BIG “C”HURCH (NATURE AND MISSION OF THE CHURCH) ACTS 2:37-47 REV. CHARLIE WILFONG

It’s easy to describe the groups we enjoy, like our family, fantasy football league, or Friday night Bunko group. We have plenty to tell that would explain the activities and purposes of those groups. We could easily explain why that group or organization is fun or engaging. But what about church? How would you describe it to a friend unfamiliar with it? Our worship, activity and study groups, outreach service to others? The first generation of Christians—the earliest church—had nearly none of the things we would probably put on the list describing our church. So what was important to the early church? What is the Big “C” Church, of which we are a part, all about?

Encore Senior Ministries ENCORE ON THE ROAD AGAIN! JULY 19, LEAVE PUMC 10:30 A.M.

Encore will travel to Terre Haute to the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center where we will be able to talk with Eva Kor and visit the displays. Many of you have seen Holocaust survivor Eva Kor, who is now in her 90s, on tv and in various documentaries as she illuminates the world with hope, healing, respect and responsibility. She shares her story of forgiveness for those who were so cruel during this infamous time in history. Eva chose to forgive the Nazis, determined they would no longer have power over her life. Her forgiveness was an act of self-healing, selfliberation and self-empowerment. Cost of this trip is $5 per person. Sign up to attend at the Encore Desk, located in the PUMC main lobby. Sign-ups are June 10, 17, and 24 so that we may give our final count to CANDLES as required. Thanks to those of you who have responded to emails and have already signed up to go on this interesting and meaningful trip. We will stop at a nearby eatery after our visit to the museum where you may find a late lunch or early dinner at your expense. Questions? Call Sue Hylton at 317.839.2946.

CALL FOR COFFEE CANS FOR ANGEL TREE One valuable resource that is needed for PUMC’s Angel Tree Ministry every year is coffee cans. We decorate these cans for use in delivering home-baked Christmas Cookies to the Angel Tree children. Ideally, we would like to have metal coffee cans, but we realize that they are hard to come by. A viable alternative are round 240 and 270 cup plastic coffee cans. (We cannot use square cans or 210 cup plastic coffee cans.) Please drop off clean, empty coffee cans at the Donation Depot near the church office to help with this important part of the Christmas Angel Tree Ministry.
