Everyone wants stability. Knowing something of what to expect gives us confidence to face each new day. And we all want to be comfortable. We enjoy - and come to expect - the creature comforts of life. But comfort, stability and routine can lull us into thinking that the things we enjoy are enough; that there's no need for additional effort, innovation, or passion for something new; that the everyday, ordinary lives we lead are sufficient. Even in our spiritual lives we find that it is easy to settle into a comfortable place. Weekly worship, a few dollars in the offering plate, and the occasional promise to pray for a friend becomes our spiritual routine and - while not inspiring or challenging - we decided somewhere along the line that it was enough. Even as we can become indifferent to the world around us, we can become indifferent to the work of the God in our lives. It's ok to be comfortable, but don't get too comfortable. You'll miss out on some exciting things...
