I would like to welcome you all to ArtsFest 2012, one of the finest free arts festivals in the UK. Now in its fifteenth year, ArtsFest is a celebration of the huge variety of arts and culture that exists throughout our region, including dance, drama, visual arts, live music, comedy, poetry and plenty of family friendly entertainment. Amongst the many highlights this year will be a delightful performance from the world-class Birmingham Royal Ballet, the best new music in the region in the BBC WM Introducing showcase and the mesmerising mass drumming of Bloco Combinado.

As part of the closing event for the London 2012 Festival, Birmingham’s Victoria Square will be one of over 500 locations throughout the country participating in the spectacular Bandstand Marathon. The spirit of the Olympics will also be present in Dancing for the Games – a project that aims to get everyone from beginners to experts to celebrate London 2012 through dancing. This year’s ArtsFest will conclude with a screening of the Closing Ceremony for the London 2012 Paralympic Games on the Live Site in Victoria Square. Kicking off the Style Birmingham Live weekend, The Mailbox will be searching for their most stylish visitors as part of the popular Style Search. Customers can have their photo taken on a celebrity styled ‘sponsor wall’ backdrop with the chance of winning a £250 shopping spree at The Mailbox. Live Catwalk – September 29

The most eagerly anticipated fashion event of the year is once again here, and this year it’s all being held at The Mailbox and hosted by Martine McCutcheon. The Mailbox’s theme is ‘drama and decadence’, with catwalk shows featuring outfits from Harvey Nichols, Hugo Boss, Thomas Pink, Gieves & Hawkes, LK Bennett and Daniel Footwear and many more. Adage Model Search – September 29

Working alongside The Mailbox, Adage Models is looking for The Face of the Future. If you are aged over 16, dress size 8-18, above 5’8’’ (female) or 5’11’’ (male), you could win a contract with the prestigious agency. Bob Dylan: the artist

2012 has been a special year for Bob Dylan: it marks his 50th year as a recording artist and the release of his much-anticipated new album, Tempest. It is also the year that this performer, songwriter, entertainer and artist releases The Drawn Blank series of hand signed limited edition graphics. Mandala, created by Sampad and Seeper, will see Birmingham Town Hall magically illuminated with colour and light and brought to life by 3D moving projections and breathtaking visual effects. Dancing for the Games Saturday / Sunday 11.00 – 18.00/12.00 - 17.30 Dancing for the Games presents The Dance and Performance Marquee, Victoria Square Part of the Cultural Olympiad, Dancing for the Games is getting the West Midlands dancing with masses of events, happenings and opportunities to get involved in dance right across the region. Hosted by Dancing for the Games and programmed by DanceXchange, the Dance and Performance Marquee features a variety of workshops and performances from dance companies based in the West Midlands.

Drama at Newman combines different approaches to acting and directing, work placements in professional theatre settings and dissolves the distinctions between theory and practice. You will gain an understanding of how societies have interpreted themselves through drama from ancient Greece to postmodern Britain. You will also gain knowledge and understanding of a range of careers using drama.

ASPECTS OF ART Art on the Railings

The Centenary Square Railings are transformed into an outdoor gallery, as new and established artists display their beautiful and original artworks. From photography to paintings and print, the railings feature many different forms of art for you to buy. Showcased on the Broad Street side of the Square, be sure to take a look at some of the fantastic pieces on offer.

The Arts Market

Situated in Victoria Square and Upper New Street, the Arts Market offers a variety of arts and crafts stalls for members of the public to browse and purchase items. Creative work from a wide range of artists will be available to buy within this lively market place. From Peruvian jewellery to handmade clothing and pencil drawings to wooden carvings, the Arts Market has something for everyone.

Visit the pARTicipate Village in both Chamberlain and Victoria Squares to take part in an exciting portfolio of arts, craft and digital workshops. There’s lots to do, ranging from pottery classes to face painting and music workshops to mass participatory drawing. Be inspired to take up one of the creative art forms on offer over the weekend.

THE ROOTLESS FOREST FF 11.00 - 13.00 Visit The Rootless Forest during ArtsFest, then walk with the Forest as it moves from Brindleyplace to Edible Eastside between 13.00 – 17.00. The Rootless Forest is a mobile artwork, a mini-forest made of real trees and soil, planted on a barge that travels at walking pace along the Birmingham and Black Country Canals. A landscape and soundscape, this is a new project by Beth Derbyshire, Wheatley Fellow and Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.

Enjoy a variety of performances throughout the day as a range of musical talent takes to the stand.
