Wij hebben PulpdeLuxe Magazine
Some carry businesscards, others voice via storefronts. We have PulpdeLuxe Magazine. PulpdeLuxe Magazine is made by freethinkers from all different corners, wormholes and disciplines. Photographers, text writers and advertisers alongside philosophers and hairdressers. PulpdeLuxe is the platform, the think tank and network that we share. PulpdeLuxe’s magazine can be seen as our common business card. If there’s anything in this magazine that stands out to you in terms of layout, editing, image, content, copywriting or whatever? The independent creators of the magazine are available in separate or random combinations.

Forward crossroads
You should all have been doing something else as you’re reading this. Doing your jobs for example; pulling us all out of this crisis. Now, reading PdLM10 is probably not such a bad idea. In this issue of PdLM10, we scorch and slap a minister of state, cut ourselves on thorns, vent our anger towards big business, shop alongside Ellen Willink, stay at The American, listen to a song and do much more. Apparently, there are still people who don’t get what we do. And to be honest: sometimes we don’t really know either. But luckily we have you: loyal followers and early adapters and believers. People who understand that you can’t and shouldn’t understand everything. Despite of all this, this 10th issue puts us where we planned to be two years ago. PulpdeLuxeMagazine is the crossroads for eco, funny, ethical, esthetical, green, fair and solidary. That, and thwart. Although being thwart isn’t exactly distinctive anymore; if anything it’s mainstream. Let’s just be thwart to that, though. Originally, we planned to have some famous Dutchmen in this issue but this turned out to be quite hard to pull off. So we’ll go ahead and do it without them. But with Bert Wagendorp, which makes us all the more proud. People, please enjoy your read and acknowledge cross connections and double layers while you do so. And forget to promote PdLM.

Last year marked the year of the bee. However, the little buggers aren’t doing too well. Despite this, they fulfill a vital role in the food chain. Consequently, all of us humans - along with our businesses and relationships - suffer. In other words, take action now and save the bee! Bee: we can’t do without them. de Luxe

StoereVrouwen (ToughWomen) use a fair rose to point out the ‘Power of the Fair Trade Flower’ campaign, which concerns working conditions of African women working in the flower industry. Despite the nice stories that the governmental spokesperson of developmental collaboration, Lilianne Ploumen, has told us, the situation in the African flower industry is all but rosy. On a yearly basis, billions of flowers are shipped from Africa to the Netherlands. These flowers are grown and picked by women, often in very dire working conditions. Elementary working rights are violated, sexual abuse is common and many are exposed to pesticides, causing major health problems. StoereVrouwen takes action to ensure that Dutch shops sell fair roses, causing women in Africa to have a chance for a better existence.
50 shades of red Surf on down to www.powerofthefairtradeflower.nl/50tinten and sign the petition to support women in the flower industry in Africa..
About Stoerevrouwen StoereVrouwen is a growing network of over 1500 conscious shoppers who, together, form an army of critical consumers. By positive and remarkable actions, such as the Groene Sint and the Strip for Fair Fashion campaign, they stimulate each other, shopkeepers and producers to change for the better.
Over Hivos Hivos is a development organization who battles against poverty, oppression and discrimination. The campaign ‘Power of the Fair Trade Flower’ is used by Hivos to increase the supply of fair flowers on the Dutch market and to make this process visible to the consumer. Improve the world, start with the rose!

Ellen Willink Ellen Willink of Ecolabel designs slow fashion. PulpdeLuxeMagazine proudly shows her recycle-bags with a message. To do so, we’ve strapped the bags to top model Marianne, producing quite the result! Not only are the bags a lot of fun, they also make one look slim. Marianne was quite the Hinkucker during our shoot, so the looking slim came in quite handy. All of the bags are as unique as they are beautiful. We’re short of superlatives as we applaud Ellen Willink’s work, but we are fans.

