RE AL As followers of Jesus, we each have our own story - our witness - of Jesus' work in our lives... the ways we've experienced and seen him. The call is to go and share that story with others. But for Jesus' story in us to be compelling and moving, it has to be real. Being real means different things to different people. There is subjective reality which applies to individuals those things that I know and have experienced and are unique to me. And then there is objective reality - those things that others can see and experience. Our personal witness is both subjective and objective. For it to be compelling and helpful it has to be real, and it has to be shared. To call oneself a Christian will be to put oneself in a position that will have opposition and a cost. The Good News is Jesus Christ is real and the ultimate price has already been paid. The Good News is - - Jesus Christ is real!

Classic Worship Notes Johann Sebastian Bach is the featured composer for today’s worship, and what a legacy he left on music for Protestant worship. Bach was a wellknown German composer from the 17th century, and was prolific in his writing. You see the letters BWV which mean “Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis” (or Bach-Works-Catalog), a cataloging system published in 1950. It assigns each of Bach’s 1126 compositions a unique BWV number, and puts them in order by genre. The prelude being played today on the organ is Prelude and Fugue in g Minor BWV 558. The choral anthem Crown Him King of Kings, was part of the Cantata Auf Schetternde Tone BWV 207. The postlude is the fugue from the Chromatic Fantasy in d Minor BWV 903, being played on the piano. What is a prelude? As a musical composition, a prelude is usually brief and is generally played as an introduction to another, larger musical piece. J.S. Bach was the most notable composer of preludes for organ. He often followed a prelude with a another form of music called the fugue which interweaves musical themes based on a single musical idea, somewhat similar to a round. When singing a round, the melody is sung at different times, like Row Row Row Your Boat. The postlude today is a fantasy, which when Bach was composing, meant improvisation. They rarely followed any traditional musical form and were in direct contrast to the highly structured fugue. A very devout Christian, Bach’s music fills much of today’s worship as we acknowledge his inspired artistry in speaking both to our hearts and our minds.

We are so glad to welcome you to worship this morning! If you are new to PUMC, you are invited to stop by the Welcome Center located in the south lobby. A PUMC member is there to answer your questions, and we have a gift for you, too! In Clayton Hall (north end of building) you’ll find refreshments and a place to chat and meet people. Please make yourself at home.

All Hands - and Helpers - on Deck One More Time! PUMC is taking advantage of energy rebates to upgrade lighting throughout the building. These upgrades will make for significant energy savings in the coming years. Additional savings are available if we provide the labor to do the installation ourselves. Will you help? On Wednesday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m., Steve Manning, PUMC Facilities Manager, is hosting what is hoped to be the last LED light work day. Tasks include: carrying light loads, removing trash, sweeping and clean-up, and simple electrical work. There is a job for everyone who wants to help. If you can help on Feb. 22, please mark your Connection Card this morning and Steve will be in touch. Thank you for helping PUMC realize thousands of dollars in savings and be more earth-friendly. Contact Steve directly at smanning@pumc.org or 317.839.2319, ext. 231.
