletics will also be there, so if you’re an athlete or you like to watch sports, you’ll be able to meet each other.”
You can play some of your favorite games on a variety of consoles, including Xbox 360, original Xbox, Wii and more. For those who prefer something more old school, there will be cards and board games available. An assortment of treats and an ice cream sundae bar will be free for attendees. “It’s a fun way to kick off the year,” said Campus Activities Intern Rachel Ford. “Get some free food and get involved on campus!” Check out these other great Campus Activities Events Monday Movie Madness Most Monday nights, you can check out a new film in the SURC Theatre. Nick Offerm an HOMECOMING ENTERTAINMENT By Eric Rosane
Known as the stark, libertarian government worker Ron Swanson on “Parks and Recreation,” comedian Nick Offerman was loved by many while working on the seven seasons based around Pawnee’s city workers. As a stand-up act? Well, let’s just say that he’s not your grandfather’s comedian. “My trademark style of presentation is stark truths slathered in delicious ribaldry,” the comedian shared, in regards to his off-kilter material. We connected with Offerman during production breaks to discuss his time in college, his love of woodwork and theatre, and what material he will be bringing to Ellensburg on October 7. Offerman will leave no topic untouched. From survival skills to stories of personal hygiene and love, he will bring his own batch of life-lessons and witty anecdotes to the SURC ballroom through his exuberant songs and selfaware standup.

What are you most excited to talk about with this crowd of 20-somethings?
Are you and the Parks and Recreation fam still pretty close?
I have played at many colleges across our nation, and it is my favorite type of audience, because the young people are generally very smart, optimistic and have a great sense of humor, which I find really inspiring for the future of our society.
We are very close, and we have (a) text thread upon which somebody chimes in at least every other day, so we have remained constantly aware of one another, and all the amazing life achievements that each and every cast member is racking up.
What was your college experience like? What was the Nick Offerman back then like?
You and your family of woodworkers occasionally teach public classes in the Los Angeles area. What’s a lesson that you’ve learned from woodworking that can be translated into a life lesson?
I had a very good time making the transition from my very small hometown... Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, we did not have access to a lot of culture outside the mainstream channels for music and entertainment, so college for me was very much a rebirthing process into the counter-culture artists that I adore and emulate to this day… Best part of college life? Worst? Best: learning to apply my skills to making art for grownups, mainly theatre and woodworking... Worst: recognizing the childish habits that I needed to shed and shedding them (eventually).
Sublime work requires patience. Expect to make mistakes, for that is the only way we can learn and improve.

Kickin’ it Old School By Eric Rosane
“Kickin’ It Old School,” an homage to the hip and happenin’ trends of decades past, is this year’s Homecoming Week theme. Wildcats new and old will get exclusive access to all things Homecoming, from club fairs and concerts to bonfires and special guest entertainers. MONDAY Start off the week by connecting with fellow students at Homecoming Kick Off, hosted on the SURC East Patio from 1 - 5 p.m. Over 50 unique clubs will be in attendance, so whether you’re interested in gaming or physics, there’s a club for everyone! Chalk the Walk, a new Homecoming activity to decorate the Chestnut Mall, will be located outside of OPR at the same time. That night, hit the SURC Theatre for a special showing of Spider-man: Homecoming. Shows start at 7 and 9:30 p.m., and are free to CWU students with ID. TUESDAY On Tuesday, finalists will show what it takes to be crowned Mr. or Ms. Central. This 30year tradition will pit hallvs-hall in a challenge to see who’s got the most talent. The free show will start at 7 p.m. in the SURC Ballroom, and with 2,000 new students on campus, it’s anybody’s game. WEDNESDAY Kick back next to a bonfire and bring your Wildcat spirit. The event is free to students
from 9 - 11 p.m., and you’re not going to want to miss out on the good company, tasty treats and fun fireside rituals. Wellington’s Wildfire will be hosted near the challenge course off of 18th Avenue. The CWU marching band and cheer team will be in attendance, and free food will be provided by CWU food trucks.
After the 5K, cheer on your Wildcats at the CWU Homecoming Football game against Humboldt State University at 1 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium. Free admission for CWU students with ID.
THURSDAY Get your groove on, Wildcats! On Thursday, Ellensburg-native rock band CobraHawk (who most recently opened for Smash Mouth at the Central Washington State Fair), is coming into town to rock the SURC ballroom at 8 p.m. Their fast, rock-fueled riffs will have you dancing for days.

FRIDAY Bring your friends and your best dance moves! On Friday, the Silent Dance Party will start bumpin’ in the SURC Ballroom at 8 p.m. Snag a pair of custom headphones, tune into the same DJ station as your friends and dance the night away at one of CWU’s most unique dance parties. End the eve with a film so maddeningly gory, Then leave with your friends to tell your own frightening story
The Haunting at Central is a free event for students, taking place from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday, October 28 in the SURC. Bring your fellow ghouls and goblins to wander around the large, terrifying haunted house. Or, if you’re up for something less frightening, go for 9-holes at Holmes’ neon mini golf course. The Recreation Center will host the Wildcat favorite, Zombie Zone. This interactive event pits you against ten other zombies with only a nerf gun to fight your way through. Slow your heart rate at the Halloween Photo Show, a customizable photography shoot where you choose the costumes and setting. 88.1 The ‘Burg will be there to keep the treacherous tunes rolling, and free pizza and sweets will be available for all attendees. A scary movie in the SURC pit will end the evening. It’ll scare you to pieces. Don’t miss the best Wildcat Halloween party at CWU!

While it’s a new academic year for everyone at CWU, it’s also a new year in office for seven Wildcats. The Associated Students of Central Washington University (ASCWU) Student Government works to represent all CWU students equally and fairly, and is committed to ensuring that students are receiving the best possible education and experiences while attending Central. Your seven elected officials are gearing up for a busy year of events, student advocacy, lobbying and much more. Read on to get a little insight into priorities this year. Empowering the Wildcat Voice Your ASCWU team not only helps to bridge the gap between students and faculty, staff and administration, but also works to empower students. When you are faced with an exciting opportunity or concern regarding academic or student life, this team can support and lead you through the process. The officers came together over the summer and discussed some common areas of focus including improved communication and transparency with the student body, increased student involvement and advocacy, and continuing the development of welcoming, inclusive environments.

Your Student Government team is ready to listen and take action with you, from navigating tricky academic waters to lobbying for bills that reduce costs, promoting equity and building a memorable Wildcat experience. Something for Everyone While many Wildcats know they may find Student Government officers in their second-story wing of the SURC, or that they hold weekly open meetings, not all students realize the number of committees, boards and other opportunities that also exist to get involved. In addition to working as a cohesive team, this year’s Student Government officers are looking to boost engagement through their respective offices to strengthen and effectively represent the entire student body.
