P.U.L. VISITS THE BATTLESHIP IOWA... by Chris Travers
USS Iowa (BB-61) was the lead ship of her class of battleship and the fourth in the United States Navy. During World War II, she carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic to Mers El Kébir, Algeria for a crucial 1943 meeting in Tehran with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet leader Josef Stalin. Wow, what history was contained within this ship. Little did we know that we were in for the education of our lives. Once aboard ship, we were quickly adopted by one of the Docents, Joe who proceeded to tell us the story of the Iowa in great detail. You see Joe actually served aboard the Iowa and had not only the knowledge, but his own photo collection to back everything up! We toured from deck to deck and cabin to cabin taking everything in. We even talked Joe into being our guest continued on pages 6-7 for a picnic lunch.

President’s Page... DRIVERLESS TRUCKS... by Steve Stillwell
The Not-So-Distant Future will have trucks that drive themselves! Automotive car and truck manufacturers use a variety of marketing tools to keep their company at the forefront of sales. We have seen in recent years that our Detroit car (truck) makers literally fell asleep at the wheel when it came to staying ahead of the competition and new truck technology. Mainly, who was making vehicles with fantastic fuel mileage when gas prices were soaring and the big petroleum companies have no conscience when it comes to gouging us at the pumps. Maybe a few years too late, Ford, GM and Chrysler awoke to the idea that simply having a bigger, more powerful, gas-guzzling pickup was not the most popular type of truck (and car) to deliver to the U.S. market. Before that problem is solved, now it seems that the big focus is on delivering cars and trucks which are loaded with driver assist features that allow us (the driver) to literally go hands-free at freeway speeds. You have all seen it on TV, cars that simply park themselves without any assistance from the driver maneuvering the wheel or operating the gas and brake pedals. Now there is more on the horizon. Here comes the next wallop; driverless cars and trucks. If you thought your current new car has way too many computers and electronic devices to be relatively dependable and affordable to be fixed, the big three are about to introduce vehicles loaded with numerous ultra sonic sensors, radar systems and cameras which scan the road from the rearview mirror, grille and tail lamps. An on-board computer will then collect data and provide you with park assist (already available) as well as assisted steering, warn the driver about impending road hazards and even apply the brakes when an crash is imminent. While it is called “Driver Assist” at this point, many drivers who have test driven pre-production vehicles completely divorced themselves of any form of being in-control when it actually came to driving the vehicle. Maybe this is a test, but how many drivers will soon begin to use these features when they feel the need to apply make-up, text or make a call to a best friend. I read this as Detroit innovation gone bad as these safety nets will all too often become an excuse for not having to stay in full control of a vehicle during driving conditions. Interesting that insurance companies are considering offering discounts to vehicle owners equipped with automatic braking systems. Here’s the kicker. U.S. safety officials may soon rule that ALL new vehicles be factory equipped with “collision mitigating braking.” Car makers say the system will reduce damage by reducing impact, not prevent impact! Wouldn’t it be safer to have the driver stay in control? The future is here for some models as Ford’s 2013 has a driver assist package for the Fusion priced at around $30,000. A 2014 Mercedes will be factory equipped with 3-D road imaging if you are ready to delve out $90,000+ and Cadillac will be offering their buyers Super Cruise a hands-free system. I just hope GM adds a buzzer to wake up those Cadillac drivers when the light goes green! After gathering data for this column, I really know that I am driving an antique Ford truck. I have to turn a key to start it, pull a knob to turn on the lights, step on a switch to dim the headlamps, twist a knob to increase radio volume, steer the wheel to stay in my lane, turn the wheel when I need to park, and yes, step on the gas to go, and brake pedal to stop. I’m comfortable with this old system. In closing, Frank Silva, owner of Cruisin’ T’s succumbed to Leukemia on July 26th. He will be missed. VP Report... Call it Done!
by Ed Oe It is a never ending process... Building a truck. It might start off as a fun thing to do with your son, grandson or just something you need to do because you had one as a kid. Whatever your reason might be they are never done. You can call it done but as soon as you drive down the road or get that latest copy of your favorite truck magazine the creative juices start to flow. Or when you are having a cold one sitting in your garage checking out your latest wax job and notice you can do this or that to look cool or just because its the right thing to do, they are never done. From all the trucks I have been around from east to west they all have that personal touch to say “It’s Mine” that’s what make us different from the rest. We all have a story to tell and we all are creating new stories that we share each time we see each other. One of the best thing I have done since owning this creative piece of metal we call a classic truck was to join Pickups Limited. Now I know some of you might not dig the club thing and want to be that lone wolf which you really can never be during this process of getting it done, you need help on your path to “Done”. But after I joined in 2005 and getting to know these guys, this club is what I needed to help me on my never ending quest to “Done”. This club has taken my mind to the next level of creative thinking with the right talents I can count on to help me expand my wildest dreams and mess me up even more. When I think I have the right idea on doing something I share this with my follow members. They might give me suggestions on my idea or in most cases a totally different way of doing it. But what I can count on is help so now there are two of us looking at something that’s taking us to a place of no return. So whatever you reason for starting or continuing to work on your finished truck. They are never done and if you ever believe they are just attend our next meeting and look out into the faces of our members and you will see the juices flowing in everyone’s eyes. Just waiting for that moment when the meeting is done to pop that members hood open and stick our heads into that engine compartment to continue our process of “Done”. The Show-n-Shine was held at Tidelands Park in Morro Bay. It started in the morning at 8:00 a.m. and entries in the show were able to park on the grass at Tidelands Park right next to the water in Morro Bay. Weather was cloudy and cool at first but the sun came out later in the day showing off the colors of the trucks much more effectively. The show was judged with hoods and doors opened on participating vehicles. At 12:00 noon the “High Noon Hot Wheels Races” were held. If you entered, and even if you did not win you still were able to keep your Hot Wheels car or truck. The show ended at 3:00 p.m. and preparations were made to attend the dinner that evening. The dinner was held at the Morro Bay Community Center so that everyone was able to fit in one room. Dinner was good, and pretty much an all you can eat buffet style meal. Specialties were Tri-Tip Beef and Baked Chicken. After dinner there was a slide show presentation of the weekend events and awards were handed out. Bill Crisel won an award for “The Truck Most in need of Bedwood” because he had none. Bill also won a “Top Twenty” award. Another OCPUL winner of “Top Twenty” was Bob Busick. “Big Mike” of San Gabriel PUL won the “Best Use of Rust” award for the second maybe even the third time in a row. Best of Show Award went to a nice yellow 1956 Big Window owned by Larry and Yolanda Squarcia. A very prestigious award named in honor of Preston Ledbetter was handed out to Al and Pam Ubrun for their dedication to the North South Run in recent years. Preston was one of the founders of the North South Run who passed away about six years ago who was devoted to the Ford F-100. The evening drew to a close with the raffle and Super Raffle Money giveaway. Big winners of the raffle were Randy Ledbetter and family. Next year the North-South Run has been rumored to return to the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo. Otherwise it could be held once again in Morro Bay. That all depends on the consensus of the comment sheets turned in at the end of the evening Saturday night. Look for the date in mid August of 2014.

