EPHESIANS 4:11-16
September 3, 2017 NewDay Praise Worship - 9:50 a.m.
Doing Life Together Ephesians 4:11-16
Experts and experience tell us that there are some helpful practices that encourage us toward keeping our commitments and accomplishing a significant life change. We see these practices applied in Weight Watchers and Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, neighborhood book clubs, and exercise classes at the local gym. Creating a supportive network of people who gather regularly, provide positive encouragement, and practice loving accountability helps us reach our personal goals, whether those be weight loss, sobriety, education, or fitness. Doing life together to achieve our goals makes the journey more fun and effective.
The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.
Ephesians 4:11-16 (NSRV) With whom are you doing life to achieve your spiritual goals? Do you want your faith to be more than worship on Sunday morning and the occasional prayer before a meal? Do you want to learn how to be a more effective Christian parent? Study the Bible more deeply? Handle the pressures of life with greater grace and patience? Work towards these goals with other followers of Jesus - it will be more fun and more effective.