A rainco packs a N
ow that spring is near, the use of raincoats diminishes. Just when you think you’re finally done with winter, spring surprises by dealing you some ‘favorable’ weather. As you brave the terrors of the elements on your bicycle or on foot, you ask yourself why you didn’t take your car. The gadget-to-get this spring is a biodegradable raincoat that degrades when it blows off of you and lands in nature. This makes the coat real friendly to the environment. Besides, the tiny seed next to your navel will – in time – pop out an actual tree! If this isn’t reason enough for you to stick your nose outside when it’s pissing down, then we don’t know what is.

This is probably the coolest, durable, gadgetcar of all time. It’s green, authentic but still accurate. Over ten million of these beautiful golden chariots were built and many of them are still in use 50 years later.
This was the toy that you wanted to have back in the 60’s, if only because it had an extendible gun and folding bullet shield. And – the best of all – an ejection seat with a bad guy that you could get rid of in the middle of your makeshift high-speed chase. And of course James Bond himself behind the wheel, always headed for new adventure.

Eloise and Mignon with quality from PulpdeLuxe first met Eloise at the national ‘StoereVrouwen Fair Fashion Event’ at Studio K. This is where the Eloise est Mignonne models would gallivant on the catwalk. We meet the beautiful girls from Eloise again at the prestigious Amsterdam American Hotel and talk to designer Leontien Konijn. Seducing
Leontien starts off on a flattering note: “The Eloise woman actually matches PulpdeLuxeMagazine! PDLM is a gutsy magazine with a fresh perspective.” Leontien consequently fits right into the American. “You feel the 180 year old hotel ooze class, experience and authenticity. Guests are seduced and tempted by the interior and grandeur from the past.”

Fashionweek
Leontien is presenting her collection at the temporary pop-up store in Amsterdam during this year’s fashionweek. The models stride in a succeeding fashion, as if they are music playing lightly in the background. By doing so, they give a sneak preview of the new ‘canals collection’. The Amsterdam canals have been around for 400 years now, and Leontien has taken this occasion to show off her dresses. “Kelly is wearing the Prinsengracht dress with a jacket and the ‘Jade’ dress by Lana was dedicated to the Herengracht. Irene and Kim are wearing the ‘Bloemengrachten”: the canals in the Jordaan. “A lack of beauty and quality make me sad.”

Timeless
“I think it’s important to add to quality and beauty myself. That’s why I use my label Eloise est Mignonne to make feminine clothing, where fit and quality of fabric are key. Timeless! Fashion has changed; quality and beauty are durable and certainly not bound to a time-frame.”

The Eloise woman The Eloise woman is confident and can take on the world. She loves beauty and quality and chases the finer aspects of life by giving in to her curiosity. She cherishes art and culture, enjoys visiting the cinema or a concert and acknowledges society. She seeks her clothing in extraordinary shops and grocery shops at, for example, Marqt. “Like the Eloise woman, I love authentic beauty and like searching for things of true value.” “Like the Eloise woman, I love authentic beauty.”

Wish “My wish is for me to keep on making beautiful things for my label Eloise est Mignonne and to give others pleasure by doing so. What I want is for beauty and quality to be self-evident again in fashion. I consider this my mission, and wish to spread it all around! There’s so many designs left in my head for me to use.” “What I want is for beauty and quality to be self-evident again in fashion.”
Will you be an Eloise woman? “It’s excellent for magazines like PulpdeLuxe to understand that experience of beauty and to provide a platform.”

leutel dertien Upcycle Fashion by Sleutel Dertien (Key Thirteen). Lizzie Jansen of Sleutel Dertien collects lots of discarded materials to magically turn them into own creations. She gives things a new function by for example turning an old umbrella into a skirt. A neat, grey suit is often boring and dull on the outside, but all the more interesting on the inside. So flip that 3-piece-bore inside out! Another example is the fabric that she makes out of washing instructions that sits inside of garments. When you already know how to wash a particular piece of clothing, those pesky little pieces are only in the way. “But when you sow it together it becomes something of beauty with a chique appearance, because those little tickets are often quite silky and smooth.” Upcycling is a matter of observing and spotting opportunities. Use your imagination and fantasy, and dare to switch things up a bit every now and then; you’ll see that you and the world around you will be amazed with your “inspiring creativity”.
