If your house were on fire, what items would you make sure to take out of the blaze? A glance at a month’s financial transactions also reveals values and priorities. What we most desire becomes clear when there is a basic need, like a lack of food, shelter, or health care. Jesus’ question to the blind men in today’s scripture seems clear enough. He asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” But it should be obvious—they want sight. So, why ask? What is the most important thing you would want Jesus to do for you today? Will you ask?

What Do You Want Me to Do for You?

Hymn of Response 206
I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light
Time for Prayer Pastoral Prayer The Lord’s Prayer 895 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Giving Offertory * Hymn for Parting 530
As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. There were two blind men sitting by the roadside. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd sternly ordered them to be quiet; but they shouted even more loudly, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!” Jesus stood still and called them, saying, “What do you want me to do for you?” They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they regained their sight and followed him.
Because God gives, we give. Thank you for your generosity. Prelude No. 4 in E minor

Th3rd Sunday Lunch 2017 PUMC Annual Fish Fry The 2017 PUMC Annual Fish Fry is July 28 and 29! There will be sign-ups for fish fry volunteers in the main lobby at PUMC on Sunday mornings July 2, 9, 16, and 23. Please stop at the tables to learn more and find a place to serve! PUMC’s annual fish fry is one of the biggest outreach events of PUMC each year. We welcome thousands of neighbors and friends, serve tons of food, and the profits all support missions both near and far. Sunday School classes, youth groups, the Missions Committee, and other groups directly benefit from volunteering for this event. We are proud of the nearly 200 volunteers each year who participate by baking desserts, frying fish, serving the main line, and so much more. From humble beginnings of welcoming home troops from WWII, this annual event has been embraced by the entire Plainfield area community. Please plan on enjoying the good food and hospitality with us at this year’s fish fry. Todd Sprinkle, First Chair Jane Iles, Second Chair Rich Philip, Third Chair
Everyone is invited to the Th3rd Sunday Lunch, today. Lunch is served after 11:00 Classic Worship (about 12:15 p.m.) in Clayton Hall. If you are able, please bring a dish to share and join others for food, fellowship, and fun! Tea and lemonade will be provided for everyone and dishes and silverware will be used from the PUMC kitchen.
PUMC Collecting School Supplies PUMC is showing God’s BIG Love to area students with school supplies needed for classes this fall. Donations of pencils, crayons, wideruled spiral notebooks, loose leaf notebook paper, solar calculators, glue sticks and backpacks may be left in the Donation Depot across from the church office (near door #2) or at any donation center near entrances at PUMC through the month of July. Thank you for serving the children of Plainfield with your generous donations.
Go Back in Time with Dining Out to Encore Senior Ministry Support Costa Rica Wed., August 2; Mission Leave PUMC at 9:15 a.m. The PUMC adult Costa Rica $10 for both tours; Mission Trip is sponsoring lunch at your own expense several dining out nights to Encore has a special day planned and you are invited! We will travel to Crawfordsville to tour the Henry S. Lane home, have lunch at Creekside Lodge, and then tour Lew Wallace’s home. Henry Lane (1811-1881) was the founder of the Republican Party, Chair of the first Republican National Convention, an Indiana governor, a congressman, a US senator and close friend of Abraham Lincoln. We will also tour the nearby home of Lane’s brother-in-law Lew Wallace. At various times in his life Wallace was a lawyer; Indiana state senator; a major general during the Civil War; vice president of the court-martial that tried the conspirators behind the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln; New Mexico Territory governor; American minister to Turkey from 1881 to 1885; and, the role for which he is best remembered today, author of the classic historical novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1880). Both restored homes will certainly take us back in time! So sorry that neither home is handicap accessible. You may need to be aware that there are 2-4 steps to enter the buildings. The Lane Home also has an upstairs and you may choose whether or not to tour that area. Lunch will be at Creekside Lodge. Stop by the Encore Desk (located in the Main Lobby) today, July 23 or July 30 to learn more and sign up to attend this very special event. This is a great opportunity for fellowship, fun and education! Questions? Call Sue Hylton 317. 839.2946.