Battleship Iowa... from page 1 Anyway, back to the tour. The thing that was really hard to grasp was the overall size of everything. I mean 16” guns! Come on... That’s unreal. Just check out the photo to the right showing the size of one round as compared to Sue Nelson who stands about 5’3”. It was difficult to imagine that this ship was built at a time when there was no laser cutting, tig welding, or Auto-Cad programs that we have today. Everything was engineered by hand and it worked. There are a few unique things that us car guys kept looking at, scratching our heads. I mean it was hard enough helping Rudy install a new wiring harness from American Auto Wire that was fully marked and color coded, but in the military, all wires are the same color with only numbers to signify what went where. No thanks on that one.
Sign below a bank of Tomahawk Missles
Many of the fixtures had been restored to near original status including the Presidential cabin and War rooms. The other thing to keep in mind is that this ship still belongs to the Navy and can be placed into action within 6 months if required.

OK, which one is the hot wire?
Our tour ended with more free-style wandering about while stopping in their theater to see some simulations of the Iowa in action in the Pacific Theater during WWII. This experience brought so much reality to this experience that it sent chills up my spine. Yes as recently as the Vietnam Conflict, the Iowa was in action protecting our freedom that we have often taken for granted. On a lighter side, we saw a real life on the water version of a tow truck as a boater had to be hauled in by the Harbor Patrol. Rudy was quick to point out that one of his Safety Checks might have prevented the breakdown.
Everything looked reaty for action... ...except for Norm that is
We left the ship and wandered through San Pedro on our way to the Busy Bee Market for some sandwiches. This place is locally world famous for great food at a reasonable price, and lots of it. Norm couldn’t wait. With food in hand, we drove across the Portuguese Bend area to Point Vincente Park for a picnic overlooking the Pacific. Our tour guide Joe joined in, catching a F-100 ride with Glenn. In all it was a perfect ending to a perfect day. Make some time to visit this historic ship and relive a time in our past that will never be duplicated.
Even though it is still called a market, all the Busy Bee really sells is the best sandwich in the area
The line was out the door on a Saturday!

