Hay quality is critical Your hay quality is critical this fall as herd nutrition depends on all the products your animals consume, especially forages . Failure to meet nutritional requirements will result in poor herd condition and performance affecting the profitability of your operation . A great way to help boost nutrition content and promote performance is by introducing mineral and protein supplements to your forages .
Supplements help achieve optimum health Cattle require a steady, balanced supply of daily nutrients to function optimally and don’t always get everything they need from forages alone . Try adding a ProStock mineral or protein supplement to your feeding regimen . By improving trace mineral nutrition you’ll increase average daily gains, feed utilization, reproductive efficiency and disease immunity . This all leads to an overall improvement in body condition score (BCS) . And a good BCS (3 to 3 .5 on the Canadian system) is key to maintaining good reproductive performance . Nothing beats a balanced mineral and vitamin program . Free-choice minerals like ProStock Range minerals are an effective choice . Parasitic control another key cog in maintaining an animal’s health This fall your cattle need to be treated for worms and internal parasites that cause disease, loss of appetite, weakness, severe weight loss, and even pneumonia . Ignoring worms and parasites is a dangerous hazard and financial liability that can be prevented with proper treatment . UFA has lots of treatment options including, Ivomec® and Normectin® which kill adult worms, larvae, mange, lice, flies and grubs . Protecting your cattle’s health is vital because without control, cows and calves can become heavily infected and pastures may become contaminated with larvae . Deworming increases weight gains and in addition, animals that are not stressed with a worm burden have a more active immune system and are more resistant to infections . Deworming is key to improving your cattle’s health and is available in a variety of pour on and injectable products that provide effective internal and external parasite control . By fall cows and calves will have accumulated a worm burden and need to be treated for both internal and external parasites such as lice and grubs . There is a significant benefit to deworming cows and calves in the fall .
