Classic Worship Notes This morning is the second Sunday of our fourweek worship series titled “Feelin’ Groovy,” which includes music by the iconic singer-songwriter duo Simon and Garfunkel. Today marks the world premiere of a new arrangement of “I Am a Rock” which centers on isolation and emotional detachment. As Paul Simon reflected some years after writing the song, “It is discomforting, almost painful, to look back over something someone else created and realize that someone else was you. I am not ashamed of where I’ve been and what I’ve thought. It’s just not me anymore. It is perfectly clear to me that the songs I write today will not be mine tomorrow.” Worship at PUMC is always diverse and includes myriad styles, themes and ensembles. Today we welcome the men and women of the Adult Choir, divided into two ensembles, singing repertoire featuring soprano-alto and tenor-bass voicing. The Women’s Trio sings a spiritual arranged by Rollo Dilworth, a gifted composer and conductor on the faculty at Temple University. Next Saturday, the PUMC Concert Series presents a pipe organ concert like you’ve never before experienced. “The Great Organ Spooktacular” is a 75-minute concert perfect for people of all ages (including kids) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The free concert is open to everyone, and will feature costumed musicians performing music from Harry Potter, Phantom of the Opera, The Munsters and more of your Halloween favorites. Mark your calendar, and invite others to join you.