Our tour continued through lunch. Joe was a vault of information. We didn’t want the day to end.

Editor’s Ramblings... When did You get the Car Bug? by Chris Travers
Who really knows where it all started or when, but most of us seem to have a serious problem. Our wives and neighbors often think we are crazy. Some of us (like the famous Barry Meguiar) even say it out loud... WE ARE CAR CRAZY! For me I think it started with issues of Sports Car Graphic that I would read while hanging around the slot car track. I would love to read about the cars then try to build one myself. Soon that British Racing Green with the yellow stripe that Lotus had on all their cars stuck with me and wouldn’t let go. Jimmy Clark and Dan Gurney were my heros and just the look of those Spaghetti Bend headers would put me into orbit. I loved also reading about the Mini Coopers having their way with much larger cars on the road courses and in the Monte Carlo Rally. Those thoughts and images have stuck with me to this day. Yep, that’s when it all started. Once I moved along to high school, things became more real for me. Besides meeting the love of my life Christine, I found this stuff in my pocket called MONEY! If never lasted too long but it did go for important stuff like going to Lions Drag Strip (instead of the library) to “run what you brung”. Boy I thought I was hot stuff with a ‘63 VW that would dip into the 15’s. Along with my friend Big John who most of you already know, we build the motor, re-did the suspension and did a bit of body and paint work. Well, at least I thought that I was cool at the time but the car would probably still hold it’s own today in the looks department. Several other cars came and went as “life” and kids arrived. Those cars included the first model of the Toyota SR-5, Christine’s Opal Kadett, a Dodge Tradesman Van, then a Ford E-100 Van. Each one had a cool paint job and of course, custom wheels and tires installed on the way home from the car lot. Then came the dark ages... we bought a Volvo. Back then a true Volvo owner would strive for the Million Mile badge to place proudly on the grill. With the badge installed, those owners would then state “A Volvo does not accelerate, it gains momentum!” The car was safe which is why we bought it, but what a piece of crap it was to service. Then is was into the business world. I took my Father-In-Law’s Chevy C-10, built a stake bed along with the 454 and had a real hauler. I remember a friend borrowing it for the day and returning it with a sign on the dash saying “you can never have too much horse power”. This thing really hauled ass with things like headers, custom carb, and a bunch of machine work linked to a built Turbo 400. Custom paint and interrior really made it a nice work truck. 8 www.pickupslimited.com

Everything was going along nicely but there was something missing. The old dreams and images were still there and I thought, SOMEDAY! That day came when a customer of mine drove into the lot with one of my dream cars, The Mini Cooper. He took me for a ride and that was it. I NEEDED this car really bad. As luck would have it, he had another one as a project car. We struck a deal and a pile of parts and body shell appeared on a trailer. I was in heaven, Christine thought I was nuts. The car was painted you guessed it, British Racing Green and was even featured in the British publication Mini World. BUT THE CAR CRAZY BUG WAS STILL CHEWING AWAY. Fast forward to about 15 years ago. I really wanted a truck. John and I were roaming around the Pomona Swap Meet when we ran into Henry Morris who was a member of PUL’s Pomona Chapter at the time. Henry was selling this big orange F-100. It was love at first sight. I had to have it. We went round and round for about 6 weeks before Henry saw the light and we came to terms and as they say, the rest is history that brings us to today. By the way, next time you see my truck with the hood open, check out those Spaghetti Bend headers. Do you think I should paint the truck British Racing Green???

