In a French opera that was published in 1892, a group of children rehearse a Christmas song in July, to which a character responds: “When you sing Christmas in July, you rush the season.” Since that time Christmas in July has been the title of a movie, a postal campaign to encourage mailing Christmas gifts early to military personnel, and an effort by retailers to boost summer sales. But what about Thanksgiving in June? How about a turkey and a family gathering during the summer to celebrate our many blessings? Or better yet, a meal with Jesus to give thanks for his presence and work in our lives. The transformative power of giving thanks should not be limited to one month per year. This year, let’s celebrate Thanksgiving in June!
