HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NEWDAY!
LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23 REV. ELIZABETH GILBERT

Happy Birthday, NewDay! Rev. Elizabeth Gilbert Lamentations 3:22-23
PUMC made a commitment to what some call ‘contemporary worship’ over a decade ago. Up until just one year ago, PUMC’s contemporary praise worship (NewDay Praise) was hosted in the main sanctuary. Through a process of prayer, exploration, and discernment leadership made the commitment to give this worship the space and time slot on Sunday it needed to flourish. Just one year ago NewDay Praise moved into its new space with a new vision and a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm. The Bible promises that “...the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning...” We gather in NewDay Praise Worship every Sunday to celebrate God’s faithfulness in each new day - of new life itself - lived with and for God. This weekend we gather with a special purpose - to celebrate all that God has done in and through NewDay Praise Worship over this last year. As we celebrate our first birthday in the new worship space, we thank God for his goodness and grace, for new friends in Christ who have become a part of this worshiping community, for the joy we have in serving together, and for all that we trust God will do in and through NewDay Praise Worship in the future. Happy Birthday, NewDay! And here’s to many more!

e are so glad to welcome you to worship this morning!
If you are new to PUMC, you are invited to stop by the Welcome Center located in the south lobby. A PUMC member is there to answer your questions, and we have a gift for you, too! In Clayton Hall (north end of building) you’ll find refreshments and a place to chat and meet people. Please make yourself at home.
Work Team to Costa Rica in 2018 PUMC is sending a mission work team to Costa Rica in 2018. You can help them get there with a simple purchase that you may already be making... Many people now send gift cards for a variety of celebratory events-birthdays, anniversaries, etc. When you give these kinds of gifts you can also support the Costa Rica work team. It’s simple:
• Purchase a gift card (known for this purpose as scrip) through PUMC. You
(or your gift recipient) receive the full face value of the gift card. But through special arrangement with various providers, the Costa Rica mission team receives a percentage of your purchase, sometimes up to 11% of face value.
• Give your gift card as a gift, or spend it yourself! To purchase, visit the display in the Main Lobby today or contact LeeAnn Overbey at CostaRica2018@pumc.org. To learn more about this gift card program or the 2018 Costa Rica mission trip, please contact trip organizers LeeAnn, Mike Rohrer, or Steve Brizendine, through the church office. Thanks for letting your gift giving provide an extra gift of support for mission in Costa Rica! You can also provide financial support for this mission trip when you shop at Kroger. Learn more in the Main Lobby on Sundays, January 8, 15, and 22.
Get Their Name in February at PUMC February brings another engaging all-church worship and study experience to PUMC. The four-week series, Get Their Name, encourages participants to grow in their faith and invite others to experience the same joy they know in Jesus in ways that are natural, genuine, and easy. Be a part of a small group for this series and learn and grow with others. Signups begin today, in the Main Lobby. Groups are scheduled nearly every day of the week in February – there is one that will fit your schedule! A donation of $10 is suggested (but not required) for the participant book. Learn more about resources at the display at PUMC on Sundays in January. You can help make this a formational – and transformational – experience for group participants by leading a small group. To express interest, contact Pastor Ken Loudenback at kloudenback@pumc. org. Orientation for group leaders is on Sundays, January 8 and 15.
Game Day in NewDay, February 5
Th3rd Sunday Lunch January 15, 2017
Sunday, February 5, is game day across America. Invite a friend to NewDay Praise Worship to hear from some NFL players about their life with Christ, on and off the field.
All are invited to January’s Th3rd Sunday Lunch.
And help make this a ‘souper’ Sunday for some hungry people. Bring canned soup to donate to the local food pantry.
Lunch is served after 11:10 a.m. Classic Worship, about 12:15 p.m., in Clayton Hall. If you are able, please bring a dish to share and join others for food, fellowship, and fun! Tea and lemonade will be provided for everyone and dishes and silverware will be used from the PUMC kitchen.