Heap of the Week! Bob was sitting on the plane to Detroit when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear. “What’s the matter?” Bob asked. “I’ve been transferred to Detroit and there are crazy people there. They’ve got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest crime rate in the nation.” Bob replied, “I’ve lived in Detroit all my life. It’s not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, and enroll your kids in a nice private school. It’s as safe a place as anywhere in the world.” The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, “Oh, thank you. I’ve been worried to death. But if you live there and say it’s OK, I’ll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?”
“I’m a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck.”
My Road Rage Is Gone . . . I no longer have problems with road rage. You may not have known I had issues with road rage. However, since I picked up my new bike people no l onger seem to annoy me any more. Maybe I have mellowed. Just wanted to let you guys know I'm over all of that now. 10 www.pickupslimited.com

Pickups Limited of Orange County is the featured club at the next Pomona Swap Meet on October 20th. The first 20 that RSVP will receive complimentary passes which allow entry for a club vehicle, driver and 1 passenger. We have already passed the initial deadline to save these free passes so they are available to any Ford truckers that make the request. We have reserved “front row” parking and are asked to have club members are in place by 6am Sunday, Oct. 20, as it can get difficult saving the space and tough getting vehicles into the space once things get really busy. Members are allowed to enter as early as 9am Saturday, Oct. 19, if they wish. Gate 15 on Arrow Hwy. opens at 9am Saturday and is open day and night throughout the event Sunday. We will leave the I-HOP parking lot (57 freeway and Arrow Highway) be a meeting spot so that we can cruise in together. Over the years we have had a ton of fun at this event so lets get together and make this one the best ever. ALL CHAPTERS ARE WELCOME! RSVP to Chris@pickupslimited.com

What Is SAN?
The SEMA Action Network (SAN) is a nationwide partnership between vehicle clubs, enthusiasts and members of the specialty auto parts industry who want to protect their hobby. Founded in 1997, the SAN was designed to help stamp out legislative threats to the automotive hobby and pass favorable laws. The SAN regularly: • Rallies the support of 3,000-plus car clubs, thousands of individual contacts, and 100-plus publications, with an estimated reach of 36 million enthusiasts nationwide, amplifying SEMA’s political voice on issues affecting the specialty equipment auto parts industry. • Sends out action alerts to generate an abundance of responses to state and/or federal legislative actions and regulatory proposals. • Issues timely updates of legislative and regulatory developments. THERE ARE NO COSTS, FEES OR HASSLES to participate in the SAN. The concept is simple: SEMA provides detailed, regularly updated information on legislative and regulatory issues that impact your hobby. The more hands that touch this information, the more eyes that read this information and the more people that stand up and do something about this information… the more effectively we protect our hobby. If action is required, we will urge SAN members to contact legislators and regulators to express support or opposition to a particular bill or proposal that directly affects the automotive hobby. The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), is a non-profit trade association composed of more than 6,800 member companies including manufacturers and distributors, representing the specialty equipment automotive industry. All combined, the markets add up to over $34 billion in retail business annually. On behalf of our industry, we are fighting to preserve the rights of enthusiasts to use and enjoy their vehicles. United groups of automotive hobbyists are a proven political force. To date, SAN efforts nationwide have resulted in positive outcomes on a wide range of issues, including vehicle scrappage ("clunker") laws, equipment standards, registration classifications, emissions-test exemptions, and hobbyist rights. You can be certain that these issues will continue to pop up at the state and federal level in the future. You can make a difference by joining SAN now! The information SAN provides you: • Timely notice of legislative/regulatory developments in your state and nationwide trends. • Sample letters to forward to state legislators urging specific action. • Talking points for conversations and meetings with state legislators. We hope you will join the SAN, which currently has contacts in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada. If you would like to become a contact, join the SEMA Action Network today at www.semasan.com

Have You Applied for California’s New Legacy License Plates? As you are aware, legislation was enacted in 2012 to establish the California Legacy License Plate Program. Assemblymember Mike Gatto, the sponsor of the new law, has recently provided SEMA with production samples of the plates that replicate plates from the state's past which you can see on page 16. The plates have been available for pre-order using form REG 17L which is available at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/legacyplates/index.htm. The plates cost $50 for non-personalized or personalized plates. Consumers may choose from one of three classic designs from the 1950’s-1960’s. However, the law only allows until January 1, 2015 to reach the required minimum 7,500 pre-orders for any one of the plate styles. Currently, none of the plates have reached the required number of applications. FOR • Black lettering on yellow background:.......1,213 applications received OUR TRUCKS • Yellow lettering on black background:....... 4,224 applications received • Yellow lettering on blue background:............901 applications received
If 7,500 applications are not received by Jan. 1, 2015, any fees paid for the California Legacy plates will be refunded to the applicant. This is something that will add that extra touch to your classic truck so get on the stick and place your order now!

