FORWARD TOGETHER IN ‘L’OVE (DISCERNING WITH LOVE) ACTS 15:1-21 REV. CHARLIE WILFONG
Some group decisions are difficult. Where would you like to go for dinner? One couple found this so difficult that the driver finally located and drove to, “I Don’t Care Family Restaurant”. You may have an elaborate process for negotiating this in your family. Other things are even more complex and controversial. Do you simply follow the majority vote? Does the person with the most power decide (like the driver at dinner time)? Someone or some group’s preferences will prevail if you decide in one of these ways. For Christian groups there is a better way to make decisions. The first generation of Jesus followers faced a complicated decision. They chose to address it through discernment … with love.

* CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People:
Because we know we are forgiven, we have a humility that creates courage. Because we know we are forgiven, we have a gratitude that creates generosity. Because we know we are forgiven, we have a respect that bestows dignity. Because we know we are forgiven, we have a hope that sees a better way, a new life, a new world. Because we know we are forgiven, we have a passion which knows the urgency of the gospel. Because we know we are forgiven, we have a compassion which creates a willingness to sacrifice everything – even life itself – to live like Jesus. Thanks be to God! Amen!

DRIVE A LITTLE, GIVE A LOT PUMC is pleased to offer transportation to worship and church events (and occassional personal appointments) to those who find it difficult to otherwise participate here at church. Can you help by serving as a driver about one time per month? Your responsibility will be to pick up a local PUMCer using your own vehicle, bring him or her to the designated event (Sunday worship, small group, etc), and return the person home following. Thank you for prayerfully considering this need. If you would be willing to talk with transporation coordinator Jane Iles, please mark your Connection Card this morning, and Jane will be in touch. Thank you for showing God’s BIG Love to our neighbors through your service!

Please SATURDAY stop at the tables to learn more and find a Calendar Legend: A=Worship Annex, B=Bell Room, place to serve! CH=Clayton Hall, EP=East Parking Lot, K=Koinonia Room, PUMC’s annual Fish Fry is one of the biggest outreach events of PUMC each year. We welcome thousands of neighbors and friends, serve tons of food (literally – tons!), and the profits all support missions both near and far. Sunday School classes, youth groups, the PUMC Missions Committee, and other groups directly benefit from volunteering for this event. We are proud of the nearly 200 volunteers each year who participate by baking desserts, frying fish, serving in the main line, and so much more. From humble beginnings of welcoming home troops from WWII, this annual event has been embraced by the entire Plainfield area community. Please plan on enjoying the good food and hospitality with us at this year’s fish fry. Jane Iles, First Chair, fishfry@pumc.org Rich Philip, Second Chair Tom Iles, Third Chair
