Christmas is a time of over indulgence and the New Year is definitely the time to start a fresh and lose all that excess weight. How do you know which diet to follow? There are so many and not all of them seem to work. Where to start? 1. Start exercising If you are over weight you should start with gentle exercise. Try walking 1/2 a mile each day. You can then build this up to walking a mile slightly faster every other day. You should be aiming to exercise for 30 minutes, a minimum of three times a week. This will increase your muscle tone and more importantly the strength of your heart. 2. Improve your diet Don't head for the fast weight lose diets. Most of these diets are designed for you to lose weight quickly but you need to keep the weight off to have made a success of it. Eating low carb diets can be too restrictive and can be unsustainable. Starvation diets can be more dangerous for your health than beneficial, as your body still needs it's full intake of calories and vitamins to support your bodies functions. The best advice is to follow a varied diet that is full of fresh vegetables and low fat foods. 3. Try something different To help with the motivation (which is always the hardest part) why not try joining a class. This should be targeted at improving your new passion for losing weight. This could be anything from a healthy eating cookery programme or how about joining the ramblers to get some exercise and meet like minded people that are trying to do the same as you.