Car Appreciation Day July 12, 2013
Automotive enthusiasts, car clubs, organizations and affiliated businesses participated in celebrations to honor the fourth annual Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD). A wide range of official events were held in the United States, Canada and Australia to commemorate the day throughout the month of July including this event in Diamond Bar at the SEMA Headquarters. This special day was designated by U.S. Senate Resolution 176 sponsored by Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) at the request of the SAN. The U.S. Senate Resolution recognizes “that the collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States.” Lawmakers in states, counties and local areas all over the country and Canada have followed the Senate’s lead. This year, New Mexico, New York, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Madera County, California and Washington Parish, Louisiana joined the U.S. Senate in proclaiming Collector Car Appreciation Day. The SAN would like to thank everyone who supported our hobby’s “holiday” this year. Stay tuned for the announcement of next year’s celebration! Hauln’ Freight • SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2013

Give Me A Brake... by Glenn Kerr
YOU’LL GET A CHARGE OUT OF THIS Every car comes with one. Some trucks and late model cars even have two. But some motorists never give this particular component a second thought. What am I talking about? Your car’s battery. New car, old truck. The principles are the same. Technological advances have made “maintenance free” batteries the standard today. However, the term “maintenance free” is a misnomer, one that can leave you stranded if you don’t perform proper and regular maintenance. Battery maintenance isn’t difficult to do, so let’s take a look at what you can do to keep your truck or car running. We’re going to focus on traditional ”maintenance free” batteries. If you have “vintage” style, just about the only difference is you’ll have to check the water level often. But that discussion is for another day. If your battery is of the sealed variety, as most of them today are, then the “maintenance free” label is still only partially true since the term only means you need to add water to the cells as you would with an unsealed battery. With any type of car battery - sealed or unsealed - you must do the following to help keep it working properly:
Cleanliness Is The Key
Clean the cables. Disconnect the cables from the battery and clean them with a wire brush that has been doused in a home made mixture of one tablespoon of baking soda with one cup of water. Use this same mixture to clean off the top of the battery; use a small and clean paint brush to apply the solution where needed.
The Post Pattern
Top posts on batteries need to be cleaned bright and shiny where the cable connects. There’s a bunch of amps that need a clean, secure connection.
The Side Connection
Many batteries have side connections. These use bolts, usually part of the cable, to secure 18 www.pickupslimited.com
Hauln’ Freight • SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2013
the cable to the battery. They also need to be sparkling clean.
Cables
Corrosion, that green or white stuff that grows on battery connections is bad stuff. It can even migrate down the cable into the covered part. When that happens it needs to be cut back and a new cable end installed or the cable replaced.
A Word On Connection Types
Those quick cable ends that use to ¼” bolts to hold a plate to clamp the cable are at best a temporary fix. A soldered or crimped style must be used for the best current flow. No flow it’s no go.
Other Connections
Besides the connection between the cable and the battery posts, make sure that the ground connection is clean and secure. Also don’t neglect the solenoid and/or starter connections. It may look good and tight, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to check it. I recently had a DNS (did not start) event with my truck. Yes... even I carry a AAA membership. After a lot of testing and some head scratching it turned out to be a bad ground connection from the battery to the engine. The bolt was tight, so how could this happen? I don’t know, it just does. Probably some dirt or corrosion on the cable end before I first put it on. Over time the resistance built up till it failed. That’s it! Car battery maintenance is an easy task and one that should be performed on an annual basis. If you keep your battery properly maintained, you will extend its life and greatly reduce the chance that your battery will fail you at an inopportune time, like on a run where EVERYBODY is watching. Remember “that guy”? You don’t want to be “that guy”.
As always, if you have any questions, please free to call me. And as always, if I don’t know the answer or can’t find one, I’ll make one up that sounds plausible.

Thursday, July 18, 2013 For the ninth year, the Torrance Historical Society organized and hosted the 1950’s-style summer event, Rock Around the Block in Old Town Torrance. The afternoon’s festivities included a cakewalk, bubblegum blowing contest which was won FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW by our own Sally Marshall, hula hoop competition, games of jacks and hopscotch, and a pie-eating contest in which our Norm Marshall and Chris Travers were big time loosers in as Joe Chandlee watched on. Included in the free festivities were vintage cars on display along Post Avenue courtesy of the Cruisin’ 50s Car Club, Touring A’s and local car owners Bop to ‘50s music. The estimated 1,200 people in attendance were able to walk up and down the street engaging with different booths and vendors, including In-N-Out Burger and the local fire department that was demonstrating CPR procedures to add more educational elements to the fun summer event. The Torrelles, a group of City employees who sing ‘50s and ‘60s songs a cappella, also provided the guests with entertainment. The free event was hosted in partnership with the City of Torrance, Torrance Historical Society, Torrance Bakery, COSTCO, DJ Ozzie and the Old Torrance Neighborhood Association. 20 www.pickupslimited.com

