March 12, 2017 NewDay Praise Worship - 9:50 a.m.
Essence (Salt & Light) Michael Norton Matthew 5:13-16
Light and salt do not exist for themselves, but for the influence they have on other things. We are called to embody the unique properties of Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom in the way we live our lives. Teaching about Salt and Light “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT)
W

Chili Supper to Benefit PUMC Outreach PUMC United Methodist Women (UMW) invite you to a Chili Supper, March 17, 5-7 p.m. in Clayton Hall. Tickets are: $8 for adults $4 for ages 5-9 Free for ages 4 and under All proceeds benefit PUMC’s Last Saturday Lunch, a community-wide meal served at PUMC that feeds bodies and spirits the last Saturday of every month. Tickets are available at the door or prior to the event on Sundays February 26, and March 5 and 12 in the north & south lobbies at PUMC. Menu includes chili, chili mac, hotdogs, veggies, crackers and cornbread, desserts with ice cream, and beverage. Carry-out is available.
For the first time (ever!), PUMC will offer a community concert and worship experience called “Choral Evensong” on Sunday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. All are invited, and you may especially wish to invite a friend from the community – from outside of the PUMC family – to join as your guest. But what is Choral Evensong? What should you expect? First, arrive 10 minutes early to find your seat in the sanctuary and enjoy an especially gorgeous pipe organ prelude. Then you will experience a mix of choral music, congregational hymn singing, scripture, and prayers for the community – all in a setting of reverence, reflection and with an emphasis on beauty. Candlelight. Music enveloping your mind and soul. As part of the PUMC Concert Series which was launched last fall, Choral Evensong is offered to the PUMC congregation and to the entire community as we seek to build bridges with all persons through music. There are no tickets, and the event is free. Include this special musical experience in the middle of your Lenten season.

The Men’s Corner is open for Donations! Inside PUMC Door 14. It is time to clean out your closet and storage places! The men who are being released from the Plainfield Correctional Facility need clothing! This means anything a man wears is needed: dress and casual pants, jeans, shorts, dress and casual shirts, T-shirts, coats, jackets, shoes, underwear, socks, belts, etc. If you would like a receipt this can be provided, just contact the church office (317.839.2319). The state does not purchase things for the men. Your donations will help them start a new life after release. Thank you for your generosity.
Th3rd Sunday Lunch Everyone is invited to the Th3rd Sunday Lunch next Sunday, March 19. Lunch is served after 11:10 Classic Worship (about 12:15 p.m.) in Clayton Hall. If you are able, please bring a dish to share and join others for food, fellowship, and fun! Tea and lemonade will be provided for everyone and dishes and silverware will be used from the PUMC kitchen.
Currently in Sub-Saharan Africa a child dies every 2 minutes from malaria, but malaria is 100% preventable. Keeping mosquitoes away is the action needed. And a net can be provided for only ten dollars. PUMC Mission Team will be emphasizing this great program March 19 and 26. Watch for the display in the lobby outside the sanctuary and come prepared to donate for one or more nets. Let’s save lives!
