BOOT Camp

Vacation Bible School Program

June 18, 2017 NewDay Praise Worship - 9:50 a.m.

Vacation Bible School Program Ephesians 6:14-17

It’s war out there, and Boot Camp is a call to arms to join the Lord’s Army. There is no middle ground. You are either a soldier of Christ (Commander-in-Chief) or a POW of the enemy. At Boot Camp this week soldiers learned to battle sin, equipped themselves for daily battle, and prepared to march against the darkness with gospel message of love. Recruits at Vacation Bible School this last week learned to be soldiers of God!

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:14-17 (NRSV)

We are so glad to welcome you to worship this morning! If you are new to PUMC, you are invited to stop by the Welcome Center located in the south lobby. A PUMC member is there to answer your questions, and we have a gift for you, too! In Clayton Hall (north end of building) you’ll find refreshments and a place to chat and meet people. Please make yourself at home.

One Whale of a Tale “Gone fishing” is the sign on the door of many an angler this time of year. The long days, the warm breezes, and the hope of a good catch lure expert fishers and weekend casters alike. And the stories that come home can be real whoppers! The high adventure intensifies with every telling and the fish get longer with every measure of outstretched arms. The fishing is fun, the stories are engaging, and the remembering is almost as good as the doing. The Bible gives us a whopper of a fish story, too. Only in this tale, the fish does the catching. God gives Jonah a specific assignment. But not wanting to obey God’s instruction, Jonah heads the opposite direction... on a boat... and out to sea. Jonah ends up overboard and is caught up in the belly of a whale. The adventure, the stories, and the lessons that ensue make for one whale of a tale! Join us in NewDay Praise Worship starting Sunday, June 25, for “One Whale of a Tale!” Featuring Jonah’s fishing story and God’s work for good through Jonah’s adventures.

Bible Explorers, Sundays, 9:45 a.m. Every Sunday morning children, through grade 5, enjoy music, snacks, games and learning in Bible Explorers. At 9:45 a.m. each Sunday, children gather in room 107 with caring, trained adults to learn about God and grow in their relationship with Jesus. All children are welcome! Parents may register their child(ren) any Sunday morning in room 107 or contact Children’s Ministry Director, Amanda Norton, at 317.839.2319, ext. 229, or at anorton@pumc.org. Classic Worship Schedule Change On Sunday, July 2, you can expect to find one small change in the Sunday morning Classic Worship schedule. Starting on the first Sunday of July, 11:10 Classic Worship will begin at 11:00 a.m. This will mean a shorter wait time for 9:45 Sunday School participants who want to attend the third hour of Classic Worship, and since worship will now conclude prior to 12-noon, it may be a more attractive option for worshipers who have lunch or afternoon plans. Please share this news with friends and family and invite them to join you for worship!

LAST SATURDAY LUNCH You are invited on Saturday, June 24, for a nourishing lunch and some great fellowship. Lunch is provided by members of PUMC. This is a free meal to all the community served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Clayton Hall. Please enter through Door 14.

There will be no Th3rd Sunday Lunch on Father’s Day, today. See you next month on July 16. Have a happy Father’s Day!

July 28 & 29 South parking lot, under the tents. Good fish, good friends, good time!