Steve & Sally Nagamatsu’s ‘56
Steve tells the story of how this truck was purchased by his younger brother around 1975. He completely disassembled the truck to a frame off restoration. Everything was sandblasted to bare metal, primed (as seen in the pics) and repainted. It is a small window 1956 with a 390cu. in. Ford and a C6 automatic transmission. The photos are from around the 1980 time frame. He performed a complete the painting of the truck in a dark metallic brown, but then it was shelved to complete the remodel of a couple of houses. Watch for some updated photos soon.
THE M&M DUEL... thanks to Jim Dillinger for this one from the F-100 Elites Newsletter Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels. Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the “loser,” and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round. I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theatre of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world. Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment. When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to: M&M Mars A Division of Mars, Inc. Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 along with a 3x5 card reading, “Please use this M&M for breeding purposes.” This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this “grant money.” I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.
There can be only one. 22 www.pickupslimited.com

Bigfoot Speaks... by Rudy Weber
WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A VEHICLE COLLISION
* First attend to the medical needs of anyone involved. Call 911 if necessary, but remember that number is for emergencies only. *When there are no injuries, move your vehicle out of traffic to the nearest place of safety. *Notify the department of the California Highway Patrol or the police department of the city in which the collision occurred. *Exchange driver license, vehicle registration, and insurance information with other driver or drivers. *Do not accept or place any blame. Your insurance company has people trained to determine who is at fault. *Gather contact information from possible witnesses. *Take a moment to write down details of the collision, such as; time of the day, traffic conditions, weather conditions and the events that led up to the collision. *Remember, vehicle collisions are not accidents. An alcohol related vehicle collision is just that, a vehicle collision because the term ( accident) implies that these collisions, deaths, and injuries are unavoidable. In fact, alcohol related collisions are predictable and preventable because drinking and driving is the conscious choice of the driver. Never drink and drive or ride with someone who has been drinking. Please be responsible. KEEP ON TRUCKING Big Foot Speaks. Rudy Weber PS. Again safety checks for all our new and some old members are due, call me to set up a meeting.

1948 - 1956 FORD F-1 & F-100 TRUCK ABOUT US
Pickups Limited began in April, 1968 as the result of an ad placed in the Penny Saver. Our Orange County Chapter is the oldest and currently the largest of 7 Chapters found throughout Southern California, with membership limited to 1948-56 F-1 and F-100 pickups and panels. We are an active non-profit organization. Each June we host the largest all Ford truck show in the Western United States, the F-100 Western Nationals while every January we produce Jeff’s Fun Run, a poker run throughout the car culture of LA and Orange Counties. Our business meetings are on the second Thursday of each month at Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park (info below) and we usually plan one group outing each month. Check the flip side of this flyer for a sample of Pickups Limited’s Orange County Chapter events. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• Where can I buy an F-100? You would be surprised where they show up. Trucks can be found on E-bay, Auto and Truck Trader and in Drive magazine as well as various F-1 & F-100 on-line sites including pickupslimited.com and at many of the local cruise events. You might even find one in your own neighborhood! If you feel adventurous, you can even build a brand new 1956 F-100 from parts that many vendors provide! • Where can I get parts and repairs? Check the flip side for a listing of great vendors that support Pickups Limited. • Can I do repairs myself? Many of us do most of the mechanical tasks ourselves. That’s half the fun. There also are many books available from mechanical to paint and body to interior total restoration. • Do I have to own a truck to join? Yes but it can be a work in progress. The love for the truck is what comes first. If you are looking for a truck, maybe we can help. • Do I have to be a member to participate in Club events? Not at all! Non members are always welcome. But if you do a "Run" in something other than a F-1 or F-100, we might ask you to follow the pack. • How can I get a ride in a F-100? Show up at a meeting or event and ask! • How can I join Pickups Limited? Come to a meeting or one of our events for the first step. There is a basic probationary period required. • Do I need special insurance for such an old vehicle? Not really, it depends on the value of the truck. Many companies will offer premium coverage although there are speciality insurance carriers that can insure your baby for the full stated value.
