In October 2012 the International Convention Centre in Birmingham played host to one of the biggest charity events ever to have hit the city. The Inaugural Harry Moseley Ball was a huge success, attended by 1,250 people, including celebrities Danielle Lloyd and Jamie O Hara, Ben Shepherd, Olympic gymnast Kristian Thomas and Adam Rickett. There was a very special performance by singer Beverley Knight and a series of emotional speeches and special ﬁlms which told Harry’s story and left not a dry eye in the room. At the end of the evening, a staggering £103,000 had been raised for Help Harry Help Others, an amazing amount that will go far to help the people Harry was most concerned about.

Help Harry Help Others

‘Help Harry Help Others’ is focused on three ways of helping families facing cancer, ‘Help Cope’, ‘Help Care’ and ‘Help Cure’. There are many ways that adults and children can get involved.

As individuals

You can become a volunteer. This can be making Harry bracelets,

helping out at Harry HQ or helping with social media and marketing.

Fundraising. From carboot sales to marathons, dress down days to

sponsored silences – the list is endless. There are just so many ways to get sponsored and raise money, you can probably think of some of your own ideas. Donate. You can donate directly on the HHHO website (www.hhho.org.uk ) or by buying a bracelet, either direct from the website, or at one of the many places that now sell the bracelet in Birmingham.

Schools Initiative Harry was an astute young entrepreneur who was interested in passing on his skills in business and fundraising to other children. From this, the Harry School’s initiative was born. Concerned with empowering children to ‘believe in themselves’, become interested in charity, whilst also raising money for their own school funds, the Harry school’s initiative also teaches children real business skills like understanding proﬁt and loss, creating business plans and important computer skills. What Harry created as a charity is very unique. We support families every step of the way through their cancer journey but also we give back. Harry created his bracelets as a thank you for people’s kind donations. Keeping his ethics in mind we also as a charity want to thank people for their much needed support and we do this by giving back to the next generation. The Kids of today are the future. Harry proved that regardless of age, wellbeing, lifestyle you really can achieve anything in life if you are passionate about something. Using all the tools Harry created HHHO are here to give kids the self-belief and empowerment to go and make a change in their communities. Harry inspired kids globally to do good and helped teach valuable basic business skills. He them not be here but his work and legacy may on so why not use the tools he lives to continue inspiring children? Sadly until we do get enough support and ﬁnd that cure, we will still lose people to this dreadful disease.

In line with the release of the huge new Les Miserables ﬁlm one of the London cast members from the West End stage show will be paying a visit to Razzamataz Theatre School to deliver a full day workshop to their students and children of Derby. Mark Hedges has worked extensively in Musical Theatre for twelve years He was in Les Miserables for 3 years as a Swing and Dance Captain/ Children’s Director, he was also part of the ensemble for the 25th Anniversary concert at the O2 Arena. Mark is currently Resident Choreographer and Children’s Director on Cameron Mackintosh’s UK Tour of OLIVER! We are very honoured to have Mark delivering an amazing workshop for us in Derby. Mark says “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my love for the show to a new generation of young performers”. Razzamataz is committed to working with industry professionals to inspire our students. The students will become familiar with some a big songs from the show such as, On my own, I dreamed a dream and At the end of the day. This really is a phenomenal workshop and not to be missed by any budding West End stars of the future! G N I K Y E JO March 8th will see the launch of the new Disney Movie, Oz The Great and Powerful. This is the highly anticipated sequel to the much loved 1939 ﬁlm, the Wizard of Oz and stars Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. Primary Times has been lucky enough to have a chat with one of the young stars of the movie, 13 year old Joey King, who voices the adorable character of China Girl. Joey told us a bit about the movie and what it is like to be a star at such a young age.

You started acting when you were just 4 years old? How did you get the acting bug? How did it affect your school life and friends? I started off acting in a very small playhouse. We also did improvisation games for the audience when the play was over. I loved it so much! I went to public school until I was in third grade and then I switched to private school for two years, but then I started traveling so much that I switched to home school. My home school has Tuesdays as a day where a bunch of students meet with teachers and learn in a class room environment. I try to go when I am home. I have friends at home and from all over the place now. You have provided a voice for many characters in ﬁlms, including Beaver in Ice Age 3, and now China Girl in “OZ the Great and Powerful” – how does it feel to hear your voice coming out from an animated character? I think it is pretty cool to hear my voice come out of different characters, especially animals. I want to voice a pig some day and play it for my pig JayJay and see if she reacts! Tell me a bit about your character China Girl in “OZ the Great and Powerful”.

China Girl is an actress at heart I think. She uses her skills to trick Oz into taking her along on the journey to ﬁnd the wicked witch. China Girl comes off like she is tough but she is a big softy inside and porcelain on the outside. Oz The Great and Powerful is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, were you a fan of the original ﬁlm? OMG yes!! I love watching The Wizard of Oz. It has been so exciting to be able to be part of a prequel to such an amazing movie!

You’re working alongside three amazing actresses in Oz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. What was that like? Did they offer you much advice on set? They are all so talented and I loved watching them work! No advice was given but lots of hugs and laughs. Sam Raimi is the director of Oz. Can you describe what it was like working with such a fantastic director.

Sam is one of the most awesome people I have ever worked with. Not only is he one of the best directors I have ever worked with but he is a genuinely kind, thoughtful person. I can’t say enough good things about him! Sam is one in a million and I wish I could work with him a million more times! I’ve read that you were inﬂuenced in acting by your grandmother? Tell me a little about this. My grandmother loved to do theatre and I think I inherited the acting bug from her. My grandmother still loves the theatre and says she might go back someday when we all don’t keep her so busy. She’s funny and crazy and not afraid to be herself. Who are your current heroes and heroines, both in ﬁlm and otherwise. I have a lot of people I admire. Just because someone is an actor or famous doesn’t mean you should admire them. I admire people who give of themselves and help others. Doing good and making a difference in people’s lives is what should inspire people. You have a pretty amazing career for one so young, how do you keep yourself grounded? My mother always says to me that fame is not the most important thing in life. Being a good person is the most important thing life. Being grounded is easy when you have the right people in your life. I have an amazing family and I just feel really lucky to be able to do something that I love so much! I understand that you do a lot of charity work, including helping your gran to deliver meals on wheels to the elderly. Why do you think this is important? Giving back to people and helping others is one of the most important things you can do.

FEBRUARY HALF TERM 2013 ISSUE

I like hands on stuff. I’ll go pick up trash, serve food, clean someone’s yard, deliver food or go talk to other kids at schools or Boys and Girls Clubs. My family has always been big on doing things to help others and it an important way of life for me. It makes me feel good inside to help other people. I like to go and talk to other kids and encourage them to get out and try and help others. You have already achieved so much, what ambitions do you have for the future? Is there anyone you would particularly like to work with? As far as the future goes, I have some things on my wish list. I get a little superstitious so I try not to talk about them, I just hope they come true someday What advice would you give to other young people who have dreams of getting into acting? I love acting with all my heart! If you love acting with all your heart, then you should never give up. Keep working toward that goal. Take acting classes or get involved in your local theatre. And sometimes when you give to others, you never know what you might be given back!
