John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, is credited with saying:
“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can.
In all the ways you can. In all the places you can.
At all the times you can. To all the people you can.
As long as ever you can.”
It's an apt description of the ministry of Jesus, too. In the book of Acts, the author summarized Jesus’ earthly ministry by saying that he “went about doing good” (10:38). Jesus did good by teaching, healing, feeding, and comforting people. Using Jesus as the example, his followers are called to meet the needs of others, too.
